Here the phrash "86's" means to throw out, some would even use it to say they have been fired or something like that.
When I used to wait tables the managers would use this to say we were out of something too ... "86 the shirmp"
Anyone know where this comes from?

I was wondering (and still wonder the same thing) about the phrase, it's the year I'm born in so it's a phrase that perked my ears. I found that in my original search.

:innocent: I stopped using the term for years, then out of the blue over the last couple of weeks, I've incorporated it more into my vocabulary. Some people are like :bbeek: huh?

This is what I have always heard: The actual meaning comes from the size of a grave hole. 8' long, 6' deep. When you 86 something you are metaphorically "burying" it, losing it, getting rid of.
What a nice thought huh?
