We have had a problem with mosquitoes and finally got a bug zapper. It came in the mail the other day, but DH has been working late this week and hasn't been able to put it up yet.

We were reading some stuff on it last night and it says to put it between the house and where you want to be. This seems strange to me; I have never seen anyone put a bug zapper in the middle of the yard :bbconfused:

Most of the time I have seen them hung on the house or maybe on a pole near a porch or something. So for those of you that have them, where do you put yours?

DH doesn't want to put it too close to the fence that someone could steal it and we really don't want it to be that noticeable where anyone might be tempted to try and steal it.

Also; how often do you run it? All the time, day and night or just when you are outside?

I've always seen them hanging from the eves of the house (like, under the gutter I guess?). My neighbors have theirs on almost every night. I'd run it whenever you feel like being outside... or if you're going to be in and out of the house a lot.

Yeah I think we will end up hanging it off the porch somehow.

I just use tiki torches. Personally the sound of the bug zapper kinda creeps me out. :bbeek:

lol....

everyone i know, actually has a few of them...FMIL has a man made pond in her backyard(actually there's 3 houses, who's yard backs the pond), and all 3 homes have security lights, with zappers on them...she also has 1 on the security light in her front yard, and 1 hanging on her back porch...NOW, that being said, hers doesn't make the loud noises ;)

i have no idea where she got it, but i know the light is a softer blue glow, not really bright, and it isn't loud at all...like, if it wasn't for her having to empty the containment tray(yikes), she says she'd never even know it did anything.....

Every time I've seen them they've been somewhere attached to the porch. But I'm with Danielle - the zapping noise is unsettling! Especially when you're trying to eat outside or something...lol...:) But it's better than mosquito bites for sure!
