So I found (well the dogs found) a huge mushroom in the yard today. It had to be the size of a baseball at least! It was white and sort of redish purple ... I pulled it up and tossed it over the fence so the dogs wouldn't try to eat it.

Then I noticed a couple of good size rocks; at least I thought they were rocks and wondered how they got in the yard ... I went to pick it up and it was sort of soft and attached to the ground. So I guess this was some sort of weird mushroom too.

These were about the size of a peach and I found 4 of them. They were smooth and sort of yellowish, but didn't have a stem and cap like a normal mushroom. Of course I pulled/dug them up and tossed them over the fence too.

I am surprised by how fast mushrooms seem to grow because I am pretty sure these weren't there yesterday. At least the big white one; I know I would have noticed that.

Anyone ever seen or heard of anything like these?

That is HUGE! I've never heard of anything like that. We get the small soft mushrooms in our yard, which are dark brown in color. Its a good thing you found them before your dogs sampled them!

Yeah I am glad the dogs didn't get to them; I have heard stories of dogs getting sick from eating mushrooms.

sounds like what we used to have on the farm. With Cow Poo all over the ground, mushrooms would sprout up every where. We used to call those Puff Balls, because when you kick them they make a huge cloud of spores.

That's weird, especially for them to grow so fast.

In Russia, it's a common practice to go out in the woods and pick mushrooms for dinner. They know which ones you can eat and which ones not, as a cultural thing. I used to get a few jabs occassionally, being "I hear in America, you buy your mushrooms in grocery stores" as if it were unfathomable to not pull them out of your backyard. ;)

We get these in the winter time here. We left on a Friday, came home on Sunday and no kidding had one that was the size of a Frisbee. I don't think you can do anything to get rid of them except physically. I would keep an eye out so the dogs don't get into them.

I have noticed a lot of weird and also fast growing mushrooms in my yard too. We have been getting a lot of rain (like everyday for the past 2 months) so I assumed that had to do with it.
