Warning! This is a bit long cos i want to get down what i remember
My Wedding Day.
Simon’s alarm went off at the indecent hour of 4.45am. He got up and went for a shower, while I lay abed for another 15 minutes; then I got up too. We got showered, dressed, he shaved and cut his head leaving a gash about an inch long. By 540am we were in the car and on our way to Gabbie ( BM) and Arno (GM)’s house.
Got there just before 6 am, Simon headed up stair with his stuff ( props for photos, getting ready bag etc) and I went into the downstairs rumpus to pack up the dress and the BM dresses for the car. Me, Gabbie and Rachael ( our videographer) piled into the car and we left about 628am, 13 minutes late.
Gabbie had packed breakfast rolls for us and thermos’ of tea to be consumed on the road, which we did about 7 am. The drive to Springbrook Mountain Manor normally takes me 2.5hours, but we got a very good run and were there in about 1hr50mins, so we had a look up the road a bit at the scenery etc.
We actually went in about 830am, ( 15 mins early) and were able to go up to the Bridal spa to start the make me pretty process. Cos we were so early, we had a nice cup of tea before we got started. We had only been supplied with ½ a roll of toilet paper ( for up to 7 people!) so we figured we’d go get some later. My Bm had to demand it, they didn’t want to give it to us! The make up people did arrive, but I am glad we had the extra make up person cos I don’t know if we would have been ready otherwise.

I got my hair started first, while Gabbie got her make up started. My hair was OK. Not great unfortunately, but OK. After she finished the first time, the veil was in the wrong place and the crown moved inches each way cos it wasn’t secured enough. Then Mum got her make up, Gab got her hair ( lovely!), Danielle got make up and hair, and mum got hair. Then they tried to fix mine. They fixed the veil, but I was never fully happy with the hair do – it was a lot messier than I actually wanted, but we had run out of time so couldn’t start again. As a side note, Saturday I found out all the hair/make up people’s phones are disconnected so we are lucky they even turned up!!
The photographer got there about an hour early, he may have been taking pictures but I wont know till we see him next. At 1220pm ( 10 mins late), we started my pics in the spa. They should be quite nice. I started in my underwear and progressed to fully dressed. At one point my underwear was falling down so my sister got under my dress to fix it. The FGs were gorgeous and played really nice.
Then the boys were ready and we had a mini processional out to them so Simon got to see me like that. Then we had the bridal party photos, it was very cold and took way too long. In the end we finished about 40 minutes late and had no time for the boys getting ready shots ( no one got any of these).Mean while my underwear had fallen down again and was sitting just under my butt cheeks – very odd feeling.
We put our rings on for the photos, Simon put his on the wrong finger! I put it on the right one. The bridal party had lots of fun shots, holding each other etc. We ran out of time for the ones I specifically asked for, but by then I was so cold and over it I didn’t care. So we went back up to the spa, had 20 mins to get undressed, fix underwear and make up and get back down to the car to go to the ceremony. My hair had basically fallen out, the crown was falling sideways off my head, Gab fixed it but I wasn’t happy!

Because we were so far behind, the boys had no chance to get the programs for handing out during the ceremony, so no one knew what they should be saying.
Getting to the car, my to-keep garter fell off before I even got to the car. Since the car was a normal car, I had to slide in head first and then couldn’t turn around so I was facing backwards the entire time. I ungracefully exited the car and we had couple more photos, until the FGS took off down the isle and we had to follow. I almost cried but then felt my toss garter falling down my leg, further and further. About 5 steps to the groom it came completely off and I left it on the isle. ( BIL got it for me before too many people saw! ) I think this lightened the mood so I didn’t cry. By now my underwear was once again falling down. We took our positions and the ceremony started. Mum nearly made me cry but I held it together. My feet were sore so I took off one shoe under my dress ( no one noticed) I couldn’t get the other off without being really obvious about it so I stood on one foot for a while and eventually – when I thought we would be moving soon, I put it back on.
When asked if I took FH, I responded “ gee let me think….I do” which got a few giggles. Simon said “Shazam” when he placed the ring on my finger which got a few more. The Best man was to pass around the rings in a bag for blessings. He tried to pass them around singly and I nearly died! We were over water so if they dropped that was it – no getting them back! A few hushed, urgent whispers and he kept them in the bag. The celebrant was great, he led the guests since they had no booklets, in the audience response parts. Simon shook for most of the ceremony, part cold, part nerves. I was really calm and happy. At one point we were making faces at each other. And he dipped me when we kissed.
So then more photos, until even I was frozen and over it all. By then the guests were up at the manor and having orderves. We had to go back up to have posed cake and dance photos, and by then I was sooooo over it all. We missed doing a few shots I had really wanted, but I was tired and hungry so didn’t care at that point. We didn’t get an entrance to the reception, we were just there and people were congratulating us etc. I had 4 orderves, 3 cold 1 hot. Simon was saved a hot one by a friend but he was too busy talking to get any others.

So about 6ish we sat down to entrees of Caesar salad and spring rolls, followed by baked chicken or sirloin steak. At first the DJ got forgotten food wise – I had paid for a full meal for him but our groomsman Arno sorted it out. The bridal party loved their gifts, Arno was giving out his fake business cards ( Bestman for Hire).
Then speeches, Mum welcomed Simon, not crying! Bestman gave his, Bridesmaid gave hers, then Simon gave his. I hadn’t checked his speech, but he forgot to thank my sister and his own mum. So 5 mins later he stood up again and gave an impromptu speech filling in those gaps.
By then I was too full for desert, I had had one diet coke and just drank water for the rest of the evening – I was quite dehydrated. And my underwear was still falling down! I decided to take the top layer off ( I had 3) and stashed it in a little gift box that I took with me when we finished for the night.
After desert we cut the cake, had our first dance and then everyone else was dancing as well. About 20 mins later, we did the mother daughter dance, which everyone thought was fantastic as it merged from Waltz to The Time warp. Then we tossed the bouquet and Kirralee caught it – she just got engaged. The bouquet had nearly hit Gab in the head on the way. The guys were reluctant to do the garter toss for some reason, but they did it and Twinkle ( one of few single guys there) caught it. Then there was much dancing and some of us sat around a fire in the bar and just gasbagged for a while. We realised late that the ceremony booklets hadn’t been given out cos the photos took so long the boys couldn’t go get them. We decided to give them out as souvenirs that night and the next morning.
In the end I didn’t drink any alcohol at all, mostly water. Simon got tired so we decided to go up to our Bridal Suite. Gab took me up and helped me out of my dress and then I waited for my groom. He liked my wedding night lingerie – steel boned corset but we decided to open our gifts to each other and have showers first. He bought me a lovely shoe ring holder – I quite love it and I told him it has 7 spaces so he has to buy me 7 more rings. J I made him a memory book including my hopes for the future which he seemed to like a lot. In the end it was about 1 am when we decided to go to sleep and we set our alarms for 8 am.
By 8 we were both up, and by 850 we had checked out and started packing the car. We stopped at 9 am for breakfast and by 1030 we were on our way home.
Over all, the only things I would change, would be choosing a different hair and make up company, and starting photos earlier so we could get some we missed. But I think we were blessed with perfect weather, and a hassle free, next to no problem kind of day.
pictures are coming!

Chocawhit: We had a series of RPG photos for the professional photographer, and these were a couple we happened to capture ourselves. We set up a diarama - diagram of the area and figurines ( bridal party correct to attire) and bad guys ( were wolves, vampires, ghosts etc) and just had us girls roll dice to simulate playing. We also had pics of the boys reading RPG books on the front porch. In reality we barely had time to set this up, we ran about an hour over which screwed up our time line alittle.
Thanks guys for the hair comments, as a side note, the company is now completely incontactable - phone and emails and website disconnected - i am so lucky they even turned up!
