View Full Version : Baby Decor thoughts?

This is for those of you planning to TTC soon, or are already carrying. What are your plans for the baby's room?

Matt and I have decided not to find out whether we're having a boy or girl. I have looked through the JCP catalog and saw two sets I adored. I really like the mint green and brown theme and throwing in pink or blue later on. I think the 3 colors (pink, brown, green/blue, brown, green) go great together anyway. Either way we'll probably end up doing trucks or ranch/horse decor anyway, but I'm curious what ya'll have in mind!

Here's my thoughts - mind you, my walls are already a gray/tan and dark brown, and I'm not going with the patterns - just the color combos. Patterns are TBD:

I am hoping for a boy so I haven't really thought about what I want to do for a girl. If I have a boy I want to paint a mural of the green monster and do a Red Sox theme. :)

That is a SUPER CUTE idea! :) I'm sure my FH would love that idea as he's a big Red Sox fan too!

With my son, we went with a neutral theme figuring we'd be able to reuse the bedding with the next baby. I'll have to look for a pic later, but it's a little green jungle/safarii theme. Then we added some fire truck things as he got older (DH is a firefighter and Ryan loves to play on the trucks now.)

With this second pregnancy, we aren't sure if we are finding out what we are having yet. Have till the begining of September to make that decision. I think if it's another boy we will keep the same bedding. Now that I've had a son in the room, it feels more boyish. But if it's a girl I kinda want to go with a new set. Something a little less neutral and a little more girlish although not too pink and frilly.

I have been thinking about this lately. I want to do an ocean theme. It can go either way, if its a girl just have things like mermaids, and girly colors, if its a boy then more blues and fish and surf boards and such. This is just a thought for now, i still need to run the idea by DH.

I picked out a jungle/safari theme for my LO's room.

I was really digging those swirly, contemporary designs, too! Especially if we were having a girl. I really like the pink, green, and white combo!

I am going with something very neutral - green and yellow. I don't know that I'll even do an actual theme - just solids and small gingham print for the bedding, lamp, changing table, etc.

I already have a couple of the wall decorations I want to use. One is a small white quilt with green trim/accents and a bunch of different bunnies on it that my grandmother made while she was pregnant with my mom. The other is a small framed cross stitch picture that my mom made when she was pregnant with me that says "please bless this baby with mountains of love, talents a-plenty, and free skies above".

I guess to continue the theme, I'm going to have to make something too! I'm trying to learn to knit/crochet so maybe I can make a pillow or blanket or something (but I've got a while too!)

oo! crochet is easy-peasy! i actually crocheted a baby blanket for a friend back in college soooo prolly about 5 or 6 years ago and i was just sent a pic a few weeks back w/the kid still using the blanket. it really touched my heart

i think i'll def. try to crochet my baby something should I have time...

i want to do a theme of some sort just not sure WHAT that is right now tho... i like that jungle theme... i've got plenty of time tho FH n I aren't even trying yet...

I like em all, to be honest! I guess it depends on your and fh's tastes.

I've had 2 ideas for a long time..

1 - I wanted to do a mural on the wall, wrapping all the way around the room. I wanted it to be daytime on one wall (with green grass, flowers, sun), and then slowly fading to nighttime on the other wall (deep sky, stars and moon).

2 - I saw a picture where the decor was purple and white with butterflies as the theme. They had these 3D butterflies attached all over the walls - it was really cute!

OMG I LOVE IT!!! I've never seen a meadow theme! It's gorgeous! If you feel it's a bit too boyish for a girl, then add a few pink flowers to the decor, or paint the border on the wall pink and you'll be set :) I think it's perfect!!!!

Oh my gosh there are so many options out there! I have looked a bit, but I don't want to get my heart set on something and then have to change it all up if we don't have that particular sex. I want organic bedding and there just aren't a ton of options out there so we will probably go with a really simple sheet set. We aren't going to be using bumpers so there that cuteness goes as well!

I'm thinking a simple bird theme with a tree decal on the wall since we can't do any painting would be cute. A garden theme with birds and bunnies also seems like a cute idea. I absolutely love Beatrix Potter and the illustrations in her books. Peter Rabbit is a personal favorite and just might inspire me for a nursery!

I figure that a few details splashed across the room like a lamp, curtains, wall hangings, pictures, and a mobile will make it cute without being overwhelming for me. I'm thinking of piecing together different aspects rather than getting a whole set. I enjoy doing things like that.

I would like to do some sort of mural on the wall like this, but with colors that match the bedding better and forest animals instead of the jungle animals. DH's mom is an art teacher so we are hoping she can paint the animals for us. I stole this pic from a friend. Her brother just had a baby and this is from their nursery.

You know, we are totally indecisive as far as themes go, even though we do have a few favorites - we're eventually going to have to decide on one:boggle:. We had agreed on Noah's Ark 2 years ago, but I'm not sure that's the route I want to take. There are *so* many cute ones out there... who knows! However, Noah's Ark is safe for either boy or girl....

So in short, I guess my answer would be no

DH doesn't care what I spend but the more I think about it, I really don't want to spend that much money ($150-$170) on baby bedding.

I was looking into a crib set like that, Justina, but I was worried about how long it would be! It would really depend on your nursery and I don't know where we're going to be in 6 months when our lease is up! I loved the idea of having it all connected though! Instead, we decided to go with a set that is separate so that we could arrange it however we need once we have the right room!

The reviews on Walmart.com have exact dimensions... And I agree, it could get tough finding a spot for it, but the way our room is built we only have so many options. I think the combo of everything in one is going to be a huge help for us in our limited space.

OMG Danielle! That Cinderella bed is so freaking cute I can't stand it! If I was having a girl, I'd have to find a way to have that bed on the cheap!

Isn't that adorable? I did a quick search for that crib on google and it came up with a $3700 price tag. :boggle:

I still have no idea what we are going to do. I should do gender neutral but if we find out we are having a girl, I will so want to do a really girly theme. :yesnod:

We all complain when our men don't have opinions about things...but now that Chad has opinions about the nursery, I won't complain so much next time! LOL Kidding, kinda! :lafhard: Our room is not turning out as girly as I wanted it to, but I do love that he is wanting to pick out so many things.

I love that combo crib, Justina!!

We have that Cinderella crib here in Sac and it rings in at $600. My cousin was going to get it for her daughter but she couldn't justify spending that much on a toddler bed!

I think its sweet that Chad is getting involved in decorating the nursery! I'm sure Paisley's room will look adorable, even if it isn't as girly as you hoped!

Haha! I have a tendency towards explosions of sparkly pink stuff. Chad is reigning me in and picking more cutesy, less princessy things, which I'm sure will be much better in the end! I just spent the last couple of hours *trying* to paint this potted plant w/ a bunny cut-out that we got from Hobby Lobby today. I want to put something on her door that says "Paisley's Garden". Um, we'll see if this turns out well enough for me to even use!

Such great ideas from everyone.

I've seen some really nice sets on ebay too that aren't super expensive at all. I think if its a reputable seller it should be fine as I some of the designs are from Target, etc.

Danielle -savepaws - I know I've seen your initial forest animals bedding on there before but I can't find it now...but then again there's 47 pages of baby bedding and I only went through 10.

I did find this forest animal bedding and it has the owls

I just have to say that doing a few searches I cannot believe how hard it is to find gender neutral bedding for a baby.

Thanks Ashley, I've seen the set on Ebay also but I haven't seen it on there for awhile. The only set I can find is a huge set with all the accessories and its like over $200...way over our price range. But I have been keeping my eyes open for the smaller set to come back on.
