Hello everyone!
I am new here, but wanted to start my journal right away since I'm at the 4 1/2 month mark :ura1: . The time sure is flying by.

Dan and I got engaged on October 7, 2005 and it seemed like we had all the time in the world before the wedding actually rolled around. Now I don't know where all that time went?

I will definitly post more about us, our engagement, and our wedding plans, but just wanted to get a quick start in :)

Feel free to comment on anything you see in my journal. I love to hear what others think and look forward to getting to know you all :bblol:

Dan and I met in the summer of 1999. It was a pure chance of luck that we met and we often say that if our timing had been off my even 5 minutes we wouldn't be here today.

I was at the end of a relationship with my HS sweetheart of 6 1/2 years, but knew that although we were engaged it wasn't going anywhere and was ready to move on. One night I was sitting at my computer looking for a summer job (since I'm a teacher and had some free time to make some extra cash) and I received a message. Usually I ignored these messages because I'd been having some real problems with people writing some disgustingly profane things and some of those people had been recent graduates from the school I taught at. For whatever reason I didn't ignore his message. Maybe I was bored? We talked for about 5 minutes and he hadn't gotten vulgar yet, so we kept talking. Next thing I knew an hour had gone by. I agreed to chat with him again the next day or whenever and soon a friendship started. It took some time, but we soon decided to meet about 2 weeks later and were very quickly inseperable. We however were not more than friends, or at least that's what we kept telling ourselves.

We met officially on July 6, 1999 so that is our anniversary date eventhough we weren't dating then. Actually I don't know when we started dating because we were inseperable after that day! Dan and I met in the mall. A nice public place where I could run screaming for help if he turned into a psycho, lol. Yes, I did tell him this when we met. We had a great time and at the end of the afternoon went our separate ways with the intentions of getting together the next day as well.

I should mention at this point that when I met Dan he was already planning to move to FL toward the end of August. That was one of the reasons for us just being friends. Why get involved with someone who was just going to leave?

It didn't take long though for us to realize that what we thought was going to be a nice way to kill the summer was soon turning into something so much more. I very quickly broke off my engagement to my HS sweetheart and Dan and I became exclusive. This all happened within a matter of a week or so because we didn't have much time. We also went on our first official date around then and it turns out we are getting married at the exact same place. We fell in love quickly and were miserable when he moved. Yes, he still moved to FL and has been here ever since. Two years later I joined him here so that we could find out if we were truly meant to be together or whether we were just a summer fling that got stretched out due to stubbornness in an LDR. We've been together for 7 years now so I guess you can say, we were definitely more than a summer fling.

Before Dan left for FL we decided to run to Sears and sit for some pictures since neither of us had a camera during those six wonderful weeks. Everyone thought these were engagements pics, lol. (Just to mention, we were both 23 in this picture.)

Can anyone help me figure out why I can't post pics? I get a message saying I can't until I become a trusted member. When does that happen??? I've got tons of pictures I want to add.

You can't do it until you become a senior member or a 100 posts. (I can't remember which!!;)) This is in place because we were getting a lot of people spamming and posting links to porn and even some posting porn. It's jsut so we can keep that to a minimum. You'll just have to keep posting and letting us get to know you. Before you know it, you'll be able to post pics!! :)

Thank you! I appreciate the help and will now work hard to get those posts in :)

So I guess that means everyone will have to sit through a lot of written information before I can get to the good stuff. Don't worry, the pictures will be waiting for when I am able to post them.

Hi Jessica!

Beth actually told me about this place this morning. I don't know if she's starting a journal, but I'm at least hoping she'll pop in and write once in a while :)

Yep, I totally understand the picture thing too and just can't wait until I can post pictures.

(Our first Valentine's Day as an Engaged Couple)

Thought I'd tell you all a little bit about Dan and I, so you know who you're reading about :)

We currently live in FL with our 4 yr old dog Nanuk who is a fluffy, low percentage wolf-hybrid (5% maybe). I am a HS English teacher (though don't pay attention to the rules when I'm "off duty" ;) ) and Dan is a county deputy. We both grew up in NJ about 25 minutes apart from eachother and also went to school in PA (about an hour apart).

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, so there was no doubt of me becoming one. I've been teaching since I graduated in 1998 and can't think of anything else I'd rather do. Unless of course my jewelry business takes off and I can make some real money doing that. Then I'd quit teaching in a heartbeat :bbmrgreen: . As for my jewelry. I recently started up a small online store to sell what I make because I got so frustrated when looking for jewelry for the wedding. I love making things and love even more the ability to share those things with other people.

Dan had chosen law enforcement as his backup career. His first choice was to be a pro football player and he was so close to that goal. He had signed a preliminary contract with the Dallas Cowboys, but then as luck would have it, he severely injured his ankle at the end of his senior year season. He was told that they wouldn't take him now because of the damage. There are no regrets for him though because he knows that although the time spent as a pro would've been fun, that he is better off now. Plus, we never would've met if he'd gotten that contract.

Currently, Dan is trying to get a new job in PA so we can get back to our home. We have been away from the NJ/PA area for too long and need to get back. It's especially important now that we're getting married and planning to have children within a couple years. Both of us feel that family is the best support system new parents can have, so we want to be close to ours instead of 1500 miles south.

Welcome Becki! We are all so glad to have all you new girls around here! I can't wait until you are a senior member (and all the others too) so we can see all your pics. My wedding is on December 30, so I'm about a month behind you so we'll be on the same track almost. Can't wait to hear more!

I guess I should move on to how Dan proposed now :) Boy, I have to remember to go back and add pics once I can because there's just a lot of words here and I know pictures will spice things up!

I moved to FL in 2001 expecting a proposal. It didn't happen. Years went by and Dan would only say "In due time" or "Someday". Admitedly we had out problems and those kept us from getting to the point where a proposal would truly be appropriate. Something changed though in 2005. I don't know if we just managed to work through our problems or if things just worked themselves out or maybe we just got so used to the problems that they aren't there anymore, lol. Whatever it was, we started to get to that point where marriage was more viable. We just became good together. I can't explain it. It was a feeling we hadn't had since that first summer together and it was wonderful.

As the summer of 2005 turned to fall we started talking about getting married. Dan would allow me to wander into jewelry stores to look quickly at rings. He even took me to a store one afternoon because he had stopped in there on his own the day before! At the end of September Dan flew to NJ to attend his college roommates surprise 30th. I couldn't go since I'd already asked for two days off the following weekend to go to Disney for Dan's 30th. When he got back from NJ, he was almost like a new person. He took me to look at rings that very night and I just figured it was more of what we'd been doing for months. Then that Thursday night rolled around and my world changed :bbmrgreen:

We were out walking the dog when Dan asked me what time I could get out of work. I told him and he asked if I could sneak out a little early because he wanted to stop to pick up my ring on the way to Disney! It was so unexpected that I stopped dead in my tracks and turned to him. I grabbed him by the shoulders, looked him in the eye and asked him if he realized what he'd just said and whether he also realized that he couldn't take it back, lol. Then I started jumping up and down in the middle of the street. I was so excited.

That night I couldn't sleep. Not only did I have our trip to Disney to look forward to, but I also had ring shopping to look forward to! It was just too much and I felt like the next day was my own personal Christmas.

Friday we went to the store, picked out my ring together and then went to Disney where we proceeded to have the best time ever. There is no better way to celebrate an engagement than to spend 4 days away from your normal life before having to tell everyone and start planning. It was the best!

On Monday, Dan's 30th birthday, we were in the Magic Kingdom and just about to walk past Cinderella's Castle when Dan started grabbing at my hand. My fingers were too swollen from the heat and humidity that the ring wouldn't slip off. He had to ask me for it. I gave it to him a little confused and then he got down on his one knee in front of the castle and officially asked me to marry him. I just started laughing since we were already engaged. If anyone saw us, which I don't even know, they probably wonder why I'm laughing at the poor guy when he asks me to marry him.

That's our engagement story and eventually there will be a pic of us at Disney here :)

That si a really sweet proposal story and it is wonderful that through all of your problems you worked it out and finally made it to marriage!!!

07-09-2006, 07:18 PM
I think we always knew we'd get through the problems, but we just were getting frustrated and let them get in the way. Now things couldn't be better and Dan's said many times that he doesn't know why he waited so long because he's never been happier.

I did a lot of searching for the perfect location. Dan idealy wanted to have the wedding directly in between our parents who live an hour and a half apart. That just wasn't feasible since that area was astronomical to hold a wedding. That's when I decided to branch out and look at other areas at well. No exageration that I contacted about 40 locations and settled on 20 that we needed to see. It became clear very soon though that there was only one place to have the wedding.

Dan and I went on our first official date to Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, PA. We had such a great time that when I found out that they were a huge wedding place too, we had to have it there! My mother and I looked at the place when I came home for Thanksgiving and then Dan and I went back when we were up over Christmas. We booked it on New Year's Eve - my absolute deadline for booking a location. Talk about cutting it close.

I have some pictures to post of the site, but thought I'd let you all look at it yourself so here's the website http://www.stroudsmoor.com/index.asp. It's an amazing place.

Of course, nothing with weddings is ever easy and neither is this whole BM/FG thing.

Originally I had a MOH and 2 BM. Then one of my BMs got pregnant and was due 3 weeks after the wedding so she could no longer make the trip from FL to PA for the wedding. I was heartbroken, but managed to get over it. Not having her in the wedding did mean some major changes though since her daughter is also the FG and her husband is an Usher. Then sadly, last month she had a miscarriage. Aside from the obvious tragedy, I figured this meant she was back in the wedding. About a week ago she went with me to meet the florist and planner at our location. When the florist asked me how many BM I had, I turned to the one who was with me and just gave her a look that said "Are you back in?" She quickly responded that she wasn't sure. Turns out that she and her husband are going to try right away to get pregnant. They will start fertility drugs Aug. 1. Eventhough she wouldn't be that far along when the wedding happens, she is worried about traveling now due to any complications that might come up. That means that I don't really know if I have 2 BM or 3. Plus I don't know if I have a FG. I'm not replacing them with anyone at this point. If I didn't want them in the wedding to begin with, why put them in it now?

That is a tough situation Becki. First of all, I love those dresses! They are beautiful!

My MOH is pregnant. She will be within 6 weeks of delivering at my wedding. We just got her sized for a dress this weekend. She is going to have to wear a maternity dress of course. Luckily she lives close so traveling is not an issue with her.

I'm sorry to hear that Beth is having wedding issues again...I hope she can figure it out and join us here at least to chat with us, even if she doesn't have a journal :( I miss our group!

Sigh, now to go clean off my car...but at least I got paid today and got to go dress shopping! :)

Beckiii

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that my MOH is pregnant too! She's actually due 3 weeks before the wedding and live in VA so has to travel too. Even at 5 1/2 months though, she's tiny. She went in June to get sized for her dress so that she could still fit in one, but unless you really look at her you don't know she's pregnant! I just saw her at my shower and people couldn't believe how far along she is.

I'm really hoping that the one can still make it. I'm willing to hold off and then scramble for any brown maternity BM dress I can find if she gets pregnant and can make the trip. I'm almost willing to do the same even if she doesn't get pregnant. I just want her there :)

Sigh, now to go clean off my car...but at least I got paid today and got to go dress shopping! :)

Beth is going to join as a vendor instead of a bride. I don't know whether that means she can still chat with us, but at least she'll be here :bbmrgreen:

Another one of my BM is pregnant right now, but she is due on Aug 6. She tried on her dress back in the winter when she was not showing yet. I am going to have all the girl's dress sizes submitted hopefully in the next two weeks so she needed to do it early.

Pretty sure she can still chat with us...or at least read the forum, and reply elsewhere or something, lol.

Yay getting some of the UW girls back together! Have you heard what Jenn (of Swedish fame) wants to do?

I hope Dot will be able to come to the wedding. I know there will be a possibility that my MOH and FSIl could be pregnant for our wedding but I am sort of hoping they won't be!! I just don't want to deal with the pain of dress sizes. LOL

Completely understood. I'm ordering dresses in about 2 weeks also. I waited as long as I could to accomodate these pregnant women ;) I made my other BM swear off sex until my wedding so I knew she wouldn't get pregnant, ha! She thought it was funny, but her bf didn't :bblol:

Jessica - I haven't heard from Jennifer in a couple days. I think she wanted to start up at Live Journal or something like that, but I wanted the bridal interaction instead of just a place to store my thoughts so didn't.

Admitedly, at least all this pregnancy stuff has put the wedding in perspective. Makes me see what's really important to me and how easy it is to forget that people have lives that aren't involved in my wedding.

Very true Becki! I know if they were to get pregnant, I would be so excited for them especially my MOH because I don't think she will have an easy time of getting pregnant. But, I do want the focus on us for a little bit!! :bbmrgreen:

Had I mentioned that Melissa (MOH) is bringing her mother to the wedding to watch the new baby? I'm adding her to the guest list since I think it's the least we can do for Melissa and her husband since the baby will be about 3 weeks old.

Deidre98
07-10-2006, 11:44 PM
That is really nice, of both you and her mother. It makes sense though. I don't know many mom's that will leave their baby at 3 weeks old!!

Melissa is so funny. When my mom asked her whether she'd be frazzled at the wedding because of the new baby, Melissa said "Nope, that's what Mom is for", lol. My mom got the biggest kick out of that :)

I was pretty upset when my MOH told me she was pregnant. At first I felt like she was always ahead of me. I am a little older than her and she got married first, is having a baby first, got out of college first (granted she went for an Associates and I will be completing my Bachelors soon), bought a house first, drove a new car first, and the list goes on. Then I just got over it. I didn't want her to put her life on hold because of my wedding and I am having a much nicer wedding than I would have had if I would have gotten married when she did. (She had to go off to Vegas and get married with only her parents basically.) I am also going to have a more advanced degree than she is. My FH has a more advanced degree than her husband has. We have not bought a house yet, but we will soon enough. I just came to realize there is a right time and place for everything in our lives. This is the right time for her, but it would be a horrible time for me to have a baby. It does make the dress stuff hard though, but we have gotten through it!

That's very much like me and my MOH, except I've always been happy for her since she deserves the best of everything. She's a couple months younger than me and has been married just over 5 years now. I was dating Dan well before she met Mario and yet here she is having her first child. At least I know there's a possibility of our children growing up together which I really think is great.

The reason I was not happy at first had to do with jealousy yes, but also she had told me she was not going to try to get pregnant until the Fall. Even if she got pregnant then I knew she wouldn't be very big at the wedding. It just surprised me when she got pregnant now. I was not mad, just surprised. Now I am happy and even planning to do the baby shower!

Yeah, the day kind of drags when there is no work to do and all of the fun sites that you would rather be on are blocked. Since my desk is out in the middle of everything, I can't even read a book since all of the managers would see it. At least when I am on the computer, I can pretend I am working.

Beckiii
07-11-2006, 12:51 AM
Maybe you can find a site to read a book online, lol. I've done that at work a few times when it's been slow. Of course that was back when I worked in an office and could get away with it.

These are the things English teachers know. I've had enough kids tell me they forgot their books at school so couldn't read. I've told them to look for a website and a lot of times they find one. Boy do they hate me after that :drv: ( I don't know what this smiley has to do with my post, but I'm missing all the great ones we had and this was just something different.)

Here is my engagement ring. It has a center princess cut surrounded by small diamonds and then more diamonds on the band. I absolutely love it! It was like nothing I'd seen before and that's one thing I didn't want - to look over at someone else's hand and see my ring! I wanted classic, yet unique. I think I got it.

Dan's ring. A Tungsten 9mm band. Yes, I did manage to get him to put it on to let me take a picture, hehe. He wanted something that wouldn't get damaged at work. He doesn't wear ANY jewelry (not even a watch) because there's too much risk that something will happen to it. The Tungsten is insured for life and is supposed to be indestructible. We'll see, lol.

I have to share this picture. I wanted to show the absolute size of Dan's finger, so got a quarter out of our change jar. I figured I'd put it next to the ring and then I realized that the quarter would fit INSIDE the ring. I had to get a picture of that!

My mother reminded me recently that we still had my great-aunt's crystal necklace. I was originally planning to make my own jewelry, but then she came out with this. I love it! Unfortunately, it is WAY too much with the tiara and now the crystals on the veil, so I will be converting it (very simply) into a bracelet and will then make earrings and a simple necklace to match. I haven't started them yet, but when I get them done there will be pictures.

I too have a preganant MOH (FSIL)! She and my sister are both MOH's and she took her dress to the seamstress last week...it is the same as the other dresses but 2 times larger than what she needs in order to have room to alter it...the seamstress smiled and reassured her (she was so nervous) and me both that it would be FINE!

This past Thursday my friend Lauren came to my mother's house and did my hair and makeup. She works for Two Faced cosmetics (don't worry, I'd never heard of them either, lol) so actually does this for a living. When we first got engaged she offered to do my hair and makeup free of charge. I hadn't even met her then. We'd only talked once on the phone since she's the BMan's gf.

Anyway. This is basically what the back of my hair will look like. This was just a trial, so of course it will be neater on my wedding day.

http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6d927b3127cce8ae19f1d8e4500000016102AaNHDZs0asd

This is me in the cheap veil we got from Michael's just to use as a trial veil.
The more I look at these pictures, the more I don't like them. I can't stand seeing my hair up like that, but don't know what to do about it. The front pieces were supposed to be curled, but Lauren couldn't get the curl to stay in them at all and I'm worried that will happen at the wedding. I also NEVER wear my hair up or back and think my face looks huge and that I just am not meant to wear my hair up. I have more of the makeup, but just don't even want to look at them.

That's really great to know. I think we're ordering the dress one size bigger right now. So far, she's only gotten one size bigger and as I said, is 5 1/2 (almost 6 months now) pregnant, so there isn't much time to go. I might ask her about getting it 2 sizes bigger though now that you mention it :bbconfused:

I also tend to plan in spurts because I can only go to the location, visit the bridal shop, and do hair/makeup when I'm in NJ. I was just commenting not too long ago that I hadn't done any real wedding planning in about a month, but now that I've been in NJ for 2 weeks I've gotten things done again. Once I get back to FL, things will slow down.

I've been thinking of moving my journal to my website as a blog and I just might do it now. Gr!

What's the deal with UW?

I have a new job, now, not so able to hang out all day, but I'll probably get a new journal up soon.

Cheers!

Becki, I cam't think of anything you have forgotten but if I remember, i will let you know.

Beth!! I am so glad you are here with us even if you aren't starting a journal just yet. I am keeping my fingers crossed though that everything works out for the best and I am sure it will. I peeped in on your site today and it looks so good.

Brooke, yay!! Another UW buddy!! WOO HOO!!!

Hi Becki and everybody else! :)
I know I knew you made jewelry, but I dont think I've ever actually seen your site? If your allowed to post a link (not really sure on the rules here) can you do that for me? :)
And WHY are you calling pictures- pictures? I could've sworn the new name for them was wedding porn! WTH?!

Beckiii
07-11-2006, 08:19 PM
Sorry, didn't want to get yelled at for bringing porn to this site, lol. But now that you're all here to back me up, you know it'll be wedding porn ;)

Brooke, I don't think you can post links until you get over the 30 posts requirement to go from a junior member to a regular member. You'll get there though :)

and a another hijack ...

Sarah what is it you do, sorry I forgot. anyways on my consulting site I have a list of other sites of interest and I can add you to it if you want.

PM me your info, I've got more editing to do to my site anyways.

I'm not sure, honestly. You meantioned your jewelery site and I thought I would check it out. Do you do anything that would be similar to like a mother's ring, except maybe a necklace? My MOH is having a baby girl (her first baby) in September, so something like that has been rolling around in my mind. Do you have your website up yet or is it something thats in the works?

Okay, I'm done asking questions now. :)

ttac-
I do some graphic design, if thats what you were asking me... (sorry, my mind has been hopping all over the place today!) I considered signing up as a vendor myself... the only iffy thing is that so far what I've been doing is preparing the files and then whoever they are for actually deals with the printing aspect. I'm not sure how well that would go over in the "real world" or the "business world" or... whatever. :) I will PM you my site if you wanted to check it out.

Beckiii

I'm a bride on the boards that happened to get my site on their list. I figure as long as I don't sell my services on posts I'm really doing nothing wrong.

consultants can get married to ya know, lol.
I'm not going to be on the vendors board section here though, they have special access to some vendor section. for now I want to be a bride too ;)

Beckiii
07-11-2006, 09:07 PM
I'm glad you're a bride here too Beth. I wouldn't want to see you as just a vendor. You've got so many great ideas to share with us all :)

Ok, so today I checked the mail at my mom's and there were two things from Dan. The first was my car payment bill and some other bills :( The second was a belated anniversary card. I thought he had forgotten (or at least forgotten to send a card) but he didn't. He wrote me a note inside that read "Happy (late) last anniversary as a dating couple. Next year's will be more memorable since you'll be my wife." Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Deidre98
07-11-2006, 09:10 PM
I second that sentiment (or third?? I don't know!!) I am so glad to see you on the bride side Beth. Like Becki said, you have too much good advice to share to only be a vendor.

I don't know who runs this site (the format I mean), but I'm finding a lot of the wedding sites look like this. I did a lot of research when UW went down to try to find one I liked. The first thing I noticed was how similar some really are.

Once I get back to FL and get a vacation from my supposed vacation that I'm on now, I'll have a lot more time ;) I've been visiting my mother in NJ since June 28 and so far we've had one day without nonstop activity. While I've been here we have met with the location about flowers, etc; prepared for and had my first bridal shower; picked out my veil; done hair and makeup trials, thrown a concert at the house for 30 people; taken both parents to the dentist; worked on rebuilding my store website; and today is lunch with an old friend of my grandmother's and haircuts. Plus this weekend we're going to MA with my mom's band for two shows and I leave Monday for FL. It's nonstop here :( and recreating this journal takes sooooooo much time that it'll have to wait to really get going on it. But it will get up and running I promise. There's a lot more to tell :o

Beckiii
07-31-2006, 05:14 PM
Here are some things I found as gifts for the female side of the BP and for my stepfather Phil.
The first is a handkerchief for Phil. He bawls like a baby at weddings and so far none of them have been ones he's been involved in, so I decided this was appropriate. http://www.thekeepsake.com/detailbridesfamily.asp?PRODUCT_ID=BridetoStepDad
It includes a monogram and this poem
A Dad in Many Ways
You are right here with me
on my special day
and since you took my Mother's hand
you've been a Dad in many ways.
Someone to listen
when my world seemed upside down
Someone to tell me things would be all right
and we'd somehow work it out.
You've done things for me and cared for me
I'll be grateful always
that you were the one to be a Father to me...
A Dad in many ways.

I don't know if I've mentioned this here, but I make jewelry as a side business. It was only natural then that I make my own jewelry to wear at the wedding. I finally got to it last week!

It was back to work this week for me and I am exhausted. It's amazing how easy it is for me to forget what it's like to work when I'm on summer vacation. Getting up at 5:30 every morning was nearly impossible for me this week. As was going to bed before 10 when I'd been going to bed at 2am for the last 2 months! Classes start on Monday. Welcome to my journal :)
Don't stress. 9 months is longer than you think so long as you stay on top of things. I've got just over 3 months and am seeing the light at the end of the planning tunnel. I'm not too worried. I know there's things to do still, but for the most part they are only things I know need to be done. If they don't get done, no one else will know ;)

I went back to work this week and it was the longest week ever. My students were good for the most part. I have a great group of Freshmen and my seniors are slackers, but nice slackers.

I also made my appt. for my dress fitting in October. Dan and I will fly up to NJ to do some wedding errands including getting our marriage license. He's also going to his bachelor party that weekend and has his 31st b-day on Monday. That weekend will be the exact 1 year mark since we got engaged. Seems fitting that we get the ML that weekend :D
