View Full Version : Do you take you E-ring off to go to bed?

I was reading an article that said that 90% of the damage done to an engagement ring is done during sleep, so I was just wondering if you guys take yours off to go to bed?
If so, do you ever forget to put it back on? If you do forget, what's that like?

NO. I never take mine off! I would be too worried that I would forget where I took it off or forget to put it back on. Things like that.

I don't wear mine when I go to sleep, shower, cook clean, play with the dogs, garden, ect. In fact I probably wear mine less than I wear it. The only time I wear it is if I am going out. Sean is the same way, he puts his on when he goes to work in the morning and takes it off when he gets home anc changes out of his suit.
The way I see it, he paid a lot for my e-ring and wedding bad. I just don't see the point of purposefully making them dirty (although I clean them at least once a week) or damaging them.
I have forgotten to put them on a few times. Sean has never been upset about that. He has forgotten to put his on once or twice too. It happens. But, putting mine on is just part of my getting rady to go out routine so I usually don't forget it. For me it would be like forgetting to brush my teeth or put on deodorant.

Yeah, I take my ring off when I go to bed. I'm too worried I'm going to lose it or something when I'm sleeping. I used to forget to put it back on...when I wasn't used to wearing jewlery. But now, I rarely forget to put it back on. When I do forget to put it back on....I usually notice right when I leave the house or something and then I keep thinking about how I forgot to put my ring on until I come home and put it on.

I don't wear mine to bed or to cook or clean and I don't wear it just when I am laying around the house. It is just a part of getting ready when I go out or to school or something.

Mark and i both wear our rings all the time. Occasionally Mark takes his off when he's having a shower or doing the dishes because sometimes soap gets caught under it and it causes him to get a bit of a rash where his ring sits.
I've never really thought about taking it off when i get home or i'm doing specific things. My mom never took hers off. So it just seemed a bit off for me to do that.
I clean it well every week or so and i'm not putting my hands in any wort of weird things so i don't see it as an issue.

I do wear it when I go to bed. I do however take it off when I take a shower(soap gets in it, bothers me), cook something messy (meatloaf), or put on lotion.....

In all honesty I have not been able to take mine off since the wedding. I believe they have missized it and made it smaller than what was ordered. If eventually I can take it off I will be taking it to be resized again.

I only take my rings off when I am doing dishes, cleaning or taking a shower. I do not take it off for just around the house. Matthew put a lot of thought into picking the ring for me and I love them. To me, it's a waste of two perfectly good rings and money for me to not wear them!!

I tak emine off to shower, put on lotion, and cook messy stuff, but I don't take it off to sleep. On teh few nights that I have taken it off, I have found myself waking up and freaking out over where it is. I took it off one morning to shower and forgot to put it back on. I went to work and realized it and remembered that the maintnance guys were coming and I had to call and rechedule the repairs, because I didn't know or trust them with my engagement ring!!!

I will take if off if I were to bake (LOL but who has time for that anyway?!) or if I was working with something messy but no, I keep mine on while I sleep.
When I have a bath or a shower, I take the opportunity to soak my rings into jewellery cleaner.

I can't wear mine when I sleep at all. My hands swell so bad that it actually hurts to have it one. I tried to wear it the first night I got it. I got up in the middle of the night and have to take it off. I haven't tried since. I also don't wear it out when it is hot and humid for the same reason. I don't think I had it on at all our on honeymoon because of the weather. I know it sounds ungrateful and weird but it gets very painful osmetimes for me to have them on.
Sean also doens't wear his when he is golfing because it pinches. (He also doesn't wear his watch golfing either.)

The only time Matt doesn't wear his is when he is working on machinery or when he was doing the helicopter inspection. He would either leave it at home or put it on the chain around his neck. Not the best idea either but at least he took it off his hand. When we are working on the farm I will probably ask him to take both off just incase...but that's just us! ;)

I never take mine off. I have read about the shower takign ths hine away and what not. But I can't take it off. Not because it is too small jsut because I can't. I also have my promise ring on the other hand. I tried not wearing it after I got my engagement ring but I just felt weird not having it one.
I were all 3 rings all the time. And does Nicholas. He actualy wears my class ring around his neck. I gave it too him the first time we met in person and he put it on his necklace ( well I put it there for him ) and it does not come off. He also wears the ring I got him after he moved up here that I had engraved for him. And I have a necklace that he gave me for valentines day that I dont take off either. We may sound foolish but we just dont want to take them off. They are a part of us now. And always will be.
We are probably the only married couple that has a ring on each hand that has alot of meaning. I think it is kinda nice and neat that we have these other rings as well.

I have to get my ring inspected every 6 months to keep the warrenty. I have to take it in in August. They clean it and inspect it. i am not worried about my ring at all.
If I put lotion on I do take it off. And I am holding it between my lips untill I am done and it goes right back on.

I take mine off when I shower, do dishes, and cook/bake anything messy. O and of course when I put on lotion. If I do gardening (hopefully I'll be able to next year!) I will take them off. I need to buy some jewlery cleaner. I have none. My fingers swell slightly at night and found, expecially on hotter night, I take my ring off cause my finger swells too much. Otherwise I still sleep with it on. I also have the plan that have me get my ring cleaned and inspected every 6 months. I think it's a good idea.

I dont take my ring off except to shower, use hair products, and to use lotion. Every once in a while I'll take it off when cleaning or something like that. I clean it every week with at home cleaner and take it to the jewelry store at least once a month to have it cleaned really well. I'm not worried about damage to my ring... it doesnt have traditional prongs on it that could bend and break, and the ring has been really durable.

I wore my e-ring when I was sleeping a lot, but cant do that with the whole wedding set. It scratches me a lot at night, so I take it off to sleep. I also will remove it if Im doing something that might mess it up. I dont forget to put it back on......I feel bad (and naked) without it. Brian doesnt take his off at all. Hes already got the wedding ring tan line!!!!!

I take it off to sleep, just because I also heard that it damages the ring to sleep in it. I need to get the cleaning solution from FH (I've only had it for about a week since it's been cleaned, cause we had a scare where we lost a stone, found it, and then had to have it put back) but I try not to worry about it.
I also take it off to shower, clean and go to the bathroom. I take my other ring (a souvenir from a trip) off to do those things too and I've had that one for two years, so it just seemed natural to treat the other one the same way.
I have a special box I put them both in and cover every night before I go to bed, so I know where they are. FH takes notice, because I tend to be a little scattered with my stuff in small piles on surfaces around the house, but the rings have their own special place.

I take my ring off before bed everynight and don't put it back on until I have gotten dressed (makeup and hair included) becaause I don't like the idea of anything happening to it while I sleep or do those things. I actually do this will all of my jewelry so it wasn't even a choice for me.
I'll admit though that I've been away from my FI since June 28th now and have slept with my ring on every night so that he's here with me. I still take it off before showering though.

Alot of times I will take mine off when I get home. I really shouldn't be wearing it at work anyway but I do. It's so easy to get it caught on things and I have heard so many horror stories. If I know I am going to work in the shop or have to do anything other than be in my loader I will take it off. None of the guys wear their rings here.

I take my e-ring off when I shower (it goes into the cleaner...I'm like Amber I don't like getting the soap on it) and when I'm cooking something messy, cleaning or working on the farm.
Eric purchased the gold warranty and the diamond warranty on both the e-ring and the wedding band/guard so at any rate it is covered for a lifetime.

I never take mine off either, except for the messy stuff. Adam also got the warranty on it, so as long as I bring it in every 6 months for inspections, it's covered.

Mine stays on unless I am in the shower, using lotion, or cooking to where it would get dirty.

Sometimes I do, and sometimes I don't... My engagement ring for some reason seems to make my finger break out in little pimples sometimes (what's weird is it isn't ALL the time...)
I take the ring off if my finger breaks out, and leave it off until it heals and usually it's fine for another two months or so.

I always take my ring off before I go to bed if it's not already off by that time. Usually if I am home, my ring is off so I don't damage it while cleaning or cooking.

Yes, I take mine off every night. I'm so afraid I'm going to damage it, I don't want to take that chance. I also take it off when I'm in the shower/bath or doing dishes.

I take my ring off to sleep, shower, clean the house (unless I'm just dusting), gardening, or doing anything with the house remodel. I also take it off when I wash my hands or put on lotion.
I used to have a marquis and slept with it on for the first few days I had it. That ended after I woke up bloody because I had split my lip open in my sleep! While I like the shape, those things are dangerous!
I also hate having water or lotion under my ring. It feels so gross to me, so I just can wear it if my hands will be wet. I probably baby it more than I should, but I love it and want it to be in good shape forever.

I always take my ring off when I sleep. The only time I really wear my ring is to work and when im out. When I am home it is safe in the jewelry box. I would hate for it to get scratch or real dirty.

I only take my ring off to keep it clean. Putting on lotion, taking a shower.
I actually had a VERY bad experience with taking it off about 2 weeks after I got it. I was at the hospital for a Dr.'s appt. and had to go to the bathroom. Since it was new I took my ring off and set it on the sink to wash my hands. I went back to the waiting room and after a while I realized I didnt have my ring on. I went to go check in the bathroom, but someone was in there. It was at this time that the nurse called me back to an exam room. Wonderful. I told her what was going on and she said she would check if she could find it. When I got done with the Dr. the bathroom door was open so I went to check...No Ring. I saw the nurse and asked her...No Ring. I asked the nurse at the desk if anyone had turned it in...No Ring. At this point I was bawling uncontrollably. I was completely dejected and went to the bathroom to get some kleenex. I stuck my hands in my pockets...and I found the ring!! :bbeek: It was the most relieved I have ever been. ANYWAY, the point is after this I hardly ever take off my ring, unless I am going to put it right back on.:D

I take mine off when I sleep. I tried at first to wear it, but it's a solitaire and has scratched both me and FH while sleeping, so I generally put it in the jewelry case. I hate it though, when I forget to put it on the next day. Doesn't happen often, but when it does, I can't wait to get home to put it on. I also take it off when working with raw meat, don't want to get nasty germs on it!
