We're in talks with our photographer, and we're combining engagement photos with our meeting to make sure we mesh well. I have no idea what to wear though. I want to be dressy without looking like I'm trying too hard. We definitely aren't the matchy-matchy white polos and jeans type of couple. I'm thinking a more casual dress and heels/nice shoes for me, maybe jeans and a button down shirt for him.
I found a couple really cute dresses at the Canadian Forever 21, but I'm worried about buying it online and it being too short/skanky looking or the wrong colour for me. My grandma will see these pics, so I want to look presentable to all ages. lol
I prefer this one...

But this one's pretty cute...

What did you (and your FH) wear for your engagement photos (if you had them obviously)? Did you go matchy or just coordinating?

My fiance and I took pictures around Christmas time to give to our families as gifts. The photographer who took them suggested we wear something that wasn't too distracting. She said stripes and other busy outfits distract from the rest of the picture and it also makes it a little harder to edit.
Both of those dresses you picked out I think would be fine. I wore a white sweater and he wore a blue button up shirt when we took ours. We also both wore jeans.

As a photographer I always recommended to stay away from prints as they can be distracting to the eye in pictures.
You don't have to match, but coordinating solid colors look best in pictures IMPO ;)
If you wear a print (both dresses are cute) then have him wear a coordinating solid.
If you get the strapless dress and you think is shows too much, you can always get a short shrug or light sweater or shawl to go with it :)

You mean those dresses wouldn't look good with a nice plaid against them?
But yeah, that's definitely what I was thinking. I was figuring for the first dress a nice solid blue or green button down shirt or polo would be nice. Not sure he'd like the second dress... he's picky... lol
Overall feel and style is of the pictures is important to me (our photographer is more of a fashion photographer) and I think some interesting piece of clothing is almost needed to make the pictures really pop. Yet we're planning on getting the pics taken at a park, where it's very green, so the backgrounds will be very solid coloured, and not too distracting.
I'll ask my photographer and see what she thinks...

I think that first dress is adorable! I agree with Brandi, if you are going for a print, make sure he is in a solid.
This is what we wore:

We both had jeans on. He had a nicer pair of shoes and I had heels. I think for the park, anything can go. For us, we had them taken at the race track, so we couldn't go too dressy.

I'm sure you guys will look great, whatever you decide. Those dresses are really cute.

i'm def. not a fan of the matchy matchy look (no offense to those that did that)... it's just too much for me... u should "match" in terms of not clashing colors, patterns, etc.

I personally did not care for FH's lovely combo of prints  but I guess he's old enough to pick out his own clothes...lol...plus it's him.

So FH and I decided to look around locally to see what we can find for a dress before buying online, but I'm going to remember that first one as a back up. There's this dress store that I usually get my dresses from, so I'm going to check there and hope they have something summery-casual-but-still-nice enough. After I pick my dress he's going to find either a solid coloured button up or polo that coordinates, and he'll wear jeans and this nice pair of running shoes he has (http://www.skechers.com/shoes-and-clothing/men/styles/casual_shoes/product/relaxed_fit_artifact_-_excavate/ntbr/). Should look casual but still nicely dressed.

OF COURSE they would! just pair him in a green and orange plaid....:winktongue:
fh would SHOOT me if i put him in plaid, lol.....he don't even like flannel, unless it's solid, and even then, they get trashed 2 yrs later when i find 'em in the bottom of the closet:irked:
