Why is junk food SO GOOD, and healthy food just doesn't really compare? Not to mention, junk food is so quick and easy to prepare and healthy food takes time and preparation?

:innocent:

Maybe the real reason why its healthy is because you actually have to "work" to cook and prepare versus getting in your car and getting it handed to you?! :)

I seriously have never thought of it that way, but now that you brought it to my attention, I want to know why too!!! :irked:

In the UK recently they tested some "Healthy" Salads for contents. They found that 4 of the 5 they selected had MORE Salt, Sugar and Calories than a Big Mac. :bbeek:

I've always said that the chips (French Fries) stolen off of DH's plate don't count as calories.

Because they were on his plate, not mine. :winktongue:

Plus fast food in the UK is not what i would call "Fast". I've waited 20 minutes for a burger.
I think they went round the back and chased the cow before putting it in a bun.

I think people become accustomed to the taste of salt, fats, sugar and such that is in the fast food; some say it can even be addicting.

I don't necessarily think all healthy food is tasteless, but some certainly is IMPO ;) I think the whole fast thing is just because it is mass produced and all the prep is done before hand. So when you place your order it can be done in minutes; plus there is usually a couple of people working on your order too.

We can make healthier alternatives at home that still taste good. It just takes some thinking ahead and some prep time. Instead of salt I try to use some other herbs as seasonings ... I don't fry stuff ... I only eat natural cheese (well most of the time) instead of the fatty processed kind.

I still eat out a couple times a week and I am still not a health freak and I am sure I could be in better shape, but I do know that I feel better now than I did a couple of years ago when we ate far worse than we do now.

It is funny though; some of the prepackaged "diet" foods have just has much salt and cholesterol and as the regular versions; may have less fat and calories, but they have to get the "taste" in there somehow so people will eat it. Plus salt is a common preservative so it is in just about everything, even low sodium stuff.

i will say as a former fast food addict... wendy's n i were BFFs lol... fast food does not taste that good once u stop eating it...

it's hard tho... for like a month i would get CRAVINGS for a burger n fries... and i'd say i'll just get one... but i resisted b/c i knew 1 would turn back into 3-5 times/week!
Once i got past the first month, the cravings went away completely... over a year later I still only get salt cravings maybe once/month n it's not that bad...

i went to wendy's today for the first time in like 6 months and got a burger meal... it was SO not satisfying like it used to be.

we do eat out and get junk food but I've decided to avoid the fast food places like wendy's, mcd's, bk... things like that... i do go to sub places still which i realize are just as bad but i don't get cravings for d'angelos like i did for wendy's... i'd be willing to swear theres an addictive chemical in fast food LOL

I saw on TV once that the reason we get sweet cravings is to make sure that we are eating berries and getting the needed antioxidants. Having a strong sweet tooth means that you need some nutrient.

I read somewhere that the sugar in some types of junk food give a speedier boost of serotonin than healthier, complex carbs, and that is part of it, that it's not unlike drugs that do the same thing, and also fall out fast.

But, I mean, I don't have any evidence to support any of that

I'm the direct opposite, I get cravings for like... broccoli. Or cabbage. I made borsch because I was craving beets. And coffee, but I drink too much of that and decided a post-work nap is a better use of my time... ;) If I eat junk I feel awful. Especially if I'm exercising a lot. FH and I almost never go out, and we don't buy the pre-made food or hamburger helper or any of that since it's cheaper to buy the ingredients, so everything takes forever for us to make, healthy or not, hahaha. Except cereal. I don't know, I'm so used to having vegetables and stuff all the time that if it doesn't taste that way, I don't like it. I can't eat McDonald's or the like because I feel like I'll throw up. I don't cook the healthiest, and I may use a touch too much olive oil, but eh. We're both healthy.

I crave nachos bell grande and bean burritos from Taco Bell. I swear they put stuff in it to make you become addicted. I like healthy stuff too and I agree that once you start eating healthier dinners, etc., restaurant food just isn't as good.

Not only is junk food easier to find, requires little to no preparation, and tastes excellent, it's also way cheaper to eat!!!

When I make dinner at home with healthy ingredients, I always spend way more than I would if I just bipped down to Mickey-D's and got some McDoubles!!!

I'm addicted to Taco Bell's red sauce. So far I haven't found ANYWHERE who has red sauce that compares to Taco Bell's. Even the sauce packets don't work for me. When I'm craving Taco Bell's red sauce, the ONLY thing that satiates that craving is their warm red sauce they put in the burritos/enchiritos/etc. Unfortunately, I get these cravings several times a month :irked:
