I have dark hair and very light skin, and I have started to notice the hair on my upper lip getting darker!! OMG it looks like a mustache! Has any ever bleached their upper lip hair before? Does it hurt? Is it hard to do? Can anyone recommend a product for me?

I've done it a few times before. I buy nair hair bleach. It's really easy - you mix two things together (one is bleach, i'm not sure what the other is), put it on, wait a few minutes and then wipe it off.

You can also buy the nair that dissolves the hair. It works just as well. The problem with it is that if you wipe too hard when you take it off, it may scab a little. With the bleach, the problem is that it also bleaches your skin, so sometimes your upper lip looks really light.

I have never bleached but I have waxed and I will never do it again! I have really light hair, but sometimes I noticed it and want it gone. I have used hair remover lotions or one of those little mini razor/trimmer things.

So last night I tried a product that dissolves the hair. It said leave on for 3 minutes; so I did that and then wiped off and very little hair was gone. So I did it again, for 3 minutes that time most of the hair was gone but a little was left on the outer edge. So I did it a third time for 2 minutes and everything was gone that time. My skin feels smooth but I have a little red irritation in one spot. Also it stung this morning when I washed my face there. All in all I would say the results were pretty good.

sometimes i get the "mustache" shadow... i have a mole on my upper lip n i get a few dark hairs that grow out of it... it's not dark enough to warrant bleaching plus there's not enough of them... so i usually get out my hair cutting scissors n trim it down n pluck out the few dark hairs... pluckin them SUCCCCKS but they go away for awhile... especially if (like when u do ur eyebrows) u get the root out w/the hair...

i would rather have it waxed you have about 30seconds of eye watering discomfort but it lasts 3 or 4 weeks an once you do it on a regular basis the hairs get thinner your upper lip will be red after it for a few hrs but i go to a professional to get my waxing done an she is great thats why its not as painfull i did try bleaching but i found i didnt do it as oftain as i should to lazy so thats why i tried the waxing

I've waxed, bleached, plucked and threaded my "moustache". I have a few dark hairs on the corners of my upper lip only, but I don't like seeing them at all! The bleaching was obviously the least painful and I think it helped a little, but I still saw hair, which grossed me out a little.

I used to wax my upper lip when I waxed my eyebrows, but I have really sensitive skin and my brow and lip would swell up and get red welts on them. Really embarrassing!

Now I typically get both threaded, which still hurts a little, but the irritation isn't as bad for me and I love the lines it creates on my brows. Speaking of which, I'm in need of some threading right now! haha

Danielle,

I'd go talk to your doctor about the facial hair. I know that this was something my doctor asked me about when I wasn't having a period/getting pregnant. It can signify a hormonal imbalance. Hair on the stomach too is a sign. Maybe this is the problem you're having with TTC???

Yea I been reading on about PCOS and I seem to have most of the symptoms except the weight gain. Defiantly something I will talk to my doctor about. I didn't want to call again since I already called 3 times and they probably already think I am a hypercondriac. Only 17 more days till I get to CD90 and then they HAVE to see me.

I've waxed, bleached, plucked and threaded my "moustache".

Ditto. I have tried it all but the only thing I won't do is use any type of razor/trimmer thing. I refuse to have any type of razor stubble!

The older I get (hence hormones changing), the darker and the coarser it gets.

IMHO - threading hurt the most.

Professional waxing is much better than the do-it-yourself kits (which I had to reapply & reapply to get it all). I am just too lazy to keep going out to have it done.

I currently use a Nair cream at night before I got to bed so that I can grease my upper lip with polysporin afterwards. If I don't add the polysporin, my upper lip will turn red!

Do you have to use the Nair every night?

I use Nair facial cream. It's a 'leave on for no more than 10 minutes' cream. I've only done it twice that night to get every bit of it rather than just most of it, and so far I love it. I did it about 3 weeks ago and I'm about due to do it again. Sierra always teases me about my "moustache", so I decided I better do something about it.

Oh heck no ...... I do it about every 2 weeks or so. I find the stuff harsh (I use a 5 minute cream) and so, rather than run around with a red upper lip during daylight hours, I will go to sleep with one :)

If I notice one or two hairs that is growing faster than the rest, I will just pluck it.

I used to bleach but white hair against an upper lip is just about as pretty as dark hair

I only ask because I used the dissolve stuff last week. I don't remember the brand off the top of my head but it could have been Nair. And I noticed yesterday some more dark ones growing on the sides. I am kinda a wimp when it comes to plucking though. :sheep:

I agree with the plucking thing. I plucked one stray on my lip not too long ago and ACHOO instantly. I really don't like plucking the strays!

Yeah that is where they sneak out on my lip first.

I just did the neet/veet/nair thing on my legs (a friend highly recommended it) and I have to say that I am disappointed. The stuff is supposed to work in 3 minutes but not to be left on for more than 6 minutes ..... but even after sitting on the side of the tub for 10, it still didn't remove all. My legs look just as spotty as if I had shaved. I might as well go back to using a razor on my legs. :irked:

I despise people that only have to shave once a week or every two weeks. :icon_barbar:

Me too. I shave in the morning and by the time I get home I have stubble. :irked: I think I am part ape or something. :chimp:

Don't use nair, I used it before and it burned my skin on my upper lip. Get your upper lip waxed or threaded. I get my threaded along with my eybrows.

I believe everyone's skin reacts differently to different things. I had no problem with Nair facial hair remover and I had it on my lip twice for 10 minutes to be thorough :D

So I did the nair again but then last night noticed more dark hairs!! UGG these suckers grow in fast. So I figured I would try to pluck one and see how bad it really was. And to my surprise it barely hurt at all. So I will get using the nair and then pluck the strays until the doctor can figure out what it wrong with me.

lol obviously most of us have this problem!

don't feel bad lol...fh always tells me "you need to shave" (like he doesnt!)...i use sally hansens cream bleach, or i get waxed.....if it's soft, i use the cream, if it's (ugh) those crazy black hairs, i get waxed....

oh, and i have to get brows, chin, and lip waxed, as well as the left(my left) under side of my chin, where in one single little centimeter spot, about 5 LONG black hairs continue to grow:irked: plucking them doesn't work, they're to soft...bleach doesn't work, b/c the part closest to the skin isn't as soft....so i TRY to get it waxed, but the chinese woman who does me, always forgets.....argh, crazy lady lol....and she makes fun of me! "oh, you got BIIIIG black hai! you wax ev-y day, no?!".....she annoys me and cracks me up at the same time lol

I don't have dark hair above my lip, but having any hair there bothers me. I get it waxed every month or two. Sure it stings quite a bit, but it's so worth it.

i am the same way! i have discovered that if i shave with goosebumps, it doesnt grown in as fast and it's a little later in the evening before i notice hair. sure it's a little easier to cut yourself when you have them, but if you take your time, it might work for you too. it sucks because you have to be cold to do it (obviously lol) but it might be worth it =P
