Ovarian Cysts

I found out I have ovarian cysts. I ahvent been to the doc yet so I dont know what they arelike- but should I be worried? Can they be cancerous?

Just wondering if any of you know or have had them?

Ovarian cysts are fairly common. I've had many, as had the other women in my family. Typically you won't even know they're there unless they're pretty large. Most of them will dissolve and go away on their own, sometimes they will have to be removed if they are causing a problem. They are almost always not cancerous.
Sometimes doctors will put women on the pill if they get them regularly because the pill seems to stop the cysts from forming in most women.
I don't know the details of your particular situation, but your doctor should be able to figure out how big it is and if it's causing you any particular problems.

Oh ok I feel better. I thimk I have had it at least a year- i always have a weird sharp pain on my left side. Is it bad if they are there a while?
Also, I have been on BC- shouldnt that of gotten rid of it?

How did you find out you have ovarian cysts, but havent been to the Dr yet?

But yeah I have heard they are fairly common, though I have no personal experience.

Oh, wait, your doctor didn't tell you that you have one? It could be something else then. You definitely need to see a doctor.

And for your q - BC doesn't get rid of cysts, it only can prevent someone from getting them as often.

I got an ultrasound, and the nurse called me and told me I had a few cysts.
She said I need a blood test and I go in on monday to talk about what to do

Cysts are fairly common. I've had quite a number, however, I've had a number of problems with them. My cysts can/sometimes do rupture when I'm under a lot of stress (I hope you never have to go through that). Unfortunately, I can't take BC to help keep them under control.

Honestly though, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

That describes my situation with cysts as well. Most people don't have such a bad experience though!
