We are going to have a very simple, private wedding and I have been thinking about what to do for a dress. We have a really tight budget and not planning to do anything fancy, never had dreams of the big wedding, so not a problem for me. So, I was just considering sundresses or skirt/blouse combos, but then I happened onto this picture: http://www.brides.com/myweddingplanner/myimages/detail/6622943/

I LOVE the flow of this dress, it fits my style perfectly. So, what I am considering is getting a simple white dress for the "base" and making/having someone make a similar overlay. Does anyone know what that fabric might be? Is it tulle? Is this a doable project, or unrealistic?

it says the page no longer exists....maybe, since it's under your own private space on their site, it doesn't allow for c&p of a viewable link....when you get pic privledges, try adding a pic through photobucket....

That is gorgeous. Really, gorgeous.

You know, I've seen some prom dresses that looked a little bit like that. It can't hurt to explore that venue, because prom dresses can look very sophisticated (depending on the dress) sometimes and cost much, much less.

that's very true! a friend of mine, sound a champagne prom gown that was georgette(very much looking like your picutre above!), and it had beading throughout, and it was like 200! and it had a nice little 2 ft train, that had it's own bustle built in ;) always a $-saver! and the little cap sleeves, snapped on, so she was able to take them off, and wear the gown again for a military ball!

You can always try victoria's secret clothing section on their website, they often have simple cotton dresses that you could have things added on to (I have gotten many summer dresses from their site and have always been thrilled with them!) They have a lot of things in white.

Or you could try a bridesmaid's dress in white in the style you want as the base and have someone add on to it. Alfred Angelo has a lot of gorgeous BM dresses that are sold for around $100 sometimes. I am having a laidback wedding and my dress is actually going to be a white BM dress from that line, and I'm just adding lace/embellishments here and there.

And I think that is tulle... or at least something similar... I think it's doable with an experienced/good seamstress... do you know anyone who is? That would be a big money-saver and you could always ask them to make that their wedding gift to you ;)
