Nice Karen!! You are making a wonderful difference in the world by teaching people how to save lives!! That is great!! I just want to brag too and say that I am CPR certified, just because I wanted to be!! :) (Matt and I both are, we thought it would be good to know CPR and first Aid for when we have children!! And we both carry face masks with us all the time just in case we need to administor CPR (or mouth to mouth) to anyone!! :) ) Again I just want to thank you for making a difference and teaching others how to save lives!! :)

Thanks, Shawna! One of the first things they taught us was, even though we are CPR Instructors, we are not obligated to give mouth-to-mouth to anyone on the street. A person does not have to risk their own lives to save another. But we will give chest compressions until the paramedics arrive.

That is why we carry the face masks. They are attached to our key chains...or rather they used to be, but the nylon ripped and now mine is in my purse.

I think that's awesome, Shawna!! I'm going to get some to carry with me too. Hopefully, when something bad happens, I will have them on me at the time.

It's a really good thing incase you accidently blow air into their stomach. Most times what comes back at you ain't pretty! (vomit!! lol) And it's a one way valve. It's also good for heart attack victims who have gone unconcious, I believe our instructor told us that they would vomit too. And let's face it, that's omething we don't want to be getting a mouth full of when trying to save someone's life!! :)
This is similar to what we have.

Congratulations Karen. I hope however you never have to use it and it just gets dirty from carrying it around. I too was certified once and unfortunatly had to use mine away from the hospital. It was extremely hard for me that day. But it felt good to be of service to this man at the time. once more, congratulations on the certification.

I have my CPR, First Aid and Bloodeborne Pathogens certification, I need to check my cards and make sure I don't let them run out...
I am also licensed to carry a Concealed Deadly Weapon (in the states that allow) and a KY State at Large Notary! LOL what a combination!
I have a first aid kit in the truck, next to my gun and Notary Seal!:bblol:

I agree. Using CPR would be rough. Our instructor always told us, if you commited to breaking their ribs in the first palce to do CPR, don't stop! I was like :bbeek: . I have to break their ribs....My swim instructor never told me that when I first took it when I was 12. But it all makes sense. I told Matt if we were together I'm not sure what I woudl do, compressions or rescue breathing. Breaking ribs or being near vomit in most cases...I think I have a problem with both!!
When we were doing our course our instructor posed a scenario to us, where a 2 year old child was not breathing and had no pulse, there was a choking concious victim and a few others. He asked who we would help first. Everyone looked at me like I was horriable person when I said I would leave the 2 year old and go to the choking concious victim. I guess everyone else thought a 2 year old (Not breathing, no pulse...pretty well deceased!!) was more important than a choking concious person. I remember thinking, man people, did you not pay ANY attention to the whole course!!!

LOL I'm sorry, guess that did come off as big time "LOOK AT ME LOOK WHAT I CAN DO"...
"Pin a rose" I love you too Heather! You goofball!
...I am my mother's child, we carry purses full of stuff to handle any situation...the CPR stuff came with my old job and I just kept it up, in case I needed it (have used the knowledge twice). The Notary is due to my current job. As for the gun, I've always had one since about 1993...I was a MP in the Air Force and served 3 yrs on the local police force where my dad serves (he was so proud)...it's like an extension of me.
I am PROUD to say that I am very capable of taking care of myself in most situations...and Heather is right...at almost 6' not too many people mess with me (that and my shining personality)!:bbeek:
YOUR GUYS ARE TOO FUNNY!

Back in the day I was all about the USAF, my dad was career military, 26 yrs USAF, then he went into civilian police work...I of course followed in his footsteps...I met my ex, got out of the law enforcement and the rest is history...I had every intention of going on to become a State Trooper...

I have to tell you this...Eric would kill me so SHHHHHHHHHH
Him and his dad have a terrible habit of trying to sneak up on people...he caught my back turned a couple of months ago when we were out trying to kill coyotes one night (they kill calves) and snuck up behind me and grabbed me...I had his arm jerked behind him and threw him face down on the ground before he could get out "Ellen, it's me"... once I realized it was him I removed my foot from his head and let him up............then I proceeded to tell him that I also had my hand on my gun (hip holster) and was milliseconds away from drawing it! Guess who NEVER sneaks up on me anymore??
