So I started typing a really long play by play of my wedding weekend. Then I figured most people would be bored with it so I won't bother posting it (its super long and I haven't even got past the ceremony yet!). But I am going to finish it and put it in a scrapbook or something so that 50 years from now I can read it and go "oh yeah, I forgot about that!".
I'll just give a short-ish run down. It went really well, only a couple of blips...the main one being the rain and cold weather! We couldn't take many outside pics and I couldn't wear my hair half up and half down because it would have gotten frizzy. My MOH didn't like my bridesmaid and was rude to her. Luckily my BM just tried to ignore her and didn't do anything that could have ruined my day. The tux pants were too big for most of the guys. The ties & vests did not match the BM dresses at all...but it coordinated so that is all that matters.
I wasn't nervous and I didn't pass out. I actually got to enjoy the day! Normally when I'm nervous I get a stomach ache and don't feel good. Luckily that wasn't the case. The ceremony went beautifully. I was so calm and it just seemed to go so perfectly. DH and I were seriously betting on me passing out but I did great. I didn't cry, I think it was because I was aware of so many people watching me. I just remember smiling a lot at DH. Marrying my best friend was my favorite part of the whole day. I just thought the whole ceremony went beautifully!
As for the decorations and stuff, I thought the centerpieces (lots of candles) looked great. I loved my card box that I made. The programs turned out nice & so did the bubbles. I made WAY too many bubbles. I think I had like 80 and I was afraid that wasn't enough. It was MORE than enough.
The kissing bells were a complete WASTE. Only one table really used them and I'm thinking they didn't know what they were. They just kept ringing them, even after we kissed. We had made like 140 bells and only a few got rang. A total waste of time (they took so long to make and there were 3 of us working on them) and money.
Everyone had a piece of cardstock at their place setting that they were supposed to fill out that asked for advice for the newly weds, a place to draw a picture and how they knew us, etc. I plan on making a scrapbook with them.
Every place setting had a fortune cookie. And then there was the centerpieces in the middle which were surrounded by orange flower petals, hershey kisses and 6 votive candles. The centerpieces looked pretty good but once we got the kissing bells, guestbook pages, pens, fortune cookies and hershey kisses on the table, everything kind of looked cluttered to me.
So if I could do it again, I'd keep it simple. The guestbook pages were fun to read after they were filled out and I'm glad we did them, but we could have left them off the tables at the beginning and then had someone go around and pass them & the pens out so that they weren't cluttering the tables. I wouldn't recommend using that as your only guest book though. Not everyone filled them out. But most everyone did sign our guestbook frame.
The flowers turned out beautiful. I'm glad I went with fake flowers. Less hassle, less expensive and I don't think anyone noticed or cared that they were fake and I can keep my bouquet and altar arrangements forever.
The food was awesome. It felt so good to get a hot meal in my stomach. I hadn't ate much the past couple days due to nerves and stress. The food was even more awesome at $5 a plate! And he provided napkins, silverware & plates. We had a lot of left overs. We had 150 some people RSVP yes and about 50 people who did not reply. So to be safe, we just added 30 extra plates and we ended up with about 30 extra plates. People who do not RSVP need a lesson in manners, thats for sure!
The reception was a blast, everyone had a great time. I loved our DJ's, they did a super job. DH and I were completely sober and it was kind of fun to watch everyone else get wasted as the night went on. Its nice knowing I didn't do anything stupid either. lol The dance floor was hopping most of the time and if I saw it empty, I went out and then other people would follow. We did the dollar dance. I made the most money!! We didn't do a garter toss as MIL only made me one garter. I did the bouquet toss. My 10 year old niece caught it. If I had thought ahead, I would have said adults only. I know that my niece was so excited and happy she caught it, but I have a few adult friends that I would have loved to see catch it. At the last wedding I attended, I caught the bouquet and DH proposed a couple of months later. So I wanted my MOH to catch it. Oh well.
The suprising thing was I was not tired until it was over. I wasn't sore. My feet didn't hurt. My abs hurt from the dress being so tight but other than that, I felt great. I figured by midnight, I'd be ready to pass out. We were supposed to stay in a hotel suite but I decided that I wanted to go home and see the dogs and sleep in my own bed. I'm so glad we did. I don't like staying in hotel rooms, so I'm not sure why we thought it was a good idea to begin with. lol
All in all, it was wonderful. I loved being the center of attention. I loved being treated like royalty for a day. On Friday we started to think we would have been better off eloping - we were so tired and run down and it was only Friday. But it turned out great and I somehow found enough energy to get through the whole weekend! :)
Ok so that got super long but I promise its way shorter than the version I planned to post!! :D
