Amber & I , and my 3 year old grandson, are all going to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus tonight!! I'm so excited!! :ura1: We're going to have so much fun! But I did want to share with you that we can't tell my grandson that we're going to see clowns there or he won't go. We can say the word circus, elephant, tiger, and everything else... but if we say the word clown, it's over. He is deathly afraid of clowns to the point of terror. :bbeek: So, I hope we are sitting far enough away from the stage, so that he doesn't think they will get him.

Thanks! I have to get myself prepared for the worst. What do you think the worst could be? The worst I have ever seen him is when his Mother came to get him from my house and he didn't want to leave. He cried so hard, that he stopped breathing for what felt like forever. It scared me and his Mother to death. I blew air in his face, hoping that he would catch his breath, which he finally did. I have heard that some kids have passed out doing that, but that it wasn't a big deal and not to panic over it. Right. I will panic! I hope it's nothing like that.

Don't worry about the clowns. I'm sure you'll have lots of fun. My parents took us to the circus when we were younger. I would love to go again! I remember that it was so much fun. I still remember the blow up elephant that my parents bought me. I also remember there was so much going on you couldn't look at it all at once. It was a blast!

Okay, being deathly afraid of clowns, I would suggest bringing a paper bag. I know he's only three, but I hyperventalate when I'm around them and the only thing that saves me is a brown paperbag. I would also suggest if he gets really scared to point out other things. I.E. Look at the elephant! Or Wow! Look at the people on the trapeze! I'm not sure what there is to a circus as I have never been, but he's only three, so he may be easily distracted enough to forget they're there if you guys are pointing out other things to them.

Thanks, Kelli! When I see the clowns, I'ill have him looking elsewhere. I won't focus on them, but I will make a big deal out of everything else. He will love it!!

The only other thing I could think he might do is try to get away and I don't mean like being polite and saying excuse me, but I can see him trying to climb over people and just trying like mad to get away. A trip to the bathroom or the concession stand may help in that case. But I agree, try pointing out the other GOOD things at the circus!! I hope you all have fun!! :)

We're back!! It was so much fun!! We were sitting so close to the stage!! My grandbaby was fine, because I think they are making the clowns look less made up than they used to back in the olden days. They just looked like regular people with funny clothes and hats on. He wasn't one bit scared of them. They had performing cats, dogs, birds, horses, and elephants!! They were all awesome! There were about 10 motorcycles that rode around in this little cage ball! That was amazing!! All in all, it was a fantastic time, I'm so glad we went. Now I have a three day weekend and I get to spend time with my grandson!! Life is good!! :p
