My foot hurts! :irked: I've had a pain in it for weeks now and I've finally caved and made an appointment to go to a podiatrist tomorrow. Doctors make me nervous. I'm a big chicken.
Basically, I supinate when I walk - which means I walk on the outside edges of my feet because I have really high arches. I think it's catching up to me because my right foot is (and has been) SO sore in the area where my foot makes impact with the floor. :( I kept hoping it would go away on its own, but, alas, I'm basically limping around and trying to somehow walk on the inside of my foot, but I've ended up looking pretty gimpy.
I'm super afraid they're going to try to convince me to stop wearing flip flops! I LIVE in flip flops.
So...anybody been to a podiatrist? Anything scary I should know about?

Aw Gwen, I'm sorry! The only time I've been to a podiatrist was last summer when I had an ingrown toenail on my right foot.....he numbed my toe and sliced out part of my nail (NOT pleasant at all)!
So, you supinate your foot while you walk? The only time I've done that is when my arch gets that "pulled muscle" feeling....is that what yours feels like?

Ouch! That sounds horrible!
The supination has been the way I've always walked so, no, there's no "pulled muscle" feeling in my arch - my arch actually feels fine. It's the outside edge of my foot (where I step) that's where the pain is! I've been trying to overcompensate and walk on the inside of my foot, but that's not working too well! haha :)
I have been to a podiatrist, nothing scary at all. Mine was a bit different, I "tweeked" my foot and had a limp for a while and he couldn't figure out what i had done. So they put me in a walking cast for like 6 weeks and physical therapy, which didn't help. Needless to say they sent me to a specialist who ended up doing exploratory surgery on me and found that my bone in my foot had a "divet" in it. He drilled holes in the cartlidge to bring blood flow back. To this day, I still have problems with it, it may be something that i just end up living with (i don't want the screws and stuff in my foot!). So much for those marathons I was wanting to run. NOT. :)

Ahhhh I get it now. What an odd place to have foot pain! Let us know what happens if you go to the podiatrist, and hopefully that feeling will go away soon so you can walk normally again!

I used to see one somewhat regularly when I was a little kid, I have almost no arch and it has caused some issues for me. It is not scary but they do get a little 'high and mighty', for lack of a better way to say it, about how everyone should always be wearing orthopedic sneakers at all times. I didn't really listen.

That's sort of what I fear - that they'll try to yank me out of my flip flops!

So I went to the podiatrist earlier - I so didn't want to since I heard this morning that a friend had died suddenly yesterday and I was practically in tears all day...he has had a long standing drug problem so I suspect that may be what caused it. Cause of death - for now - is unknown...
But the podiatrist basically said that I need to rest my foot, only wear tennis shoes, take 800 mgs of ibuprofen 2 or 3 times a day and ice it often for a week. She said that will probably ease the inflammation. Boy I hope so. We'll see. She's also going to see about getting me orthotics for my tennis shoes for when I'm doing high impact stuff so I can take the burden off the outside of my foot.
Hopefully the pain will indeed subside with this treatment plan!
Anyway, there's the update.
Oh, and she didn't say I had to stop wearing flip flops forever, which was my biggest fear.
Thanks for the support everybody...:)
