I have always been fascinated by bustles, so I did a little researching on them. This is what I found out. There are many different kinds of bustles. Here are a few.

Depending on your style, some dresses have long trains that make for a beautiful and elegant effect during your ceremony. After your ceremony, many brides will "bustle" their train, allowing them to move around more easily and prevent the train from dragging on the floor (and your guest from stepping on it). A bustle involves "gathering up" the train (with loops or hooks) so that it is off the floor and attached to the top of the skirt portion of the dress.

Overbustle: This involves raising the train by securing parts of the train to the waistline or any part of the train. Before and After Photos:

French Bustle or Underbustle: Draws excess fabric under the train and is attached using ribbon ties. This seems to be the more popular style while also being more secure than the overbustle. Before & After Photos:

Pick-up Bustle:

Some gowns are simple in their design, fitting closely to the body with little skirt "fluff". Because there is less fabric in the hip area and the train is usually shorter, trying to do an Over or Under Bustle just looks silly. Only one pick-up/anchor point is chosen. The anchor point is set much lower than for the other bustles because the skirt is not wide enough. Trying to pick-up the back of the skirt to the waist area would make it much too short on the sides. Before & After Photos:

I had the French bustle with ties. It held very securely and was ealy to do. It had 7 loops and 7 ribbons. You just put the ribbon through the loop and tied it.

I don't know what type of bustle mine was. It looks a bit like the pick-up bustle. There were 3 loops and 3 pearls for it to be looped on. They left a little to drag on the floor (2") and someone steped on it breaking the centre one then the rest came shortly after. So i ended up carrying it arround all night as if it was a security blanket.

Amber's is the french bustle, and it looks very similar to the picture. We just have to learn how to do it. :D

Just ask them to number the loops and ribbons and it is super easy. Heck if Amber is the least bit flexible she could do it herself. I did mine myself at one of the fittings.

My dress has a VERY short train. Hardly enough to even be a train! So I am considering just leaving it down for the ceremony. It doesn't get in my way, and I can't see it making that big of a difference on my dress. I do love some of the bustles though.

Trust me, get the little pick up bustle put on it. EVERYONE will be stepping on it. I had mine bustled and people still stepped on the little inch or two that was hanging down all night.

I HATE bustles, but will probably go with the underbustle...since my train is sooooo long and heavy!!!

The back of my dressis similar to the middle one. My dress will be bustled like that one is.

I had the simple one button with a loop to go around it. BUt it wasn't enough. It would come undone when ever I sat down or danced too much. So before going to the bar I had my girls add a couple of safetly pins
