I just found out who was the President of the United States when I was born. Gosh, that made me feel old. I thought it might be fun if you want to share your president. :D

I would not have known that Amber, if I didn't look it up. He's another dead one. Jimmy Carter is still alive, and I think Gerald Ford it still alive too. And the first George Bush and Bill Clinton are still alive. Any other former presidents still alive?

Yeah but tall and good looking are prerequisits to a good leader. He did put the final nail in the coffin of the Cold War. But hell, he did that by outspending the USSR. I could have done that with a Mastercard and trip to Macy's. There wasn't too much at that point to outspend. However, it would have been kind of nice if he and his advisors had a plan in place for what to do with the USSR AFTER the Cold war ended. Then of course there was the economoic recession that boardered on a depression, the AIDS crisis, the "war" on drugs. And don't get me started on that air headed, touchy feely, self esteem loving wife of his. I disliked her more than I disliked him as a child. She was scary.

Honestly, I do believe he was a really good leader. I wouldn't put "Greatest President" after many of our current leaders... I'm more for older Pres. like Teddy Roosevelt and Abe Lincoln...
I am a conservative person, but I am not partisan. I liked JFK because he was trying to get rid of the Federal Reserve (which would have been great) but that's a WHOLE other discussion!

I'm definitely not a republican....but I did like Reagan, to an extent....but I wouldn't put it as much as he was our best president. My vote for best president would be for JFK, no doubt about it. I think our country would be a much better place if he wouldn't have been assassinated so early in his term.

I once dated a guy who was way beyond obsessed with Reagan. He thought that Ronnie was the greatest person to ever grace the face of the planet. Ronnie was the Savior to this guy. He modeled his life after the "Reagan Revolution". He could go on for hours about what a Godsend Ronnie was to the masses of the world. It was the oddest mixture of disgusting and creepy that I have ever been in a room with. You couldn't even mention in passing something that you saw on the television or read in the newspaper because you would get something along the lines of, "If President Reagan were still in power things like that wouldn't be tolerated." I swear when Ronnie died, I could hear the wailing from 60 miles away. Just don't turn into that guy.

Ronnie wasn't the worst by a long shot. And I liked JFK too. I was in 2nd grade when he was assassinated, and I can still remember it. America turned upside down that day!!
I think I'm conservative about some issues and liberal about others. But I probably do lean more heavily on the liberal side. :D

I have been laughing at this whole conversation. I think one of our greatest presidents was Teddy Roosevelt. Maybe it's because behind every good man is a great woman. Eleanor was a great person. I liked Reagan. I'm not a big Kennedy fan like everyone else in the whole world seems to be because of the Bay of Pigs thing and I really think he had a lot to do with Marilyn Monroe's death. (Yes, I do buy into that conspiracy theory.)

Ok this is a little bit that I found!
Trudeau was prime minister of Canada for nearly 16 years beginning in 1968. A professor before jumping into politics with the Liberal party, Trudeau entered office with a brainy charisma and youthful energy which seemed to match the changing mood of the 1960s. (His popularity was dubbed "Trudeaumania" in an echo of "Beatlemania (http://www.who2.com/thebeatles.html).") He remained prime minister until 1984, save for a 10-month period in 1979-80 when he was replaced by Progressive Conservative leader Joe Clark. Among his many initiatives as prime minister, Trudeau was particularly known for leading the fight against the separatist movement in Quebec. He also gained a reputation as an eligible bachelor, dating high-profile women including Barbra Streisand (http://www.who2.com/barbrastreisand.html) and Bianca Jagger (http://www.who2.com/biancajagger.html). In 1971 he wed 22-year-old Margaret Sinclair, a famous marriage which led to an equally famous separation six years later; the couple were finally divorced in 1984. In 1999 journalists named Trudeau the top Canadian newsmaker of the 20th century. At Trudeau's 2000 funeral his son Justin gave a heartfelt eulogy which became famous throughout Canada.
(And in 1998, Trudeau's son was killed in an avalanche in the mountains.)
I also found this little bit of info...seems he wasn't popular in the States lol.
rudeau was interested in Marxist (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=1ac7vvov83url?tname=marxism&sbid=lc05b) ideas in the 1940s. In the 1950s and early 1960s, he was a supporter of the social democratic (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=1ac7vvov83url?tname=social-democracy-1&sbid=lc05b) Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=1ac7vvov83url?tname=co-operative-commonwealth-federation&sbid=lc05b) party — which became the New Democratic Party (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=1ac7vvov83url?tname=new-democratic-party&sbid=lc05b). During the 1950s, he was blacklisted (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=1ac7vvov83url?tname=blacklist&sbid=lc05b) by the United States and prevented from entering that country because of a visit to a conference in Moscow (where he was briefly arrested for throwing a snowball at a statue of Stalin (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=1ac7vvov83url?tname=josef-stalin&sbid=lc05b)) and because he subscribed to a number of leftist publications. Trudeau later appealed the ban, and it was rescinded.

Today in a lot of societies in Asia and Africa it is still common for cousins to marry. It is especially true if the families have money or property at stake. This way it stays with the family.
Little known fact, Prince Charles and Princess Diana were distant cousins.

Theodore Roosevelt= Officer in the Spanish American War "leading" the Rough Riders, entered the US into Global politics to a higher degree "Speak softly but carry a big stick.", broke up many mojor trusts in the American economic system henceforth starting an end to true form capitalism in the US, started the Panama canal, added a correllary to the Monroe doctorine making it known tot he world the the US would handle any issues dealing with Latin America (hence ending a hold on the colonial system there by European nations), started conservation movements in America to preserve land, and was the namesake of the "Teddy" Bear.
