well, that uglier than satan cake turned out good, but the icing was a little much lol....

so i'm going to try the inspiration for my wedding cake....and i even remembered to separate the yolks :winktongue:

buuuuuuut, does anyone know anything about using the icing bags? i bought one, and the tips, and my mom said that with hers, you just stick the tip in the bottom(tip) of the bag, add icing, and go.....well i havent tried it yet, and i'm kind of worried:bbredface:

also, i am trying to make black icing, and i have the vanilla, and black and classic white icing....but how do i know if i have enough black? do i just keep adding till it's the shade i want, or what? if nothing else, JIC for a backup, i bought black cupcake icing, the can with 4 tips lol.....

instead of feathers, i'm doing pearl floral pins, and i have a pearl "P" for our last name ;)

and i have black beads i'm going to place in certain spots, rather then the heart designs.....fh calls me martha now, just like the guy on here who's wearing the wedding gown lol...

here is a few inspirations lol

here's my inspiration....
#1-it won't be EXACTLY like this, and it'll only be a 2-tier rectangle, with a 4x4 square on top(i have 3 diff sized rectangle pans)...

#2-without the bow

#3-just the top 3 layers.....

1st cake came out of the oven nicely!

now, i have my small 2"x8"x6" pan, and my bread pan in there....i'm using the bread pan, to make my 2 squares that'll be put on top of each other, on the top ;)

feel free to move, this, just tell me where you put it lol

Hi!

You know, I just spent a little time in a cake decorating course. For the icing bags, you need:

- Plastic coupler.
- Your metal tip.
- I hiiiiighly suggest the cheap, disposable plastic bags. No waste, and you can see what's going on in the bag.

Check this out for help:

And if you want to make black icing....START WITH CHOCOLATE!!! Get a small tub of chocolate icing, and try experimenting. Put a little in a cup and try it. Mix in the black coloring with a toothpick (or in my case, 4), and add a TINY amount of warm water so it's easier to stir and mix. Good luck! :D

I just use gallon sized ziplock bags, cut the corner off and shove my tip in there. It works wonders and when your done take the tip out and throw the rest away.

Me too :grinhappy:

I love the 2nd inspiration pic!

I have always wanted to make pretty cakes; I never tried to use the bags with the tips. There is a cake decorating tip on my cookie press (which I never have gotten good at using), but I never figured out how to make that work either.

Well most of the cakes I make are from a box, so it is not hard ;)

ohhh, ohhh
yes it is ;)
and my FAVORITE lol

i think what i'm going to have to do, is avoid the wedding cost of it, by having the white cake made. in place of the flowers only, we bought these black "diamonds", and i'm going to buy the little black rosettes similar to those pictured, but, we aren't going to have a cake topper, idk yet.....he likes it, i like it....we don't want fondant, so i'm going to see about it being just vanilla, over a chocolate cake ;)

the grooms cake will be red velvet with cream cheese icing, and that'll have our pearl "P" on it.....

on the icing bags........did you buy the coupler and ring, or just tips?

when you fill the bags, only fill them 2/3 full...........after the icing is in them, twist the top a few times to secure the icing, then place your hand at the top of the twist, this prevents the icing from squeezing back out the top of the bag

as for the black icing, be VERY careful with this..............black tint is horribly bitter tasting

did you buy paste or powder color?

if you buy at a cake decorating place, they do sell tasteless black tint

fyi, it gets blacker as it sets.........a LOT blacker
