Since we were talking about baby names recently, I thought it would be interesting to tell everybody what your name means. And what's the story behind why your Mother gave it to you?
Karen: Pure, virginal (very true, lol)
My Mother has told me that there really is no clever reason why she named me Karen, other than she just liked the name at the time (1956). And can I say that I find it amazing that people are still naming their little girls, Karen. :p

I think we may have done something like this before *scratching head* ...
My first name is Brandi - (from one of those baby name/meanings sites) my spelling means "Beacon of light" other spellings mean "Sweet Nectar" or "After dinner drink" My middle name is Leigh which means "meadow"
My parents mentioned the 'Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)' song from the early 70's as well as some doll that was out then with the same name. But Mom wanted to spell it different and went with the 'i' instead of the 'y'
My DH's first name is Emmette - I couldn't find that spelling but other spellings I found meant "Truth" (his middle name means truth also), "Hard/Strong worker"

Jennifer
From a Cornish form of the Welsh name Gwenhwyfar (see GUINEVERE). This name has been popular only since the beginning of the 20th century, when it was featured in George Bernard Shaw's play 'The Doctor's Dilemma'.
It's Welish in origin and means white wave, white spirit, white cheeked.
Jennifer is a very popular female first name, ranking 6 out of 4275 for females of all ages in the 1990 U.S. Census. Jennifer is a common surname, ranking 40381 out of 88799 for people of all ages in the 1990 U.S. Census.
The thing i have really noticed is how differntly some people pronounce my name. It should be Jenn-if-er but alot of people say jenn-A-fer or Jenn-E-fer. It's very strange.

I loved that song, "Brandy, you're a fine girl, what a good wife you would be, but my life, my lover, my lady, is the sea." Sorry. LOL!! It was so sad. Poor Brandy! :( LOL! That came out when I was 16 years old, and I liked the name enough at the time to name my little girl that too. :)

I never knew that Jennifer came from Guinevere. Makes perfect sense though. That is so interesting. I also didn't know about the different pronunciations. I think I say it like Jenn-a-fer. I'll have to consciously think about it when I say it from now on. Thanks, Jenn!

Lacey, a 2-syllable girl's name of Greek/French origin, means: Cheerful; a braid.
Actually, up until recently, Lacy (Lacey) was a boys name. I don't know any female Lacey's older than I am but I know a few male Lacey's older than me. My mom picked it out of a VC Andrews novel she read as a teenager. But considering my other name that she was considering was Rainbow, I can't complain.
Sean, a 1-syllable unisex name of Hebrew/Irish origin, means: God is gracious
Sean's mother named him after Sean Connery.

I had no idea that Lacey could be a male name, it sounds so feminine to me. I love the name Sean too. I've always loved Sean Connery! LOL!

I thought for fun I'd do my 'furkids' names too ...
Roxy - Pet form of ROXANA (English, Spanish, Romanian)
Latin form of a Persian name meaning "dawn".
Enzo - (Italian)
The meaning of this name is uncertain. It could be an old Italian form of HEINZ; (Pet form of HEINRICH which is a German form of HENRY) it could derive from Germanic ent "giant"; or it could be a short form of names ending in enzo, such as VINCENZO (Italian form of VINCENT. From the Roman name Vincentius, which was from Latin vincere "to conquer".)
I found this info on this site - http://www.behindthename.com :)

The girl's name Shawna is pronounced shawn-NA. It is of English origin. Feminine variant of Sean (Irish, Gaelic) "the Lord is gracious." The name is very much favored as a prefix in blends with various name endings.
Most times I meet woman named Shauna spelt with a u, it is not too often that I meet someone named Shawna with a w. lol. Funny how that works!!

Kacie-variant of Casey.
Casey-From an Irish surname which was derived from Ó Cathasaigh meaning "descendent of Cathasaigh". The name Cathasaigh means "vigilant" in Gaelic. Casey also serves as a form of Cass which is short for Cassandra.
I've also heard that Kacie comes from the name Acacia (A-Kay-Sha). From the name of a type of tree, ultimately deriving from Greek ακη (http://www.behindthename.com/support/transcribe.php?type=GR&target=akh) (ake) "thorn, point".

Elizabeth = consecrated to God
Elizabeth = mother of John the Baptist
My mother wanted to name me Penelope and call me Penny. Ummmm so glad that my father suggested Elizabeth! (my apologies if I have offended any Penelope's out there) Elizabeth is a very popular middle name.
Get this, my mother thought my name couldn't be shortened!

Oh yeah, I forgot to add why I was named Kacie. My mom wanted a name that started with a K because my dad's name is Kenneth. His middle name is Ray and she wanted to name me Kacie Rae, but he did not like that. I think that would be cute, but instead I'm Kacie Lea.

Angel-From the medieval Latin masculine name Angelus which was derived from the name of the heavenly creature (itself derived from the Greek word αγγελος (angelos) meaning "messenger").
Also, Angel-Heavenly Messenger
Joel-From the Hebrew name יוֹאֵל (Yo'el) meaning "YAHWEH is God". Joel was a minor prophet in the Old Testament, the author of the Book of Joel.
Also, Joel-God is God
Joel's mom was going to name him Treasure had he been a girl...needless to say...we are all happy that he was a boy!!!
My mom was going to name me Elizabeth Ann, which I am happy that she didn't, no offense Elizabeth, and then she was gonna name my sister that, but since she was born on Valentine's Day, her name is Valerie. So, my sister was going to name her son that, if he had been a girl, and I was going to call her Ellie-I just thought that I would share another option for shortening Elizabeth.
Well, anyways the story behind my name is kinda crazy. My mom was all set to name me Elizabeth Ann, and then my "biological" father said that his little girl was going to be his little "Angel", and since he was incarcerated when I was born, my mom named me Angel (don't ask me where the reasoning was behind that)..and then she picked the middle name Marie...because she felt that it sounded the best!!!

Yeah, I think that was the show....so stupid how they came up with his name....Yeah, I wish my name was Katherine instead of just Katie....I'm not a big fan of Katie....I like Katherine a lot better. Oh, well. I think its funny though because my sister's name is Jenny not Jennifer...but yet my brothers name is Andrew not Andy....why not just give us all the shortened version?

Isn't that funny how parents do that? My sister's name is Pamela Jo, but we have always called her Jody. I have never in my life called my sister Pamela, but that's her name. LOL!

I also forgot to mention why I was named the way I was.Lol.
My mom tells me this story and laughs. They were just sitting down to supper and having pork chops when the contractions started. Mom wanted to finish her supper and dad wanted to go to the hospital, so they took my brother to the neighbors and headed off to the hospital. At 8:15 that night I entered the world the wrong way and I still hear that story too! (though mom doesn't laugh at that part that's for sure!) Well mom and dad couldn't agree on what to call me. Dad wanted to call me Cassandra, Mom wanted to call me Roxanne. (so I'd share the same name as Brandi's dog if my dad hadn't been so adamant and said NO!! lol Thanks daddy!! :) No offense Brandi, but I don't want to be called Roxy, fits your dog but not me!! lol) So they had to meet in the middle some where. They some how got to Shawna and added Leanne in there too. It's funny because I guess a couple years later, mom and dad had friends who named their daughter Leanne Shawna. Ha ha! :)
Hey Ladies,
I like this type of thread. It is interesting to see what peoples names mean.
Kelly-(Unisex - Celtic/Gaelic)-Warrior/Defender
There are probably more meanings, however, this is the first one i came up with. I am named after a construction company.
Nice huh!

My parents neighbores when i was little had a little girl about a month after i was born and they named her Jennifer Lynn (i'm Jennifer Lee) Then when they had their son a couple months after my brother was born they named him David James. My brothers name was James David, but its a tradition on my dad's side of the family for the son to go by their middle name so we called him David as well. It was very strange. My mom has always been annoyed by it.
