So we went camping this weekend in the high desert. It was about 90* during the day. I realized on Saturday that my hands were a little swollen - and didn't think much of it. My girl friends told me to take my ring off because my hands were obviously swollen - but I couldn't get it off. So this morning I woke up with my hands throbbing. I couldn't get my ring off when I got up, so I waited till I got to work and used soap and cold water. FINALLY with a lot of PAIN I got my ring off. My fingers ache SO BAD on both hands. I feel like I've been squeezing those exercising grip thingys for days. My fingers hurt no matter what I do with them. And they're still swollen.

Anyone ever have this happen? I didn't really do anything with my hands this weekend - cept wield a beer and click the camera. I did a lot of walking, but my hands hurt worse than my legs do.

I wish I had some better news for you, but I have no idea what's going on!

All I can think is that ibuprofen and ice are helpful when you're swollen in general... could it be that you're retaining water in your hands for some reason? No new meds or anything? Did you touch something poisonous?!

Good luck figuring it out! I hope they go back to normal soon!

yeah i really dont know either but i 2nd the could u have touched something u were allergic to or was poisonous?

I would use cold compress and elevate them to see if it helps....

i'd say if it doesn't go away soon or gets worse go to the doctor!

Thank you for your responses!

I'm pretty sure I didn't touch anything I'm allergic to. I will try the ice thing - can't have ibuprophen because of my heartburn.

Haven't tried anything new lately... and Matt thinks it's because I got somewhat dehydrated on Friday. Guess I'll give it some time and drink a lot of water. It just ticks me off that they're so sore!

My first thought is something bit you or you touched something that caused this reaction.

Hope it gets better soon, if not I would go to the Dr.

Edit: Did you do a lot of walking?

Could it be some sort of arthritis?

I didn't check the link, but it looks like Brandi mentioned this. If you did a lot of walking, you might have gotten "hikers hands" where the combination of your hands being below your heart and your electrolytes getting off balance due to the exercise causes your fingers to swell. If that's what it is, it should go away on its own, drink lots of water and put your hands above your heart when you are able to. I don't know what else it could be though--hopefully nothing serious!

I'm such a dork.

They are swollen - and I believe that's from walking so much, in the heat, up and down hills all weekend long.

However, I totally forgot that I mowed the lawn yesterday. We have a brand new lawn mower that Matt used to run over a steel vise (on accident). That in turn, bent the crankshaft which makes the mower shake terribly. Now, we're not just talking a vibration, but a hard shake. I remember my hands hurting almost to the point of tears when I was mowing yesterday. I think that's why they hurt so bad. I can't believe I forgot about that. *doh*

Thank you Brandi for looking that up - I do believe that's part of my problem.

Haha! I don't mean to laugh, but it's just so funny when you totally forget something you did that makes you hurt. It happens to me all the time!

Glad you at least have a reason for it now!

So I realized yesterday morning when my shoes wouldn't go on all the way - that my feet are MAJOR swollen, and my hands are still swollen, they just don't hurt as much.

I emailed my doc and she said drink Gatorade and then go in and see her in 3 days if it's not gone back down.

I went to the doc yesterday. The swelling has gone down quite a bit on my feet, but my hands are still a bit swollen - or just plain fat, but who knows. My feet are bruised where they were swollen. She ran a ton of blood tests and a pregnancy test and they all came out normal/negative. So, she recommended I just take it easy for awhile.

I told her I was headed back to NV for another trip this weekend and she recommended I don't - but there's no getting out of it - I'm going. So we decided I had probably been dehydrated, and I got doctor's orders to drink a lot of gatorade. So we'll see if it was an elevation issue, heat issue, or dehydration issue. I'm not going to be dehydrated this weekend, it's not going to be hot like it was last time, and the elevation will remain the same :D

I have kankles again - 4 days after getting back from Moonrocks. Could still be related - we'll know in the next month or so cuz I won't be heading that way for awhile....
