Okay, so the one and only thing my future inlaws are paying for that is wedding related is the rehearsal dinner. So, months ago, FMIL asked me what kind of food I wanted for the rehearsal dinner. I said Italian. The reason that I said Italian was that I know everyone who will be at the rehearsal dinner will eat Italian food. So today, FMIL informed me that she finally booked a restaurant for the rehearsal dinner. Don't ask me why she waited until less than 2 weeks before the wedding to book the place. So I asked her which restaurant. It's a local steak house. Evidentally, she wasn't in the mood for Italian food. I guess this is all about her. Anyway, I asked what this steak house had in the way of vegetarian options because one of my bridesmaids is a vegetarian. Oh, not to worry, she said, they have baked haddock. If I could kill her over the phone... Anyway, I had to explain that while some vegetarians do eat fish, my friend doesn't eat anything with eyes.
Why couldn't she just book an Italian restaurant so my friend could order something along the lines of pasta or eggplant parmagian?

There is another bride that just posted a story almost identical to this!

Maybe you can talk to your bridesmaid and explain the situation so that she's aware (especially if you're afraid she might pitch a fit), and perhaps call the restaurant and ask what they have that's vegetarian. More and more places are being accomodating to vegetarians. My cousin had the same problem at a family dinner to a steak/seafood restaurant and was able to get a seafood pasta with the seafood on the side so her FH could eat it and she still had a vegetarian dinner. At a steakhouse I would think she could at least get a good salad and a baked potato or something along those lines.

While it wasn't nice of FMIL to ask you what kind of food you wanted and then do it her own way, I agree with Sandy. A lot of steakhouses have some good salads or even some pasta. I know one I went to recently had some great torillini!

I totally understand your frustration on this. I have a list of things I won't eat and sometimes I end up in places that don't really accomodate my needs. It stinks, but I usually order a salad and a baked potato in these situations and end up with more than enough to eat. Sadly, because your FMIL is throwing this dinner, I think she has the final say on where you go...but I don't understand why she feels compelled to spite you all either!

I can see you being annoyed, especially since FMIL asked you and then went to opposite direction. But like others have said, I'm sure your bridesmaid will be able to find something to eat. I'm not one for steak myself and often times avoid meat altogether and never seem to have a problem finding something. Maybe just give her a heads up on the type of restaurant it is if she's not familiar with it.
