I have only been to one wedding where they actually had a DJ to handle the music, the others just picked songs and had someone assigned to keep it going. I know it'd be cheaper to pick the songs and just play them on a cd player. It isn't going to be a huge wedding, but I'd still like to have music and I want the Bride and Groom dance and the Father/Daughter dance if my dad agrees to it lol. But if I did use a DJ if somebody requested a song they'd be able to play it. That way everybody gets a chance to hear music they like....just not sure if that's enough to spend the money on having a DJ. Also, is there a standard wedding march or are there hundreds of different versions? lol

How technologically savvy are you?

You can use Windows Media Player to set up a playlist, and get a friend to click when necessary if you play from a laptop. If someone requests a song and you have it, then go for it.

I'm going to use my laptop with a terabyte external hard drive hooked up by an e-sata cable (so the comp reads it like an internal) and figure it out like that.

You'll probably have to decide the music either way, but it is certainly one way of doing it. Also, you'd have to provide your own equipment if the venue does not have one.

If you can fit it into your budget, I would get a DJ. If you are on a really tight budget, then I am sure you can work something out to still have music of some sort there.

:goodluck:

Also, if you want people to be able to request songs, you can do that with a wedding website. A lot of them have sections where guests can leave these sorts of requests, and you can just collect those songs and make sure that you have them in your playlist. Win win!

Yep, I am on a fairly tight budget. I really want a photographer there and man they are expensive...lol. So I have to cut corners on other things. I am pretty smart when it comes to music and my brother has an awesome stereo that should work great but we'd still set everything up to make sure it would work.
I never even thought of having it on a website where guests can request songs in advance...that's really neat and I'll definitely do that.

We are having a DJ. It just so happens that one of my best friends is one of the best DJ's in our town, so he gave me a pretty good deal. I'm super excited to see how it's going to turn out!! :)
If it weren't for getting a deal, we probably wouldn't have been able to work it into our budget.

We're having a DJ. Why? Because I don't feel like dealing with the day of the wedding. Knowing that the music is being played, songs that are requested are played and nothing could go wrong with hookups, or if it does, they've seen it all before, is priceless to me.

If you can find one in your budget, I'd definitely recommend a DJ for your reception. They really keep the evening moving forward, and they're often the only way your guests know what is going on with you. DJs will make announcements like, "The bride and groom will now cut the cake!" or "Father/Daughter dance is taking place right now" so your guests know where to look if they want to partake in your wedding events.

If it's between a photographer and a DJ, I might have to choose photographer though.

Hopefully you can find both in your budget! Good luck!
