My fiancee and I are wondering about engament pictures. I read in one place that you can have your wedding photographer do it, but that's out of the question cause we won't know that for a while.
Have many of you done them?
What about engagment parties? we were thinking about having some friends over for a BBQ or something. Does that work? This is my first engagment so i'm truthfully lost! lol

Neither engagement parties or pictures are a must. We did both though.

The pictures are nice, especailly if you don't have a good shot of the both of you; or if you want to run an announcement in the paper. We actually hired a photographer to do our wedding and asked her to do our engagement pictures too. The pictures were so horrible when we got them back that after I got done crying, I immediately sent her a certified letter firing her. I didnn't want to run the risk of her not being able to follow directions on my wedding day. So, we had the shots redone by a very competant portrait photographer here in Pittsburgh. She did a fantastic job. Unfortunately she was unable to our wedding. However the photographer that we hired was fabulous.

As for the engagement party. We just did what you are planning. We had a gathering of our very close friends and family members. Last summer about a year before our wedding date. It was a lot of fun to have everyone togehter to celebrate our engagement. It was a very casual picnic style event at a local state park.

Amber had her wedding photographer do her engagement photos, but I don't know about an engagement party. I wonder if Amber is going to do that or has done that. I'll have to ask her that one. Anyway, her engagement photos turned out wonderful!!!

We did not do either..lack of funds were the culprit though. I wanted engagement pictures...but they just weren't in the budget!!! I really didn't care about the party aspect though!!!

We had professional engagement pictures done, but only because I went to a bridal fair in January and won them in a drawing. I don't really even like them very much and will not be using them when I put an add in the paper. I am going to have a friend with a good camera take a few shots of us for that.

As for the party, we didn't do that. We did, however, go out to eat with both sets of parents and my aunt soon after we announced our engagement. It was nice.

We didn't have an engagement party. Didn't feel like it was really nessecary for us. We did do engagement photos. They came free when we booked our photographer. We did them a month before the wedding because we wanted to wait until it was nice enough we could do them outside. I'm really glad we did because it poured on our wedding day so all our wedding photo's are inside. They brought a nice back drop and such. I'm sure they will be nice. But more formal then i was really hoping for i think.

We had engagement pictures taken by a friend of ours earlier on in the engagement. And now that its closer to the wedding and we have our photog. picked out, we had engagement pictures taken with her as well.

As for engagement party, we didn't do anything like that because its not really common in our area.

We didn't do engagement pics or a party.

We started out talking about having engagement pictures done, since Joe and I don't have a ton of pictures of us together. My father took a picture of us in front of their Christmas tree on Christmas morning, right after we told them we were engaged (about a 1/2 hour after he asked me) and the smile on Joe's face is absolutely priceless! I knew that he wouldn't smile like that again for a posed picture, so we used that picture as our engagement picture and gave copies to our family members.

We have not done either so far. I like your party idea though. Nice and simple. you could even do it over say Labor Day since that's a popular picnic time. As for engagement pictures, we are still thinking on it. The Walmart here has a picture studio and I know a lot of people who have gotten nice pitctures there for a good price. We are still thinking maybe this month of going and getting a couple pictures done. I think there is really only 1 picture of my FH and I together in existance!

Congratulation of your engagement and welcome to OneWed!

Thank you guys so much for the info!!! A lot of my friends have moved out of town (like 4 hours away) so if they coem down for a weekend i think we might have a very very very mini BBQ. We have the pool in the backyard and everyone seems to find themselves ehre on hot days anyway lol. I'm not going to ask for anyone to bring ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!! I'll take care of whatever, but i don't think it's gonna eb anything overly planned. Probably just one of our usual sumemr days and we'll just have somethign to talk about lol.

I'm gonna go and see the soon to be hubby's parents soon and drop the questiont o them, as they think that we're using there money (we're not!!!) But just to humour them lol
Thanks guys!!!
PS... I'm really digging it here. I told my fiancee about this site and he's happy, cause i don't have to bug him now lol

LOL, I think this is a great thing for any bride. IMO, people get tired of hearing the bride talk about the wedding so much. We never get tired of it here! Plus we talk about so much more then just that. I will talk to Steve about my "friends from the web" all the time. He actually can be seen sitting next to me at times, reading over my shoulder!
Glad your loving the site!
