I thought that the depo shot would be a good option for me. I had been on the pill since I was about 15. I started on the pill for cramps, which I was rarely getting any more, I decided to try something that wasn't as much as a daily hassle.

When I took the first shot I expected my body would need some adjusting and I would have an irregular period for a while. The doctor said that after the 3rd shot most people no longer have a period. So I had been waiting until I got to my 3rd shot to see if anything would change. It's been about 6 months since my first shot, and I just had my 3rd shot. Of those 6 months I have had a light period for about 4 months.

Has anyone had an experience like this? My FH wants me to call the dr and see if this is normal, but I think I just need to wait this out.

My sister was on the shot for a while; I know she said she didn't have a period while on it and took a while to get it back when she got off it. I don't know how long it took to get to that point though.

:goodluck:

ya it's suppose to stop your period, but my problem has been just the opposite. I have had my period for 4 months, not like a week on and 3 week off, like 4 months straight! Well actually, 3 months straight, (2nd shot) 2 months off, and then I've had it for the last 5 weeks. I just had my 3rd shot last week. I dunno if it's normal for it to take this long to stop the period.

I would call your Dr and ask if this is a normal side affect or something that needs to be checked out.

You should discuss it with your doctor if it concerns you.

When I first started the shot, I had spotting off and on the first 3 months, and I can't remember if it was my 2nd shot or my 3rd one, but I had my period for 3 months straight. It sucked!! But then when I went in after the 3 months for my shot again, it went away and I haven't had any problems like that since.

The weird thing about the shot is that the side effects can be completely opposite from one person to the next. One person might have their period all the time, another might not have a period at all. One person might have a reduced sex drive, another might have an increased sex drive.

I was on the shot for a few years and after the first month, I never had a period. That is actually the reason I stopped taking it, I didn't think it was good for my future reproductive health to not have a period for 2 years. It took forever for me to have normal cycles again and now I refuse to use any type of birth control.

I would def. call the Dr. if you've been having your period for such an extended amount of time. That doesn't seem like something that should be happening.
