So I have been getting tons of bug bites lately and they seem something more than the typical mosquitto bites.
DH said today he thinks it might be chiggers :bbeek: I looked up some pics online and can't really tell. What do you guys think; anyone seen anything like this before and know what it is?

first thing I thought of, becasue I know you have dogs, is fleas
but they are way too big for fleas
what about ticks???????
I dunno............
are you getting bit inside or outside?

We have never had a problem with fleas; I know the dogs don't have them ... yeah I think flea bites are usually smaller.
If it was ticks I would have seen one on me; plus this does not look like a typical tick bite.
I think I am getting bit outside or bringing something in from outside. I seem to notice more after being outside in the yard with the dogs. We recently got the yard cleared and put a fence in; I never spent much time outside like I have been before the fence.
Doing more research I have found that chigger bites usually produce blisters, so I really don't know. Maybe just a different kind of mosquito?
ya, flea bites are small
they're strange
are they raised up?

Doesn't look like chiggers to me. Only one of them seem to have a bite bump. The others look like a allergic reaction. But I'm no expert.

Doing more research yesterday and since I got a better look at one of the little buggers that bit me again. I think the mosquitoes we have are tiger mosquitoes.

Apparently they are more active during the day than other species and are harder to git rid of. They feed faster too so you usually miss when you try to swat at them.
A couple of the bite spots have gotten darker and they itch so bad. Last night the itch was so bad it woke me up and I couldn't get back to sleep for a while.
I can still feel it now, but it is not as bad as it was. I need to take a shower and I am afraid to shave my legs for fear it will make the itch worse again.
I have tried all sorts of itch relief stuff; I got two different kinds of anti-itch cream from the store, tried tea tree oil, tried Tigar balm, and baking soda paste. They all seem to work at first, but only last a few minutes.
I guess I am gonna look for other ideas ... I will be so glad when these bites go away!
I am going to get some sort of bug spray asap and wear pants and long sleeves when I go out in the mean time. I want to get something to keep bugs out of the yard too.
OMG< you should have put up a warning, wow
that pic just about made me cry.............holy cow.........I'm so glad I don't live where those things are
I'm not normally afraid of bugs, but that creeped me out, I think I'd scream if he landed on me

They are still no bigger than regular mosquitoes (I am sure the picture was enlarged), just look different. Still creepy non the less; sorry ;)
it's ok
I'll just have nightmares tonight of this giant tiger mosquito eating me. lol

So I had heard that Avon Skin So Soft bath oil was good as a bug repellent; thanks to my sister, I found a local Avon store (who knew they had stores?!) and went to get some ... and it was on sale!
I had heard some say using it straight as a spray was the way to go and some said to mix it half and half with alcohol, so I tried both. Of course they say it only lasts about an hour at the most. I did see a couple of mosquitoes, but I didn't notice any new bites, so maybe it does work. And it smells nice and feels good on your skin too :)
I also got some Benadryl anti-itch gel and that seems to have taken the edge off the itch of the bites I had. Hopefully I won't be woken up with crazy itch tonight.

when we used to go camping, to keep sand flies and mozzies off we used a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of Dettol and baby oil. Not sure if you have dettol over there but it does work very well and lasts a long time cos of the oil.

Yeah; funny thing was that I was talking to DH about wanting to order the stuff and he was like "Do they have stores?" I was all like "No, they come to your house or you order online" LOL Then I talked to my sister about it cause I know she has a friend that sells Avon and she told me about the store they have not far from here. So apparently their are a few stores ;)
