We had a buffet. Hors o'deurves included fruit and veggie bouquets, crackers, dips, and cheeses, hot sausages, and I'm not sure what else. We didn't really partake much in the planning of all of the hors o'deurves. Dinner was country style chicken, meatballs, potato wedges (fondly called Jojos in this area), green bean almondine, carrots, pasta salad, and rolls. It wasn't anything really fancy, but I was starving so it all tasted good to me! Even though I didn't get to eat very much in the end anyways.
We didn't have a bar or any alcohol, as it wasn't allowed. We toasted with St. Julian's Sparkling White Grape Juice. We also had plenty of soda, coffee, and tea, and we had a punch that was TERRIFIC! When I planned the punch, I planned just lemonade with some frozen strawberries for flavor and to keep it cool. Well, when the caterer made the punch, they threw in sprite too and it was INCREDIBLE! Everyone loved it and barely touched anything else, so we had a lot of leftovers to bring home of that stuff! :)
By the way, the punch was REALLY cheap! I picked up large bags of country time at GFS for about $6 a piece, a HUGE jug of frozen strawberries for $6 and then the sprite! Total, I think two full bowls of punch (very LARGE bowl) cost about $15!

For Hors o'deurves we decided to go with a crudite display w/ an assortment of veggies, crackers, a bunch of different cheeses, sausage sticks, and dips, as well as beadsticks!!!
We decided to have a buffet style dinner, just so that there will be more options.
We will be having:
-seasoned top round of beef w/carver, which will be served medium-rare and well-done
-chicken fromaggio
-red-ribboned green beans
-honey belgian carrots
-julienne potatoes w/blended cheeses and rosted garlic redskins
-fresh garden salad with choice of dressings
-pasta penne w/ tomato basil sauce
-bread and butter.
We will also have an open bar, so hopefully people won't get tooo drunk or out of control..lol.
I am seriously considering a chocolate fountain though...now that I have given it some thought...I just wish that my MOH would win one!!!

Even if it didn't include regular bar/booze (beer, wine, hard liquor)? (truth be told, there is one guest in particular that we don't want to encourage)

Far be it for an QC resident to tell an Albertan how to cook beef but I have a wonderful marinade recipe that won me a Jenair oven & $500 worth of beef in one contest and a Kitchenaid blender in another. If you are interested head to recipezaar.com and do a search for recipe #67491

I let my BIL an dhis mom decide what they wanted to make as they offered to do the food as a gift to me.
Then they told me what they decided and showed me to see if I wanted any changes.
We had chips and dip and a shrimp ring and some veggies I think on the appetizer table. ANd for our buffet style meal we had Lasagna, Salad, Roll & Butter. NAd soda and coffee and a cash bar. And of course the cake.

I am not exactly sure if that is what they call themselves. I asked Matt what he thought they called themselves and he said "Sasquatchs" lol. What a silly guy!! When I lived in Ontario I remember what they called French people!! lol. I never really thought it was very nice, but I know on occasion I called a Immersion kid a french fry or frog...lol...I'm so not proud of that!! lol
I had never heard the pepsi one!! lol. That's funny! I'm gonna have to see what people from Saskatchewan call themselves! lol

That sounds so yummy! We almost always get spinach artichoke dip as an appitizer when we go out. I love the one at Red Lobster too since they add lobster to it.
