View Full Version : An Ongoing Online Proposal...

I decided to create an online proposal @ www.WillYouMarryMeKC.com (http://www.willyoumarrymekc.com). I promise it's not lame and I have a real world part as well. I want her to stumble across it some day via six-degrees-of-separation (there was actually a near miss tonight). I like the idea of fate and not knowing when it will happen (the men usually do!)
The gist of the proposal:
I really want to marry this girl whom I love! :soppy:
She has no idea about the site or my intentions!
Anyone can answer my proposal... Go ahead and try it! (http://www.willyoumarrymekc.com/eprosal/)
If you really want to marry me you must answer an identity verifying quiz to prove you are my girlfriend.
If you score high enough on the quiz you are taken to a page where you can officially accept my marriage proposal (only KC will be able to make it this far, I'm sure of it). It then sends a message to me via every email address I have.
In this way it is a double surprise. She will be surprised to find the site and I will be surprised when I receive her acceptance! When I'm at work I stare apprehensively at my inbox!
Of course, I have a backup plan. I have a romantic weekend booked  a few months from now at which time I will propose the non-internets way on one knee whether she has seen the site or not.
I'm pretty confident she'll like the online proposal because I put in a lot of effort to show just how much I love her (à la David Hasselhoff). And anyways, there are a lot of people turning to the web for this kind of thing. I have a listing of "geeky" marriage proposals (http://www.willyoumarrymekc.com/geeky-proposals/).
So, this is Part 1 of my story. I suppose after she says "yes" I'll return and add Part 2.
My god, I might be engaged right now! :bbeek:

I saw something sort of like this a while back; someone was trying to find a long lost girl friend or something. But in this case I am not sure I get it ...
So you are actually in an everyday relationship with this KC in real life? Instead of actually proposing in person you have had this website up for nearly a year (from the site; "Days up - 251"), just hoping she will stumble upon it somehow?
I like the idea of the online thing, and you surely have put a lot of work into it, but why wait so long? Why wouldn't you drop hints or tell her friends and family and make sure she found the site? How do you keep it all inside?

I think the other site you're talking about was the guy in New York who saw a girl on the subway and wanted to find her again (the site here (http://www.nygirlofmydreams.com/)). Actually, there's a whole section on Kijiji and I'm sure elsewhere of people missing opportunities at meeting someone and then trying to find them retroactively.
And yep, I'm with KC right now and every time I see her I almost crack. But don't worry because I intend to propose a couple days before our anniversary in person with a romantic getaway. The day has special meaning. For now, why not have some fun and see if fate or serendipity actually has a hand in romance. I'm not the biggest believer in fate so I have had to help it along, but I have time so I'll hold off sending the link to her best friend or sister.
You would freak out if you knew I registered the domain in 1992! :bbwink:

dear god, were you with KC in 1992? or have you known her that long?!
i think it's neat...hahaha, it'd be a little backfire if she finds the site, reads through it, and doesnt answer, instead waits for the "real" proposal! not in a bad way, but maybe she's already found it, and is making YOU sweat it out some more!
i think it's neat and creative...of course, my FH would hide the link somewhere in a folder called "private"(knowing i'd snoop lol), and he'd rename it p*rn or some cr@p lol.....then he'd know for SURE i'd go to the site(ok, yes, i'm just as perverted as the average man i suppose)
haha, i scored 16.8%.....well, i think it's neat!

Hahaha! My girlfriend is a big snoop as well. It's actually been really hard hiding the version of the site that I have on my hard drive. She thinks I'm amassing naughty pictures or something because I won't let her log-in under my account.
And 16.8%, not bad at all! :)

Its fun! You know, its a great story. In one way, it would be neat if this happened and she found the site, but in another, that moment face to face is something that will be very special too. You have some serious patience.. Most guys cant do keep in their proposal plans for more then one week and us girls wind up finding out via their "hints" haha good luck

Haha, how neat! 0% for me. I guess my fiance and KC will both be happy to hear that! :) Good luck!

I have a romantic weekend planned later on in the summer so I can get down on one knee for her, but the online thing just excites me so much with the thought of not knowing when she might see it. I'm putting all my trust in viral word-of-mouth I guess, but at the very worst I can do it in person and we can have a laugh. If only some journalist would pick this up!
I think I'll email Ellen DeGeneres again! ;)
I was considering getting a giant bus ad that said "Will you marry me KC? dot com" or something...
I was a bit shocked to see that someone scored 33% (http://www.willyoumarrymekc.com/status/). My heart skipped a beat! The best thing is, my girlfriend, who may only have the nickname KC, will for sure score 100%!
Maybe I should release a hint each week on the website? Like her hair is brown?

If I had found out that my husband had technically proposed to me nearly a year before he actually did but kept it from me until I snooped long enough to find it (which I never would) I think I would have been PO'ed! haha :)
Good luck to you!

For now, why not have some fun and see if fate or serendipity actually has a hand in romance.
I am hoping serendipity will come in to play :)
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Hahaha! gwenshack and WebLady, my staunchest critics! :)
I always had a finish line in sight when I wanted to propose, but while I wait for the special date, why not tempt fate? I also had to put a damper on plans due to other announcements in the family (i..e, other engagements). I didn't want to steal anyone's thunder! :chimp:
I hope she won't be angry, probably just relieved I finally popped the darn question!

I really don't have anything against all this; it is a cute site and I think the idea of it is great. I just don't get how you can keep such a secret for this long. That is what I'd be upset (just for a minute) about.
If I was doing something like this I'd be dropping all kind of hints ;)

What can I say! I can keep a secret I guess. :)
Some random person added my proposal site to Reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/reddit.com/comments/8qc1b/will_you_marry_me_kc/). Now, I just need thousands of people to vote it up. Ha ha! Fat chance! But at least there's progress being made and in one day ~300 people answered the proposal! I stayed up until 3am thinking the next one would be KC!
Hopefully KC will be too happy that we're engaged to consider the fact that I have been keeping it a secret for a very long time. I'm hoping it just shows that I knew from very early on that I loved her and wanted to spend my life with her (and make babies also!).

This was on the Savvy Blog today -
Are you KC? Help a bride find her online marriage proposal! (http://www.onewed.com/blog/savvy-scoop/2009/06/08/are-you-kc-help-bride-find-her-online-marriage-proposal)

Really funny. I think you need to be dropping stronger hints. :P

Well, it looks like the waiting is over. After 290 days of insanity-inducing, fate-tempting, white-knuckled terror my girlfriend has become my fiancée. I'll add more of a story when real life settles down, but for now I have the short story (http://www.willyoumarrymekc.com/news/).
Thanks to everyone for all the support! Ma fiancée (it does have a nice ring) has already picked out a wedding cake, the wedding colors, a florist, and her wedding party! And it's only been a week. Yikes! Maybe I did make her wait too long!! :)

Congrats! I'm glad she finally found the website. I got everyone I knew on reddit to try and vote it up, but apparently that approach didn't work hehe.
Can't wait for the full story! Be sure to let us know about the upcoming wedding plans!
