Holy **** I can't believe we did it. We FINALLY have a house!! We've been renting an apartment for the last 4 years.. it's gone by SOOO fast. And we were going to wait until after the wedding to buy to lessen the stress.. but it's going to be SO nice coming home as a married couple to our OWN HOUSE!!!
It's really cute, though it needs some TLC. I want to post pictures, but I'm going to wait until after we get in and spruce it up a bit so that I can do before/after pics :)
It's a 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath ranch.. hardwood floors everywhere except kitchen/diningroom which has brand new tile (really pretty!). Full basement which is fully finished into a grand room (livingroom), two conjoined work rooms (which FH loves) and laundry room. Has a sunroom and a really big backyard (though we need to take some trees down). The outside of the house has no curb appeal whatsoever, but it's nothing a little paint and flowers can't handle!!!!
I'm just SOOOOOOOO excited, but the next 2 months (moving out of apartment, into house, then wedding) will be CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATS!!! I hope you guys have a smooth closing process! The house we bought in March, has no curb appeal either! So, I can definitely relate! Its fun doing work in the house too, it really makes the house your own!!!

Lol, the perk is that you will have a really outstanding difference once the house is painted and yard is lanscaped, etc. I'm SO excited to get started!!
Our lease is up at the end of May, and closing isn't until June 15th, so we're going to try and see if we can get in two weeks early. Everything so far is moving fast (we made the offer 2 days ago, and already we have all papers signed, attorney hired, and inspection lined up). I just can't wait to get in!!
Things we need to do in the next couple of years:
Paint the exterior (it's wood siding) and interior right away
Landscape the front of the yard
Get 1/2 of trees (about 7) removed from the backyard and bring grass in
Remove old patio in the back and build a deck
Update the kitchen (we need a refrigerator right away. After a while, we're going to upate the rest of the appliances, get new countertop and extend the cabinets out into the diningroom just a little to create a bar with two stools
Create a doorway going from the livingroom to the foyer between the kitchen and the garage (it just makes sense!)
Bring in a bigger vanity for the bathroom
Take down panneling in basement and replace with drywall (or maybe there's drywall under it?)
Replace all windows, put in sliding doors in the diningroom instead of the windows that are there now
Put in fence in backyard so that we can get a doggie!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ugh, between this and wedding stuff I'm SOOOOO EXCITED!!!!!!!!

So far, so good. We met with the mortgage guy again on Wednesday, and he said that we should have no problem closing early. We got an attorney, we are scheduled for an assessment next week, and the inspection is today. I can't believe we're actually doing this!!! :)
I thought I'd give in and post pictures, but can't get into flickr from work... so I'll post a link to the house!

I can't wait to spruce it up!!
There aren't any pics of the big back yard filled with trees, but in the first picture you can see the trees behind the house.... They're HUGE!!!

Teehee... we're already starting to have fun picking out house colors, both interior and exterior. I don't like that the red brick on the bottom half of the house on the outside. I'd like to paint it, along with the siding. I'm thinking either green, blue or brown, all with white trim and some sort of color shutters. I can't wait to tackle those hideous bushes, too, and plant some pretty flowers... we're going to spend like millions of dollars at Home Depot :bblol:

HD will be your new best friend, believe me!
I did just want to say one thing regarding the painting of the brick. For a little bit, FH and I were sold on painting our red brick because we didn't like it either. But after looking at some other houses with similar brick, we found a color scheme that we won't have to paint it and will be able to achieve the same look.
I also was talking to a woman I worked with, she painted her brick on her house and only a few years later, its starting to chip. Also, the ladies here at OW convinced me not to for the same reason!! :)
My suggestion, paint whatever you want, just not the brick, quite yet. If you still don't like it, you can paint the brick then. Its amazing how certain things will look with a better color scheme that works. Just my opinion though ;)
