I have been sick all week, Im suffering at work.
I thinkI have a sinus infection and cant get to the doctor yet,.
Is there anything I can do to relieve the pain?

Lots of stuff to ease the symptoms but you need to go to the doc to get the infection taken care of.

Tylenol Sinus
Hot wash cloth over your mouth and nose
humidifier
nasal spray
if your ear hurts, you can put a garlic clove in your ear. It is supposed to draw out infection, but IDK about that. It stinks to all get out, but it eases the pain.

Claritin helps clear out my sinuses. It's probably best to go to the doctor though to get antibiotics. OTC meds might give a little relief but antibiotics will fight off the infection. Sinus infections are AWFUL!

I was just going to say something along those lines. Not saying that you have it Danielle, but weren't you just in Mexico? I would go to the doctor for sure if I was you, just to rule that possibility out.

That's good! Probably just an icky virus. Those always stink too, cuz they can't really give you any antibiotics or anything.

you could irrigate ur sinuses w/a netti-pot or similar device... it's kinda gross if u actually have stuff up there but at the same time rewarding cuz u can see the bad stuff comin out :D i had to use one after i had septum surgery... there was a lot of pressure in my sinuses and it def. was a relief afterwards...

From what I hear (I could be wrong) the results take a LONG time to come back, due to the overload of people getting tested. I didn't think it was just a swab and you're done kinda thing.

that's what i know from experience....usually they treat you for the symptoms you have, waiting for flu results to come back, then they go from there.....is it really even flu season? i know it doesnt apply really for swine, but still, i'd imagine if they thought it was that bad, they'd have given you something.....and for flu, they usually give you something, if you go to a dr, not the ER.....

i've had the flu, and results were never from a nasal swab.....heck, i've never had a nasal swab

From what I heard on the news it takes awhile to get the results of the swine flu test. They have to send it out and most labs are backed up. Like Jenna said, they can't just swab you and tell you if you have it or not.

If your dr. swabbed you then I don't get why he only gave you a dr's excuse for one day. I would think he would have instructed you to stay home until the results are in at least.

Danielle, I've been sick since I got back from Mexico... It's kinda scary. My doc wasn't much help - she just said to let her know if I'm feeling better or not in a few days (that was 9 days into being sick).

However, I'm still alive and kickin. How many days have you been sick? Are you seeming to get any better or just hovering where you're at?

I've found that showers are my friend... nice HOT showers that clean out the sinuses and relieve aches and pains.

THings aren't getting better, staying where they're at. They gave me medicine for a sinud infection, which hasn't helped. I feel like nothing is helping, especially not work! Lol.
It really sucks. I need a good night sleep ( have had a hard time sleeping) but Shane's friends are comin over tonight to spend the night so I KNOW i will be up all night.
Do you suggest anything, non medicine wise, to help this?

I learned the hard way through an earache that you HAVE to blow your nose, don't keep sniffling. Even if your nose is raw and sore (like mine is because I blow it about 30x a day for the past 10+ days), you have to blow your nose. It's not good to keep the mucous inside. Sniffling and pulling it back in not only can cause an earache, it can cause headaches and you'll feel even more miserable.

That's all I got for right now. Stay warm. The cold irritates it - so I've learned! Good luck chica... hang in there!

I'd say a nice hot bath and a cup of decaffinated tea.

A bath sounds nice. Cant wait to be off work so I can do that!

And YES my nose is so sore and red from blowing it! It's begging me to stop, but then I can't breathe if I don't blow it :(

Go to a different doctor. You should be off work for longer, until the results are in from the swab. We just sent someone home today, with orders to go to the doctor and let us know if she’ll be in next week or not.
