when to send invitations?

i'm DIY'ing invites, and although i have everything i need, i havent gotten around to doing them ;)

sooo, i need a deadline ladies! i need to know when to mail them, so i can get an idea as to how long i have to do them!
although i am doing something different. i am using thick resume paper/envelopes, so they are letter sized.....but i'll have a length wise invite, a card for the directions to ceremony/reception, an rsvp card, and for those who need it, a card for lodging!

so i am just trying to figure out when to send them?!

Invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding date.

I usually say about 3 months out.

I've heard 2 months out and then request that people RSVP within one month of your date. That way, you have time to call people before you need your final head count since that is usually needed from vendors 2 weeks before the wedding. But if you didn't do save the dates, you could do it sooner... probably not any more than 3 months out, though, I think.

I sent save the dates out at about 6 months ahead. And then I planned on sending invites out 5-6 weeks before but people started asking why we haven't sent out invites yet & so we ended up sending them out 8 weeks in advance. Our RSVP deadline is a little over 2 weeks before the wedding. We figured we'd need to call people before we give our final count to the reception hall & caterer at 2 weeks.

I am sending mine out 8 weeks prior to the wedding (last week/weekend in June). I will give them about 5 weeks to RSVP (deadline August 1).

I'm in the same boat as you - I have everything ready to do the invites, but have been procrastinating!! I hope I can get them done...soon!

I sent my invites out a week later than I had originally wanted to, but they went out at 6 weeks before.
And our RSVP date is for 2.5 weeks before. Our wedding is the 30th of May and I was going to do the RSVPs for the 16th, but FH insisted on the 12th for some reason. haha :)

Our STD's were sent out 6 months before the wedding, followed by our invites 10 weeks before the wedding with RSVP deadline of exactly a month after they were sent out. I figure I need to give FFIL and FH 2 weeks to track down the rest of the RSVPs, then I have just about a month to work on the placecards, favors, programs, and seating charts.

I'm giving myself a little bit more time with it all at the end because I'm moving 2 weeks before the wedding and I really don't like to be rushed with any deadlines.
