Yep the old Man is officially an OLD Man
Today DH is 40 and the daft sod has gone to work like it's any other day.
I asked Him what He wants for a present and He said the usual "Nothing". Now bear in mind this is the same Guy who has got Me 12 Presents this year for My 40th in January. It's impossible to match or even better that. :bbeek:
OK, some of the presents We share. Tickets to see Nickelback in May, AC/DC in June etc. So i got up at Stupid O'Clock this morning to sort out the Spare Room / Den. DH spends a lot of down time online. And i know the chaos and lack of colour on the walls is getting to Him. He works long hours and never has time or energy to decorate. So today i'm taking it in hand.
All My eBay stuff is usually piled high in here. Along with a single bed that goes into a double, a huge desk with the PC on. Filing Cabinet, Rocking Chair and various bits and pieces.
So while DH is at work i've emptied the room out apart from the bed and PC. I intend to paint the walls whatever colour i come across in the shed first. It might be Plain White. It might be Pale Green. It might be Daffodil Yellow. Or maybe a Bright Peach. Who knows? Who cares? LOL.
As long as We don't have to stare at plain plaster another day longer. :winktongue:

Mitch that sounds great - he will be surprised and no doubt touched you did that for him!
for my FH 40th i planned a surprise party.
i told him we were going out for a classy and grownup meal at a nice restaurant and taking our closest friends ( a couple ) with us.
We had to stop at their place first to pick them up, and when we arrived - tada!! there were all our freinds ( minus the Bestman) dressed up.
it was a fairy party with fairy bread and kiddie food, a castle cake and a costume to go over fh's clothes ( wings, shirt and a tutu i hand made!)
i also had a printed shirt and wings to pop into.
he loved it.
very surprised but astounded that our freinds would bother to dress up for him ( has a little bit of a low self esteem and his previous birthdays sucked).
Each birthday i do something special, last year i gave him a list of things he needed to pack for his surpise bday activity - and then i took him to a cafe for birthday brunch - haha i got you! then wehen we were leaving i just kept driving for like 2 hours til we got to Seaworld adn tada! got you again - we stayed there the night and visited the park the next day.
i ususally start planning about 8 monthsin advance. sometimes more :)

DH got home from work an hour early and caught Me. :bbeek:
The idea was to paint the walls and get all the furniture and stuff back in place. Get all the decorating stuff into the Shed. Hide any trace of activity and shut the Spare Room / Den door. Run downstairs, sit on the sofa reading the Newspaper. DH was to walk in, ask what i've done all day. I reply "Nothing". Then DH walks into the room to go online and ta-da, the rooms been painted. :winktongue:
He walked in to total chaos. Shelving on the landing and no way of moving into the Bedroom or Bathroom because of boxes. Dust Sheets and Paint Pots at the back door. Brushes and Rollers still in soak. The Cat running around like We were moving House again. And i never got to read the Newspaper until about 10pm. :whyme:
Hey-ho. DH was still surprised. And sat at His clean desk surrounded by White Walls and not plain Plaster. Safe in the knowledge that it was one job off His "To Do" list.
Awwww that's cute that he came home early. It was his birthday, of course he was going to try to come home early :) Did the painting take longer than you thought it would?

Happy Birthday to your DH! (Although a bit late). Your idea of a birthday present is great. Just the idea of someone else doing your job sounds awesome :)

Just a tadge.
DH's roller had rigor mortis so i had to do the first coat with a two inch brush. :bbeek:
Then remembered We have a radiator roller in the shed. So i did the second coat with that. It's only four inches long but it's on a long handle. So no need for the steps to reach the top.
It took ages. But i've always said perfection takes time. :winktongue:

OmG 2 and 4" brush/roller????? We did our house with 12" rollers and I thought that took forever! :bbeek:
Kudos to you... even more now!
