Ok, so i am getting married in Hawaii, so i am obviously going to get my dress and have it altered here and everything (the same with my fiance) So, how should we get them to Hawaii? Like.. a carry on? Wouldnt that be too big? Or have it shipped there... im very unsure.

I am just seeing this ... not sure really; I would call the airline and see what their carry on requirements/restrictions are.

Both the airlines and the ferry customer services suck, in my opinion, and almost nobody knows what you can and can't do with your dress when you call ahead. Because I was told that I wasn't allowed to carry it on, I ended up buying an oversized suitcase and paying extra to have it checked, because I was told that I couldn't carry it on, only to see another bride waltz onboard with an even bigger dress than mine and have it put in a special locker area that I was told didn't exist aghuishj :censored:!
Frustrated? Who me? :innocent:

A Friend of ours who lives in Glasgow Scotland got Married to a Woman from America. She bought Her Wedding Dress in America (So Her Mum could take part in the picking, trying on and alterations etc).
The Wedding was in Scotland so She packed the Dress into a suitcase and boarded the plane. When they landed at Glasgow Airport. The Groom carried the case through Customs not giving it a second thought.
He was stopped by Passport Control. Was asked the normal questions, then asked if He had packed the case Himself. He naturally said Yes. So they opened it to find the Dress inside. Our Friend was so embarassed. Firstly because it was a Dress (They might have thought He was a cross dresser lol) And secondly, He wasn't meant to see it until the day.
They said that even though it had travelled thousands of miles to the UK. Been thumbed through Customs etc. There were no creases or marks to worry about.
So i would suggest a case big enough to give the Dress room to breathe.

The idea of traveling with your wedding gown and your groom's attire can seem scary! But in my experience and those of SunCelebrations clients, it is easy to do as long as you plan ahead.
Personally, I carried on these items in a garment bag and highly suggest other destination brides do the same. If worst case scenario, the airline or shipping company were to lose your checked bag or package, you would be without your wedding attire which you obviously don't want to risk.
Call the airline a few days before you depart to let them know you will be traveling with your gown. Politely request that your flight attendants be notified and hold a place for it in the first-class coat closet (even if you're flying coach)!
Please note the garment bag will count as one of your allotted carry-on items. No matter what, be certain you do not walk off the plane without your garment bag! I learned the hard way with a different carry-on item that once you leave the plane you cannot re-enter for security reasons.
I found that as long as you smile and politely tell airline staff what you're carrying, they understand and are happy to help!
Be sure to arrange for your gown to be steamed or pressed at your destination a couple of days before your wedding to remove any wrinkles from the trip.

Good information! This has been a huge concern for me as well.. as we are getting married in Vegas. A girl I work with told me when she went to Puerto Rico there was a whole wedding party who had their wedding stuff hung up. I hope its that easy for me as well. So the next question is the way back? Do you smoosh the thing in a suitcase? haha

Haha . . . I don't think throwing your wedding dress in your suitcase afterward is your best bet. What if your hair products explode?! Just to be on the safe side, we hauled our garment bag back on our flights home to keep my gown nice before it was professionally cleaned and preserved.
Enjoy your Vegas wedding! A side note, if you are still looking for great wedding accessories, check out the Vegas Bling Company inside New York, New York. The store looks like a high-end diamond retailer, but all the stones are cubic zirconia, so the pieces are a fraction of the cost. The small store is owned by a European couple who professionally style brides as their primary business. I found amazing, sparkling wedding earrings at a really reasonable price!

Interestingly enough, I got all my jewelry already and it is actually cubic zirconia set in platinum. It is gorgeous. I knew the look I wanted but also knew I couldn't spend 10K on jewelry. I can't remember the name of it but love it! :yesnod:

When we flew to Vegas with his suit and my dress in a garment bag the Flight attendants were wonderful. She saw the bag and asked if it was my wedding dress. When I said yes she said let me put that in the Captains closet. RC got us First Class tickets from Dallas to Vegas and back so they took really good care of us and our carry on. We got more attention than the singer from 3 Doors Down who was also on the flight. LOL. Since the bag was in the front of the plane she told us to just sit tight and once the cabin was clear she went and got our bag and brought it to us. And gave us both a hug and wished us good luck.
