New Years Day Wedding!! I need some ideas.

I am getting married on Jan 1 2006, I would like to do something special pertaining to the reception. I need advice on what colours will be approriate, also I want to create a special theme its an evening into night reception i am looking for a new years eve party like atmosphere. Please help me I am lost. :?

To me, New Years Eve brings to mind:

lots of sparkle and shine
confetti and glitter
deep jewel tones, black and metallics
champagne (sparkling cider, a festive champagne punch) in flutes
bite-sized hors d'oeuvres (stuffed mushrooms, rumaki, mini vegetable spring rolls, cheese puff pastry straws, etc) instead of a seated meal (can be served buffet style or stations, or have passed hors d's)
bite-sized sweets (petits fours, mini cookies, cheesecake bites)

New Years in itself is such a happy time, not just because of all the partying, but because it signifies a new beginning - which is exactly what a wedding recpetion is celebrating.

Just some thoughts . . .

I love silver and black for new years - I think you should first decide how formal/fun you want this to be. Noise blowers, a balloon drop and confetti could add or detract from the mood you are trying to create.
