So, I have been SO SICK the last 5 days or so. I had to call in to work yesterday because the doctor demanded I come in because they thought I mioght of had the swine flu, since I was in Mexico.
Turns out I didnt have that, but I have a virus.
Well, today I feel worse and called in again.
I asked if corporate was mad, and my manager said " Well, I dont know. yesterday was a nightmare"
Im terrified of losing my job for calling in sick for two days after being gone on my honeymoon two weeks ago. But what can I do if I feel so sick?
Im so frustrated becasue I think ill either get in trouble or fired. :(

Just get a note from your doctor.

I have one but I have a feeling it wont do any good because I told my manager and she didnt seem to care :(
They can't fire you if you have a note from your doctor. That *could* result in a lawsuit, unless you let them walk all over you.

yep....aside from your honeymoon(which was planned time away), unless you have a history of doing this, there is NOT much they can say, and i've not heard of many viruses that aren't CONTAGIOUS...i'd go to work and infect the whole lot of them...then they'd b*tch you came in...with a doctor's note, there's not much they can do...

Well, ask your doctor to write another one.

Not in Arizona...
We are a "Right To Work" State; meaning they don't need a reason to fire you.
I would just get a new note from your doctor, explain to your manager that you were very sick and because you just returned from Mexico you were advised that it would be dangerous to contaminate the office.
I don't think you will get fired. She may be upset but she will get over it I'm sure.

Hmmm I didn't consider that! Thanks for setting that straight.

Yup, I personally think it sucks, but I have never lived anywhere else, so IDK.

Can you drag yourself in and just lay low for the day? I was out a day last week with sinus issues, and when I dragged myself in the next day everyone saw how sick I was. I stayed for about three hours and called it a day. Sometimes it helps if they can witness how sick you are. Just an idea...

i would try to get yourself into work, even if u can't stay the whole time so they can see how sick you are and that you are trying... it's just not a good economy to be w/o a job IMHO

I'd be careful about that. It's sort of insinuating that she has the swine flu and her dr already said she doesn't have it. VA is a right to work state as well.
I would go in and then get sent home vs. just calling out.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to insinuate anything. I was going by what was said on our local news, which is that the first people tested for the swine flu are just NOW getting results in, and that even if you were told that you only have the regular flu, not to contaminate public places. Her Doctor couldn't have known by looking at her whether she had it or not, as testing is done in a laboratory here in AZ. and they have been so back-logged that the first results are just now coming in. :bblol:

Good point. I wasn't trying to say you were trying to insinuate it, I was just saying the boss could take it that way.
