I couldn't imagine not taking my Hubby's last name! My family treats me like mud, why would I want to keep sharing a last name with them? Besides now my last name is REALLY German!! lol Before it was a bastardized German name...blah!! lol

I am super excited about taking Justin's last name! I have already been practicing my signature! I know it's childish, but it's fun to me.

I voted yes ... I have DH's last name but used my maiden name as my middle name.
I knew I defiantly wanted to have my husbands last name but I also wanted somehow keep my family name without having to do the long hyphenated thing. So I dropped my middle name and now I use my maiden name in it's place. This way I was able to take my husbands last name while still keeping my fathers name, which was important to me.
I do love being Mrs EECIV though

I can't legally take his name (stupid law applicable only in Quebec) .... but I will do so socially whenever it is possible to do so!

That is just too funny and believe me when I say that I TOTALLY understand where you are coming from but before you lose the loser, take the opportunity to drag his (the x) name through the mud just a little bit more.
I keep telling people that I only have a little while left to ruin his (the x) already bad name. :boxing:

You girls are nicer than I am, the very second my divorce was final, I got rid of his name. And I changed both my kids names to my maiden name. There was no way in hell that we were going to honor his name, when he didn't even step up to support his own children. @sshole!!!

Absolutely not. My name has been working nicely for me for 27 years. If something is working, why tinker with it?

As I said before, Lacey, you're such a rebel. I was wondering when we would get a "no," and you answered that question.

Oh honey, have no fear when I got done with the abusive SOB Dr. Phil would have stood up and applauded me! The IRS, the EPA, the KEA (teachers association) and the local law enforcement were all filled in on him...he was a mean, dishonest, mentally and physically abusive piece of **** and when I found my backbone and stood up to him he got what he deserved! And I did it all with the grace and finesse of a real southern belle...my big brown eyes and southern drawl got him in TONS of trouble...hmph guess he should have kept his hands off of me!

I was in a terrible state of mind and just wanted it over so I could get the heck out of there!
I think it's gonna be kinda funny when people start asking him "Hey is your ex getting remarried? The engagement announcement comes out this weekend in his home town (where my family is from), and here! That last name only belonged to his little circle of idiots so people will talk! And when they see the pic of me and Eric (in his cowboy hat) they'll talk MORE! He hated my horses and my western lifestyle...he always used to accuse me of chasing cowboys...He he he looks like I caught one!

My SIL (Matt's oldest sister) and her husband were actually thinking of him changing his last name to hers because hers/ours is German and his is something like Russian. Now in Germany, it's kinda bad thing to be Russian. (not to me but to German's it apparently matters.) I think they ended up adding her last name to his last name and they both took it. Funny German people!! lol

I was wondering the same thing. But I know that Quebec has some pretty weird rules when it comes to some things and I'm always wondering why Residents of Quebec can never enter into the same contests as the rest of Canada.

I took Nicholas' last name. We even discussed him takign his mom maiden name and then I take that one. Becuase his father has nothing to do with him. But his name has worked for him so he is keeping it. So I took his name. My maiden name wasnt much for me. I should have had my dads but he had nothign to do with me as a child and so I had my moms maiden name. I will never forget setting up a bank account and they asked my moms maiden name for some reason. ( this was yeasr ago ) When I told them and then they looked at mine they said no the name she had before she was married. I looked at them and told them I know what you meant , I have her maiden name. Jeees I am blonde but come on people.

It's against the law to take his last name and apparently the law has something to do with protecting children born outside of marriage (??????!!!!!!!) I don't know how it is supposed to benefit a child born outside of marriage) All I know is that in every other province (but the one I live in of course), I would have the CHOICE to take his last name or not.
No worries .... we do plan to move someday and when that day comes, I will take it on with all the enthusiasm any lady could have!

I can't explain that one either except to say that our contests are run through Loto Quebec ... maybe these other contests don't comply with LT rules?
I give up trying to understand the reasons behind what the Quebec gov. does.

I have NEVER moved on Canada day and I absolutely refuse to do so. I have insisted that any lease I have had, not begin on July 1st. Moving companies and truck rental companies get 3X the price for half the amount of time. Still, 1000's of people will be moving today. BTW - It's not a law but that said, I heard the reasoning behind it just yesterday ..... this gov. "suggestion" was put into place so as not to disrupt any child's school year.
We will be celebrating today! We are plan to take in the events & fireworks. Someday, I want plan to get to Ottawa and celebrate with everyone on Parliment Hill - I have heard it's awesome.
Happy Canada Day (eh!) & a Happy 4th of July too!

I'm taking his name but I might keep my last name as another middle name because my parents had girls and so did my dad's brother and so our names stop here... I'll be able to pass the name through and hopefully keep it around. My family name has been around in this bloodline for over 500 years!!

I haven't decided. I like my name and don't really want to change it. He used to say he didn't care, but now I think he does. However, it's my name to do what I wish. I definitely won't be dropping my name, but I don't know if I'll officially add his name to mine, hyphenated or not, or just take it socially.

I am going to be hyphenating on all my legal stuff. I love his last name but my kids have my maiden name and I will not be changeing those. SO this works best for me, however, for all intence purposes I will be known as Mrs. Charles ie. Charlie ie. Cookie ie. Tuna (because of all his ball friends)! That works for me.
