not to toot my own horn but, sunday (4-5) is my birthday!! nothing special, but FH says that he has something planned for us and I am not to make any plans. I'm kinda excited. Usually each year we just take each other out to dinner someplace fancy (for us) or one of our favorite places to eat we don't usually go to. one year he baked me a cake while i was at work. when i came home he pretended to be sleeping. and when i walked in the kitchen there was a choc cake with choc icing with a big glade candle (lit) right in the middle of it. (he couldn't find the b-day candles in the drawer so he went to dollar store and couldn't find them there either so he improvised). sometimes men can be so sweet.
This made me wonder do any of you gals have any traditions for each others birthdays?
Well we kinda have a tradition on Chad's side - his dad's bday is very close to his so we tend to always go out to eat with his parents, siblings, and their spouses. Of course, his dad doesn't care if the other birthday boy likes his choice in restaurants so last year we went to a steak house. :ooh:
I think we should start a new tradition! :D

We normally skim over the top of our Birthdays and pretend they're not happening. :bbeek: Although i have never worked on My Birthday. And even at School it was always the Christmas Break.
But this year both DH and Myself are 40. (Me back in January and DH the end of this month)
DH has bought Me Twelve Presents. One each month.
For His Birthday i have no clue whatsoever. He says it's a normal day and He plans to work as usual.
Plus Two of My Presents include DH. I got Tickets to see Nickelback in May and AC/DC in June.
With Four Daughters and a Grandson We tend to celebrate their Birthdays more than our own.
We do have Cake though. And always cut it with a Samurai Sword.

Oh we most definately have a tradition!
We (parents, siblings, fh) forget it's my birthday until about time to go to bed that night. I think I was 17 the last time I got a birthday cake, and that's because my mom FoRGOT my 16th birthday.
It sounds awful, but it doesn't bother me nearly like it did when I was younger. As for fh, he randomly brings me home surprises so I don't get upset when he forgets my birthday. He does really good remembering it up until that week. :bbeek:
For my 21rst birthday we did go to Vegas, and since then we take each of my nieces when they turn 21. We will be going again in July!

We don't have any traditions between the two of us other than making a cake. One thing I can think of with my family is that my dad always has to sing his birthday song that his family sang when he grew up...haha this year on my birthday, I answered my phone, and it was him singing the song.

I don't know if we really have any special tradtions ...
For DH's birthday we usually go out to eat and I will get/make a cake or something for him and maybe get him a little something. When his mom was alive she'd always make a cake and get pizza and we'd go over there.
For my birthday it is pretty much the same; dinner and a cake or something and a small gift.

his pap and or gram always calls each of us on our birthdays. as soon as we answer the phone they start singing to us. it doesn't matter who's birthday it is they just start singing.
we used to treat our birthdays as just another day nothing special. But one year his dad forgot his birthday and it really bothered him. so we went out to eat and had a great time. he said we should do this more often. so we try to go out once a month, but sometimes we just can't afford it. But we make sure we go out and celebrate each others birthdays. we don't always get a cake but we ALWAYS get each other a card. we even pick out a card for each other from the cats.

I make Sean a cake (new tradition) for his birthday <3 carrot cake because it's his favorite- and I made it from scratch!
We also usually go out to eat because we get free dinner coupons for our birthdays

For my birthday, we always go to the State Fair. :) Sounds kind of dumb, I know, but I really enjoy seeing the prize winning vegetables and the amazing quilts and the new tractors and the baby animals, etc. I like that kind of simple stuff! And last year we discovered a new local raspberry wine which we adore (and other people do too, it's REALLY hard to find!), so you never know what you might discover. We always get organic lamb (the best!) and birch beer and something really bad for you to eat (last year it was cheese curds, this year I think I'm going to try to find fried pickles).
I celebrate milestone birthdays in a bigger way. For my 30th, I went to New York for the weekend to see Hugh Jackman on Broadway. For my 25th, I got a tattoo!
This year it's my 35th, and the first birthday I'll be *married* to Fiance, so I think I'm going to have to do something very special. Not sure what, though. It'll be just a week or so before we go on our honeymoon, so perhaps I'll wait to celebrate until we're at Disney.
Fiance doesn't like to make a big deal out of birthdays, typically, so we keep it low-key for him. He likes a cake, and I get him a small gift, but he never wants anything special, and his family doesn't have a lot of traditions about birthdays.
I tend to celebrate mine because with my health issues and everything, every year I've been alive is a gift, and I intend to treat it as such!

Not really a tradition, but we always go out to eat on each other's birthday. And the birthday person gets to pick what restaurant. I did that all the time with my family when I was growing up, and would like to keep doing it. Fiance says it doesn't matter, that we don't have to do anything, but I'd like to.
