View Full Version : Can this be pulled off without looking tacky?

To avoid the high cost of floral centerpieces, I've been trying to think of some unique materials to use for centerpieces. I was just watching Whose Wedding Is It Anyway? and saw the tall vases with large white feather "bouquets." So, is this an economical choice compared to the flowers? My other question is...can this work well with the use of black and white damask and perhaps lanterns hanging from the ceiling? Or do you think this would all look ridiculous together? I want the look of drama without the high price, lol.

My colors and black and white with touches of red. Honest opinions please, ladies!

I think damask and feather go well together.

Here's a shower invite I found:

I used Feathers at My Wedding.

I was planning on doing something like this but never got around to it.

Sorry the pictures big.

I think it would look great, but just watch out for the prices of the feathers, as they can get pretty expensive too! If you could find a good deal on them though, it would definitely add to the drama effect. :D

I agree with others, if not executed well, or if gone overboard, it could look a tad tacky, but otherwise, I think it could be quite dramatic and get the effect you're after.

Another option I'd suggest you look into is maybe doing submerged stems in the tall vase with LED on the bottom to light up the entire thing. You can probably get away with using fake flowers since it'll be submerged anyway, and even with real flowers it shouldn't cost too much. (I'd try finding some pictures right now, but I need another cup of coffee in me before I do some serous net surfing.)

I love this idea...I am using damask...so I think I might opt out of flowers and do something fun. I think it would look great with your colors!
