I hope that I'm not jumping the gun, but I think it's time to start a thread with the projects we're doing on the house. We started with painting everything but the living room and hallway:

First off, Sierra's room:

Here's what all the walls looked like before we started painting... plus a few splotches that looked tacky. We still need to paint the baseboards and get the carpet in:

http://forums.onewed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4297&stc=1&d=1238430945

And here's the same view of the new wall:

And around the room:

Here's the 'blue room' as we've been referring to it all weekend - but it'll be the baby room/office:

and DANGIT if I don't have a shot of this complete - it's actually finished you just can't tell in this pic :irked:

Mine and Matt's room!

The plan is to run black moulding along the line in the middle of the wall and paint the baseboards black. (That really is gray, not green. The camera does it no justice). Oh yeah, and Matt said we'd be painting the door so Sierra went crazy with the paintbrush on it - needless to say we NEVER got around to painting it.

The main bathroom took FOUR coats of white and it still needs another coat. I said forget it - I'm going to run a color border anyway - eventually.

Half bath ended up being a beige color concocted of the 'blue room's lighter color mixed with white. This bathroom turned out GREAT!

And finally, my kitchen *sigh*

GO AWAY PEA GREEN! WOOHOO!!!!

I'm tellin ya, the camera does these colors NO justice. The kitchen is a gray/beige - just about EXACTLY what I had in mind!

Looking good. :)

There's You painting an entire house. And here's Me putting off painting the spare bedroom.

I spend half the day in here on the PC. Surrounded by naked walls and a tin of paint. But then i look at all the stuff in the room and think again.
There's a massive Desk, Filing Cabinet, Single bed that converts to a Double. Everything for sale on eBay and all the stuff that's waiting to list is here with Me.

It's like a Warehouse but without a Forklift Truck.

I sold the Forklift on eBay.

It was a cool model that went for good money

You did a really good job! I hate that my pictures didn't do the room colors justice, either. Isn't it awesome to paint without needing drop cloths because the carpeting is getting ripped out anyways?!? I did see one across the tile floor. Good idea! I was cleaning the bathrooms yesterday and started scraping the little paint splatter off the toilet and countertops. Wish we would've used a drop cloth on the vanity!

Breckan, you're RIGHT.. it was such a relief not to freak out every time we dripped in the bedrooms.

Thank you!

Last night, Matt and I went out and painted the base boards in ours and Sierra's rooms. We overpainted a little bit since we were anticipating this. It doesn't look FANTASTIC because we used spray paint - got some overspray in the corners :irked: But since we have white paint - we can fix it in our room at least.

Here's what it looked like in Sierra's room - I didn't get before pics in our room - and that's where I got after pics. I didn't get after pics in Sierra's room, but that's where I got the before pics. I'm a dork

We also re-painted the moulding that is going to go across the middle of the wall... I can't WAIT till that's in - it's going to be sharp... I think..... Cept the long wall piece of moulding broke on my way home from HD :irked: so we're going to have to use 2 pieces on the wall to the left of the window - GRRNESS. Oh well, we'll make it work.

Yeah, we just used spray paint. If it comes down to it and we have to repaint them, we'll just tape them off and spray them again :D We sprayed the baseboards and the moulding... I'm kinda bummed we're rushing through it and not using oil based, but oh well - it's something we can fix up easily in the future if we need to. I'm kinda ticked at the overspray in the corners though (our room and Sierra's), but our room is easy to fix at least. Sierra's - well, let's say we don't have that shade of pink anymore as I had to mix the remaining in the old paint can which made a whole new shade :D Oh well!

Wow... SO much has happened!

Saturday morning, the carpet guys come in and bring the WRONG carpet for the baby/office room. Not only that, the carpet we picked out for our bedroom is TOO SMALL! (Sierra's room turned out PERFECT).

So the guy says he can make it work - the too small carpet - I said no, I don't want a half assed job done, so Matt and I drove 23 miles back to Elk Grove to pick out different carpet. Thank goodness they had a roll of commercial grade gray patterned carpet in stock that Matt fell in love with, so we picked that.

Now, for the wrong carpet - the guy said that the one we picked out was too small so he sent us the next one that we were looking at. Well, I picked the paint in the room with the carpet sample we had of the OTHER carpet. DANGIT!!!! Now my paint doesn't go with the carpet :(

It looks okay - but it's totally too orange for my comfort. Once we get it furnished it should look a lot better.

We moved in yesterday... about 2/3 of the way moved in. Still gotta move the computers and one of the couches and a bunch of misc stuff.. Oh, and the garage :urgh:

Went to IKEA and got our desks and vanity for the bathroom that has no mirror... :whoohoo: I can't wait to get pics of them up already - cuz then they'll be done hehee.

Pics soon!!!!!!

Here's the carpet that we had to go get because the stuff they brought wouldn't fit in our room. So we drive 23 miles one way to get the carpet, and I told the guys NOT to pull it out the window. The MOFO's just yanked it out, which scratched the whole interior around my window on my door - I'm TICKED!!!!!

Last night I worked on the main bathroom. I cleaned and scrubbed the counter and medicine cabinet and set up the themed goodies (soap bottle, toothbrush holder and towel rack). It still needs a lot of work (new towel rack/tp holder, shelf for the toothbrushes and etc).

I emptied my first box LOL! It was the game box with about half our games in it - and put them away - AWAY!!! It's so nice to have a place for things (which right now is very difficult since the house isn't ready for us 100%).

Matt and I also put up the moulding in our bedroom!! :whoohoo: I am *so* going to end up painting it again - and we ended up being about 10" short for one wall, so we put the short end behind the door so no one can see it LOL.

We went to HD and got some essentials we've been making a list for for days... and this time we only spent $30 - the cheapest trip yet :D

OH, and I set up the daybed in the guest room. I want to get a bed in a bag set for it to make it a NICE setup instead of the usual mismatched setups. I'd like to have our office/baby/guest room to be inviting somewhat.

I have bought alot of nice things from Brylane Home www.brylanehome.com (http://www.brylanehome.com) because they have some fabulous deals in their clearance section. If you sign up to get their e-mail specials you can save even more when they send out special savings codes too! I gotta say he did shave a little bit though - he's not AS shaggy, but he can use a good barber. The punk won't go to a barber though no matter what I do. UGH! I just can't win.

I had to cut Matt's right before the wedding :irked: and yes, it was the worst haircut I've done (I've never cut hair before Matt's, so I'm still learning). His ex even said "WHAT happened to your head?" (She's gone through beauty college and used to cut hair for a living lol).

I told him he should have her cut it next time LOL.

Thank you Val!

Last night I cleaned the main bathroom. While cleaning I noticed the water in the toilet bowl receding... and coming out the base of the toilet :irked:

I flushed the toilet and it happened again.

So I told Matt, and found out it does it in BOTH bathrooms :urgh: BUT, it only happens intermittently - I've flushed it 4 times since then with no leaks... WIERD.

So after cleaning floor up in both bathrooms, I got to cleaning the half bath. I started putting together the vanity we bought (cuz the half bath is missing the mirror), and Matt called me in and asked me to watch Criminal Minds with him (one of my favorite shows). So I left the vanity pieces sprawled out on the floor in the baby room and never made it back.

So, we had an off night... and Matt's been thanking me all morning for it. I guess we haven't had a night together in awhile and he notices that kind of stuff more than I do. I still don't feel like I've got anything accomplished except for finding out our plumbing SUCKS... but at least we got some US time last night :)

Last night wasn't as much of a night off as the night before - but I didn't get a lot done.

I put together the vanity that we bought from IKEA - and found that it has to be hard wired, it can't be plugged into the wall :irked: So Matt is supposed to figure out how to do that.

I finally got the piece I needed for Sierra's dresser, and was able to finish putting it together and now she can put her clothes away woohoo!

Also, I went through a box of paperwork and reminisced - it was all wedding planning stuff *sigh*

Hmmm... I contact papered one of my kitchen shelves, and it didn't take well to the contact paper :irked: . But I said w/e and am going to finish the rest of them with the paper anyway because it at least protects the wood, and who's going to be looking in the cupboards anyway :)

I went to the thrift store trying to find clothes for the cruise. I was there for over an hour and came home empty handed :urgh:

I told Matt EFF the thrift store I'm going to Ross and I'll just get a couple pairs of pants and some clearance shirts. He just kept on snoring (yes, he slept ALL evening LOL!). So I'll take that as a "Go ahead sweetheart" :D

I finally got me 2 pair of pants and a blouse... yay! Now I can style a little for the cruise :)

We moved on Saturday - got a UHaul and loaded it up ALL DAY Saturday. Got there at 8am and left at 8pm. Had a little yard sale and made $35 - which bought dinner LOL.

Last night we emptied the Uhaul at 10pm :urgh: Yes, I'm beat... but at least it's empty. We still have some stuff at the old house, but nothin that we can't just throw into the back of the truck on the way home from work for a few days.

Well, the septic has been backing up to our front door for a few days. Yesterday I called a plumber and they were at our house within the hour. It cost $175 for them to run the snake through the pipes. Come to find out, weeds had grown IN the pipes, blocking the pipes up. He said we have a 30 day guarantee, and it should last at least a year. :urgh: Can't we just FIX IT? Yeah... for $65 per foot of pipe! OmG!!!

So for now we deal with simply snaking it. Gonna see if the home warranty covers it :)

Check out the color in my roses! I couldn't believe the contrast between the middle and tips of them. They're kinda sick, but they still held the color beautifully!

Well, I got my bandanna valance in the mail the other day. It's way too short to use as a single, so I'm going to have to order another one and hope it's exactly the same size (they hand make them, that's why it took so long for me to get it). I'm getting excited about it now though because the place I ordered has NO customer service, and I thought I'd never hear back from them. BUT, now that I got my valance, I'm ready to order another one and get them hung in a few weeks when the new one comes in.

Matt and I haven't gotten anything done on the house. Last night I moved the desk into our bedroom to hook up the computer and see if we had Internet yet. We don't have a phone jack in the master bedroom - how rediculous is that!

Anyway... I've been off caffeine for over 2 weeks and I'm having a really hard time, especially now that I'm sick! I am hoping to get the kitchen cleaned up so that I can go grocery shopping soon - I'm so sick of eating out :urgh:

Yesterday I cleaned out my spice cabinet, cleaned the shelves above the stove, swept under the stove (it's still greasy, but at least it's swept), and stocked the spice cabinet. All that took me about 2 hours. I had to spray degreaser on the shelves above the stove, let it soak for awhile, then scrub - about 6x per shelf!

So we went and picked up a modem for our computer so that we can hook up the high speed. I got the modem off CL from some guy - needless to say I'm not too confident in the thing. And get this, it says $3 on it, and he sold it to me for $15 :irked: but it was listed at $15, and Matt and I were thinking that it may have been that price for him to begin with. Who knows. :urgh: We'll know if it works tonight.

Matt mowed the lawn and broke his brand new lawn mower :( He thinks he bent the crankshaft. DANGIT!

Growing up, we always had a garden, orchards, and flowers. Our parents even gave us a plot to plant our own gardens so that we'd know how to do it on our own - and we not only had to keep up with our own gardens, we had to keep up with the 'family' garden as well. I love gardening, I just haven't done it since I was about 12. I wanted to get rid of the rose bushes and replace them with some of my favorite vines, but Matt wants to keep them. So we're going to compromise. I'm going to relocate them :)

I'm looking forward to see what you get done this weekend!!!! I think that you'd enjoy gardening, it's just a matter of not overdoing it and getting stressed. You know, only start with a small one - maybe a few tomatoes, carrots, peppers, squash and cucumbers. It doesn't take a ton of plants to yield food.

Bulbs. I was just thinking last night that I want to plant bulbs somewhere. I have never had MY OWN place to plant flowers, so I'm totally looking forward to attacking the yard (front and rear). However, I don't see that happening until the fall/spring upcoming. Right now it's focus on the house Justina :)

Over the weekend I cooked lasagna in my kitchen. It was not as hard as I thought it would be, having only about 2.5' of counter, but all went well. I overfilled the lasagna which caused it to over flow in the oven - which smoked up the house so bad I could barely see Matt across the house LOL. Oops... note to self - get deeper lasagna pans :D

Anyway, my second valance came in the mail yesterday. I've found that the first one I ordered was too short to begin with... that's why I had to order another one. Well the one I ordered secondly ended up being the correct size. WTF?

So now I have 2 mismatched valances.... I think I'm just going to string em up and deal with it. If I pin or sew them together they'll look like one anyway.

Yay! I've been looking at dishes too. Eventually I want to get rid of my mismatched dishes and have just one set. I'm really digging the Corelle sets.... I just need to find the pattern I want. It's so stinkin expensive..... I don't see it happening for awhile yet.

Jon has these thing about inanimate objects, I think he got it from watching toy story one to many times but he just collects STUFF. Cause he feels bad and doesn't want to throw it away. I can't tell you how many stuffed animals and toys we have cause he found them on an end cap of a store and bought them cause he felt bad for them. *sigh*

That's so cute LOL!

That's how Sierra is - OMG she has so many stuffed animals. She wants a real pet to match each stuffed animal she has

Matt has like, 5 boxes of magazines. MAGAZINES!!! WTF is he going to do with 5 boxes of magazines!

He agreed he's going to go through them and get rid of em, but stuff like his yearbook and important papers are mixed in with em :urgh:

Oh well.... in time, we'll be at about half capacity of what we've got now.

UGH! We (meaning fh) is like this too! He has 3 storage sheds full of ****. 1 for his tools, and 2 miscellaneous ****. One of them he hasn't even been to in at least 3 years. But, like a good girl I go every month and pay the $45.00 on it.

Yep, $1620.00 for the last 3 years. I bet he doesn't even know what's in it!

I refuse to pay for a storage unit - I'll pay for a parking spot (which we haven't had to do YET), but I won't pay for a storage unit. I can't fathom paying to store something if I'm never going to use it again. It's hard to let go of things, but they're just things - and I'm FINALLY learning to understand that.

I'm so excited! I was browsing CL yesterday and found '2 free entertainment centers'. Well, I email the guy and he says he's got too many inquiries, and if we want him to hold them it'll be $20. SO I respond to him and tell him I'll pay him $20 to hold the WOOD one for me (there was wood colored and antique beige colored). He responds and says "you got my number - too many inquiries".

So I get off at 2:30 and call him up - no answer. We get to his house and I try to call him up again - no answer. The entertainment centers are in his driveway behind his truck. So, we loaded up the one we wanted! It's solid wood (except for some of the shelves under the TV slot). It's EXACTLY what I've been wanting.... Okay, so it could be a little wider, but I'm not thinkin' bout that - I'm thinkin' bout the fact that I just got a $200 entertainment center for FREE!!!!!!!! I spent an hour and a half cleaning it last night and we put it in the house - got it set up for the most part, now I just gotta unpack our pictures and nick nacks and we'll be set!

We have a mouse.... :irked:

It's living IN my couch! WTF! So I set out traps yesterday and we're hoping that we get em. I can't even sit on my couch without getting the eebeegeebies! There are freekin TURDS under the cushions. How the heck did this happen????? I'm so irked.

Other than that, the house is going great. We realized that the lawn grows a lot greener when we water it real well a few times a week - so we started doing that

Yesterday I was in my bedroom. We have a street facing window, with no fence around our yard. I heard something right outside my window. So I go to the window and see two little heads right below the window.

Me: "Whatchya doin?"
Startled little girls: "Just picking roses"
Appalled me: "Picking roses? Don't you think you should ask before you do that?"
Girls: "We were going to ask you but we forgot. Can we pick some of your roses?"
me - still appalled: "Which rose do you want?"
Girls: "We tried to pick some already but they keep falling apart. I want that one"
Me: "You can each pick one. But I need you to promise me that you'll ask me next time you want some roses and I'll help you pick them, okay?"
Girls: "Okay, thank you!".

Okay... so WTF! Then I look out and there's a kid riding his scooter in my driveway around my CAR! (Scooters have METAL handlebars).

So I started pruning my rose bushes. Got 3 done, and I think I have 4 left. I'm butchering them down to nothing because they're half dead already anyway. Hoping that this will help them come back nicely.

This is so motivation to fence in our yard. I wanted at first to get rid of them, but there is one bush in particular that is orange/red/yellow that is freeking amazing, so I'm just going to *eventually* relocate them. In the meantime, I've got to prune them back so they look better, and so that they can survive.

As for the little girls and boy, you have to wonder where the parents are, ya know? Like don't the parents say don't go into other people's yards? I have to say, you were very nice to them, I don't know if I would have been! But then again, you don't want them going to their parent's, "she yelled at us!"

I've learned the hard way to be nice to the neighborhood kids. They'll key my car, steal my mail and break my windows when I'm not looking. And yes, I do wonder where their parents are! These little girls were like SIX years old.. the little boy was probably 6 as well.

Yes, mice in my couch... don't ask me how. I've seen the little fool twice ON the couch.

Kitchen... is still sittin. I'm trying to green the lawn before we get our puppy. I still want an island, and I still want to remodel it, but that's all something that can wait. I've learned how to deal with a busted dishwasher and no sink or counter space :bbeek:

Mouse in the couch--yuck!! I hope you get the little turd.... er, and his little turds. Gross gross!

You had a lot more patience with those kids than I would have--in your best interest though, it seems. I've been known to lean out the front door and chew out kids that were in my yard. (Although, in my defense, a couple of them were playing with a dead squirrel--all we need is some kid to get rabies or something in our yard!)

We found a mouse in our apartment one morning... on the floor dead. We have no idea where it came from, how it died, or anything. DH found it when he woke up and walked through the living room. I had just walked through there in dark a little while earlier and luckily did not step on it. Fortunately, the dogs didn't have a chance to see it either. We just celebrated our first anniversary and I STILL have one room full of boxes from when I moved in a year ago!! Most people would say I should just rid of everything in there since I haven't touched it in a year, but it is good stuff! :)

I'm hoping to do it in mid to late Summer... right now we are just too stinkin busy to get anything done.

So what's up with the storage building?

We are still in the process of deciding what we want for sure, and then getting quotes. Originally we were going to have 3 outbuildings in the back- a music studio (20' x 40'), an RV cover for the trailer, and a gazebo/bar. Of course these projects have to be done a bit at a time to afford them all.

We have the gazebo kit, but haven't gotten it up yet. That is the next major project and we hope to have it done this summer. We might not get the bar built inside it, but at least we want to get the structure up. The big hold up is getting an electrician to the house to give us a quote on what it is going to cost to get electricity to all the buildings. We are guessing somewhere in the range of $10K, but aren't really sure. Anyway- We also want to have some plumbing done for both the bar and the music building.

We are now thinking of combining the RV cover and music building by choosing a metal barn type structure with lean-tos on each side, one side for a porch and the other for the RV cover. If we do the barn, we can put a loft upstairs for storage. We are expecting a quote back from a builder this week, and are taking bets on what it is going to come in at. We both think that it is going to be over $40K - for just the building, not counting what we will need to do to finish out the inside and if that is the case, it will be waiting again as DH doesn't think that he will see a work bonus this year and that is where the money would be coming from. He refuses to finance it, so we will have to wait a little longer. We will get there, just not as quickly as we would like.

So a lot has been going on, but not any progress on the house. It's still a sty of boxes and furniture that hasn't been placed properly. So, Matt is going to his cousin's this weekend so I'm going to see if I can't make some progress!

Today I found a STEAL on Craigslist! I found a hutch WOOHOO! It's green, and I don't want green in my kitchen, so I"m going to try to use paint stripper to get the paint off and get it down to the wood - then maybe stain it afterwards. First I have to put it in the back yard and cover it so I can get the house cleaned up *first things first*

The garage is a mess - Matt's truck leaks gear oil like a civ, so we're going to clean it up and put in shelving units that we got from work.

Annnndddd I got pics!

Here's what my living room looks like... it keeps getting worse and worse even though I've taken a whole truck full FULL to goodwill:

I was thinking about our house threads earlier today when I was on my way to get the hutch - figured I had to bump em :)

Funny you should ask about the curtains. I have my valance still... I just haven't figured out what else I want to do with it. I might put the valance over the sink and put a real curtain in eventually, but for now, I had to throw something up because the sun sets on the back side of the house and heats up the kitchen bad in the end of the day. So... here's my makeshift "fix"

My valance that may end up moving:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/New%20House/DSCF0027.jpg

And... a fleece something or other I had layin around the house - literally IN THE WAY LOL. It's appropriate considering the western theme I want for the kitchen. I might try to find a material similar but thicker curtain material instead of fleece:

YIPPEEEE!!! Last night I did dishes for the first time in 3 weeks - GROSS I know, but we haven't been cooking or eating, so really they were from like, THE 2 meals I've cooked in 3 weeks.

Not only that, I cleaned the bathroom - probably better than it's been since we moved in. YAY! Now the only thing I have to be embarrassed about when we have company is our bedroom (the coolest room in the house when it comes to the walls LOL).

So, yesterday was a very satisfying day!

Oh yeah, so I washed the dishes, then put them through the broken dishwasher just to sterilize them, and the breaker kept blowing - not to mention, I cooked dinner last night so I had the stove and the d/w on the same breaker. So I turned off the d/w so that I could use the stove, then when I was done with the stove, I turned on the d/w. I swear I had to trip that stinkin breaker 6 times and it still didn't want to stay on. Some time or 'nother during the night, the breaker spazzed out and the d/w finished it's cycle lol.

THEN we're going to do a big friend's bash hopefully in November. Now I just gotta get my hutch done and into the kitchen and I can start on pics & organizing the living room :)

More updates as I get the place cleaned up :whoohoo:

Wow I"m laggin.

So today I had to come home early to meet with the plumber. Our sewer heading from the front porch to the street has been backed up for weeks, and my washer doesn't drain, so I tried to get both things done with one visit. I met the plumber a little bit ago, and he snaked the front yard. We have a big tree in our front yard (not even really big but big enough to be a PITA). Apparently the roots from the tree have gone through the sewer line and punctured it. When he snaked it he took out HUGE chunks of roots. So this is going to be a regular occurrence unless we dish out the dough to fix it - roughly $800-$3k.

Matt says we'll just keep having it snaked 1x or 2x a year since we only plan on being here 5-6 years. BUT... we'll see. Time will tell. I think the pipe being broke is going to cause more problems as time progresses. Hopefully when we get better jobs we can just have it fixed 'cuz I'd rather pay off the house and rent it out, than sell.

Here's how close the drain is from my front door - you can see in the bottom of the pic the corner of my entry way rug that sits right outside my door, and the drain is about 2' up the cement from the pole on the right:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/New%20House/DSCF00362.jpg

So he wouldn't touch the washer drain because it's not up to code. It's a 1.5" pipe instead of the required 2" pipe. So he told me roughly how to fix it... but he couldn't touch it. Ugh. One more thing.

So here's how my washer/dryer sits right now. Dryer is usable, washer is not:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/New%20House/DSCF0044-1.jpg

Anyway, that's the latest and greatest. I'm still gagging over the smell of kitty litter and backed up sewer from my front porch, but I've hosed down the sewer and it's DRAINING!!!! This is good lol.

Also!!! Matt and I were laying in bed the other day and we look up and see this: WTF!

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/New%20House/DSCF00352.jpg

So today I go out front with a hammer and pulled any grass out of the T-11 siding that I could, but the grass is still in our room so I'm guessing I can just pull it out from inside - I just don't want to do it yet lol. I sprayed roundup on the grass by the house and hope that it doesn't happen again:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/New%20House/DSCF0039-1.jpg

You can see in this pic how the siding is boughed.... LAME!

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/New%20House/DSCF0038-1.jpg

Not only that we have dry rot on our window sill. It's the only place on the front of the house that's got dry rot. I think whoever installed our window did a terrible job and it's just rotting away:

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a176/Ford4x4Chik27/New%20House/DSCF0040.jpg

And last but not least - since Matt's truck has been at a friend's house since Thanksgiving, our garage has gone to hell!!! I can't wait till we get it cleaned up 'cuz I'm tired of looking at it and walking through it:

WOW. I think I'm speechless. I hate when contractors give such broad ranges for the amount something could cost. I mean $800 -3,000? I understand they don't really know until they get a better look, but still.

As a side question...are your washer and dryer Maytags??? Take a close up pic...I think I have the exact same ones!!!

I know right - he said it'd be about $175 to run a camera down in the pipe and find the break. Then he said if the pipe is broken in one spot it can be around $800-1100 to fix. However, if the pipe is broken all the way down then it can cost well over $3k to have it fixed. I mean come on now, it's just a frikkin pipe! It can be fixed in A DAY! Heck I can do it, but he said "by code" a licensed contractor has to do it. *rolling my eyes*

As for the washer and dryer..... The dryer is a Maytag, the washer is a Kitchenaid. I've never had a matching washer and dryer before LOL.

Sorry to hear about all the problems! That stinks that plumber wouldn't fix the pipe, but at least the outside is taken care of for now. I can kind of understand what you're going through... our washer isn't the most functional right now because the pipe is clogged. We tried snaking and it hasn't worked, so we're hoping a plumber can fix it... unfortunately the plumber we wanted to use doesn't do pipe stuff. So we've got to find another one. We've used the washer, but it's annoying because we have to emtpy the water from the laundry tub as it gets filled. Annnway, I hope you're able to get the pipe fixed so you can use your washer.

If I can't get the pipe in the wall fixed, I'm just going to run a drain pipe out the back yard into the ditch Matt and I dug during the storm.. it'll work for awhile I just gotta get the hose to do it.

Oh man! Plumbing problems are the worst! We had the same tree-roots-in-the-sewer-line problem at our old house - but the water backed up into our basement instead of the yard! Gross! Once we had it snaked and the roots cut out the plumber told us it would probably be okay for about 5 years, so hopefully your fix will last longer than you think!

FFC
03-18-2010, 10:27 AM
I wish I could be 5 years optimistic! We had it snaked last May and that plumber told us the same thing - and he pulled huge chunks of roots out. Soooo, not so lucky. We'll be snaking it about every 10 months or so :irked:

I told Matt we should invest in a good snake 'cuz it'll be cheaper than paying a plumber every time.

Matt's solution? Tear out the tree - roots and all. I'm afraid if we do that it'll tear up the foundation of the house. So we could cut down the tree and KILL the roots.... that'll stop it from growing into the sewer lines. But it's our only tree on the whole place and it kinda... fits. Oh well.. I'd rather take out the tree than pay $3k to fix the sewer lines!

Mom came out this weekend to help me out. We made up a couple lists - one was a 'dream list' that she wanted to see: what I wanted to see done with the house eventually without money as an option. Not saying it's going to happen but she said having it written down really helps to make at least some of it happen.

The other list was what we wanted to accomplish this weekend. Well ladies! We got a lot accomplished! Got my 4 foot tall lawn mowed - most of it, then the mower ran out of oil LOL. At least in front of my house looks great!

She also fixed and cleaned the gutter that we discovered is leaking into my wall and making the water flow into my kitchen - not sure if it fixed the water problem but it'll work for now so the gutter is draining down the gutter and not on the wall.

She fixed my BBQ for me so I can grill :whoohoo: :confetti:

And the best of all?! SHE FIXED MY WASHER!!! I'm so stoked. Now I have a washer and dryer that work and I don't have to go to people's houses to do laundry! Yayyyy!!!

We got a bit more accomplished but I can't remember it all right now. I'm just excited we got so much done!

Ooh! I wanna see your dream list! I have things in my head and should put them on paper. But from what I can think of offhand:

1. Fence in the backyard
2. New screens on our back patio
3. Wood blinds in all the windows
4. Ceramic tile in the entry way and master bath
5. Figure out how to put a shower in the master bath! :)
6. Make a bedroom in the basement for DS. That'll open up another bedroom on the first floor in case we want another baby! Plus teenagers would rather have their own space, anyways! Right now it's a spacious finished basement (couches, bar, and tv) with a tiny office and a random toilet in the storage area that we'd have to figure out where to put the new walls and stuff and try to keep some storage space.

Your mom is my hero! :innocent:

Breckan, your dream list is so reasonable hehe! I totally wish I had a basement!

Well, here's what I can remember off the top of my head for mine... I'll update it tonight with the rest of the list if I remember:

(Regardless of Matt)
-reseal or replace windows (all the windows allow a breeze due to improper installation)
-new fence around the whole lot minus the driveway
-landscape front and back yard
-NEW shed in back yard
-expand back side of house meaning bigger kitchen, real master bedroom and bathroom
-expand back patio
-install shelving and cabinets in the garage
-CLEAN garage
-put in outside door in kitchen during expansion... or before?
-knock hole in wall between kitchen and living room for a bar
-remodel kitchen
-new vanity in main bathroom
-new bed/bedroom set for my room
-re-think front patio (wind and rain hit my front door head on)

(If Matt stays gone for good)
-repaint house inside and out
-completely redecorate

More to come later!!!

Oh yeah, it's pretty tame. We actually HAVE the ceramic tile and just need to get DH motivated to do it (we've had that tile for a year now). He retiled the main bathroom and then that was it... Hrmm...

We don't have anything like expansions or additions! I wouldn't be THAT crazy!!! LOL. I'd also love to knock out 1/2 the wall between our kitchen and living room, but it's a load-bearing wall so I don't think that'll be happening. I'd like to have a breakfast bar to sit at.

Now I'm seriously contemplating running to Home Depot over lunch and picking up some paint to tackle our kitchen. It still has butterfly wallpaper for the backsplash. I can't believe it's been a year already! Jeanne's journal update freaked me out with all the stuff I'd like to do yet!

I have so much progress to report!!!

This morning I forced myself (literally) to sleep in. I woke up at 7 and couldn't get back to sleep, so I eventually fell back to sleep for 2 more hours. It was awesome. Then suddenly I got this wild hair to clean out the garage. I jumped out of bed, put on a bra and flip flops and got to work. Literally - still in my jammies, didn't brush my hair (threw it in a pony tail) and I am now a wreck LOL. Can't wait for a shower but I'm relaxing first because I don't feel I can stand another 5 minutes for a shower hehe.

Well, with Matt gone, I'm stuck with that job by myself and sifting through his/my stuff and determining what goes where and to whom. So I left him a huge pile of stuff to pick up (which he did this evening and he was TICKED I made him pick it up today), and I organized what I could of the garage. Cleaned up the gear oil and swept the garage, cleaned out the scrap metal from the back yard, and my dad brought a friend out who mowed the WHOLE back yard!!!!!! I have pics but I'm not about to get back up to find the camera right now lol.

Anyway... I cleaned out the garage, moved my rig into the garage from the back yard, found my back patio where we cleaned it off and set up the BBQ (which we used for the first time today!!), got the whole back yard mowed (still gotta rake it  ), and even got the front cleaned up a little bit. Might not sound like much but this pregnant lady is exhausted from it all. I"d say I got in a good 8 hour day of physical labor so I feel very accomplished.

To top it off, we made hamburgers, the leftovers of which I made a meatloaf. I also made salsa from scratch (forgot the lemon  so it didn't turn out "just right"), and now we're sitting down to watch Sherlock Holmes. Dad ran to the store to get ice, so we're on pause so I figured I'd update :)

Well, yesterday I went into the garage. I turned on the light in time to see the rear half of a very large rodent. When I talked to mom, she thought it might be a possum. SO, I checked the garage again later, and there was (NO JOKE) a RAT on the hood of my rig. I've never seen a rat in my place, but I've suspected them in my ceiling/walls.

But seeing them in the garage just freaked me out. I had nightmares last night because of it! Not only that, just about every time I go into the garage I see a mouse. So Will and I have decided to be proactive about these things. I gotta go to Home Depot and get some expanding spray foam to fill in the holes in the house (there are quite a few of them throughout the house/garage). Not only that, I'm going to get my rig out of the garage and clean it out since the rats can completely destroy the wiring. Once I get the rig out of the garage, we're going to clean everything up, organize and put stuff in totes. I'm hoping to take away any 'home' they might be able to find.

URGH... I hate mice. I hate rats. I hate anything that is in my home that I don't invite into it. GRRNESSSS. I hope we can get rid of these things quick. I do NOT want them coming into the house. I have a TINY house - so there is not enough room for me, baby, Will AND the rats.

Anyway. That's my rant. We're going to be proactive about these suckers this weekend - I hope. The trick is getting my rig out of the garage without having to get IN IT hahahaaa. I don't wanna climb in with them if they're in there!
