repost from the FAQs (http://forums.onewed.com/forumdisplay.php?f=35)
We seem to get the same questions over and over again, so I thought I'd put it all here for everyone to (hopefully) read :)
There's a sort of "probation" period for new members where they have to be around and post normally for a bit to become a "trusted" member of the community, before they will have full access to all the forums and board's functions/options.
You will not be able to edit your profile, add signatures, send PM's, post links and pictures, etc. This restriction is in place to help keep spam and abuse to a minimum.
So until you have become a trusted member (really doesn't take that long, but it may vary, so don't ask), just introduce yourself and join in other community discussion and let us get to know you some :grinhappy:
Signatures; Tickers and such
Once you get past the new member "probation" you will see the "edit signature (http://forums.onewed.com/profile.php?do=editsignature)" link at the top left column of your UserCP. This is where you can add a signature.
Countdown tickers are popular; here are a few sites where you can go to get one for yourself ...
www.ezticker.com
www.tickerfactory.com
www.tickercentral.com
www.daisypath.com
The site will give you a code (bb code) to use on the forums. Once you have the code, you copy and paste it in your signature "Edit Signature" via your "UserCP".
Banners are also popular; you can request a banner from one of our talented members who volunteer to make them here -
http://forums.onewed.com/showthread.php?t=12371
Whatever you put in your signature, remember to keep it clean, short and sweet. Here is the general signature rule -

Private Messages/PM's
New members can receive PM's from Moderators, but cannot reply or send PM's to anyone else until they are past the new member probation.
If you still need to contact someone with a question or problem, you can email forum support (forumsupport@onewed.com) for help.
Links & Images
New members are restricted from posting links or images for a short time. So if you have trouble doing this, that is why ... just keep posting normally and it will come.
Editing your own posts
This is not just a new member thing, this is an all member thing; no one can edit their posts. There is a small window right after submitting where you can, but once that is gone the post is there forever. Our boards are primarily a resource, so they are archived and never purged.
It is a good idea to preview before you submit your post. Also remember that most of our forums are public and anyone, member or not, could find them in a search online. So you might want to refrain from posting anything too personal and/or incriminating that you may not want to be discovered one day.
We will edit or remove posts that are rude or otherwise go against the board rules, but we do not make a habit of editing or removing posts because someone posted something they wish they hadn't ... think before you type ;)
Specific Forum Restrictions
Some of our forums are restricted and/or blocked to new members. So it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the rules before posting anywhere. If you have something to share and find that you can't post in the forum you think it should go, don't try to post it somewhere else or it will likely get deleted. Trying to get around these rules is a good way to get off to a bad start here.
Vendor or not, if you are trying to promote something, you will need to be extra careful what you post and where, especially as a new member, as to not be mistaken for a spammer!
If anyone ever has any questions about these rules or what is ok to post and where, you can always PM a moderator, or you can post your question in a new topic here in the FAQ forum if you cannot yet use the PM system. Or you can email forum support (forumsupport@onewed.com) and ask there.
I think that is about it unless I missed something ;)
