My brother came to visit our new home for the first time this past weekend. He brought this gorgeous stained glass piece (that he had made) to give to us. Awwwwww I love it and I love my youngest bro!!!

This photo doesn't do it justice (because it was dark outside) but ain't it purty?

We whipped up a wonderful dinner on Friday night and we enjoyed some time by the pool, on Saturday ....hahaha

OH yes, and they brought their Sheepdog, Finnegan (who did get in the pool with his doggy hostess). (Lily has never been so tired! LOL)

Beautiful stained glass! I wish I had talent like that!

BTW, ever since I was a kid, I always wanted a Sheep Dog! We grew up with neighbors who had like 3 or 4 of them, I loved watching them.

Take a class if you have the time. He had never done anything like this before but he took a class and has been doing it ever since. He really enjoys it.

Lily goobers and Finnegan dripped. The weekend was wet!

I have four brothers (ranging in age from 5 - 13 years older than me) but I don't play favourites :). My parents followed the alphabet when they named us so, you can tell where someone falls in the birth order.

Andrew (eeny) - also creative - he's a woodworker
Bruce (meeny)
Cameron (miney)
Duncan (mo)
Elizabeth (no mo - as in no more children!)

My feet are on the pool or on the ice actually :) The doggies were playing on the ice too.

I was just pretending. We won't have swimming temps till June

My Mom gave us those names. My brothers also had alternate names when she got flustered and forgot who they were or called them by another's name.

Andrew (Sam)
Bruce (Joe)
Cameron (Peter)
Duncan (Michael)
Elizabeth (I didn't get an alternate name because I never caused her any grief and so, she never got flustered by her angel daughter )

wow, that sheepdog is beyond precious!! Also, great stained glass piece! :) I wish I was creative - alas, I don't believe it runs in my family as my mother is super creative yet I managed to get not an ounce of creativity lol. But it looks like it runs in yours strongly :chimp:

It is a lovely piece and even better that your brother made it ... and you like birds!

I hope I can be closer to my brothers and sister as we get older. I am pretty close with my sister now, but no so much with my brothers.

As for creativity; my mom writes a little, so does my sister (or she use to), one of my brothers use to draw a lot, even wanted to be a tattoo artist for a minute, the other one is more into computer games and such. I like to think I am a little creative, but I don't do much with it these days.

Wow, that stained glass is just beautiful!

I love your mom's funny names for your brothers. My mom always had more of a "Ry-- Al-- Kr--UGH! You! Come here!" thing going on :)

How funny :) LOL my Mom would even get the alternate names screwed up if she was really flustered!

If you asked me, I would have to say that it's not inherited but learned. I honestly believe that it requires patience, making mistakes & practice, practice, practice.

For example, I could show someone the tricks required to paint a pretty picture but, a lot of people give up because they don't get the perfect results that they envision the first time so, they get frustrated and then they give up.

Coming up with ideas is another matter LOL I think that comes from a "special" (skewed/warped/detailed/fantastical) way of viewing the world

I think a lot of it is genetic. Case in point

Maternal Grandfather- wood worker, poet
Paternal Grandmother- 2 hands full of green thumbs she even developed new varieties of flowers, artist with flowers and paints

Mom- sews, paints, makes miniatures from scratch
Dad- wood working, miniature furniture

Sister- can play anything she hears on the piano, quilts
Brother- artist, musician
Me- I sing, embroidery, make cards

Brothers kids
JJ- Plays the drums like crazy, the kids at school call him the drum god.
Abs- Piano, sings, tenor sax
Sam-writes music (He is only 12) Artistic, and the biggest dare devil you ever want to meet.

I wonder if this is so because they "learned" to be creative from those who surround them. Does this make any sense?

*LOL my brain is hurting from so much thinking going on today*

I just took a better pic of the stained glass. I can't wait for a sunny day to see what it looks like with light streaming through :)

I think it makes perfect sense! I come from a pretty artistic family. My grandpa on my moms side worked with wood all the time (and made us toys on the side :D ), my big papa (g-grandpa) also worked with wood.. Made the second story of grandmas house. My daddy could also draw, as could my sister and i. My auntie can also sing. :)

However, when i think back to when we were little.. A lot of what we were doing over grandmas house... Was drawing on scrap pieces of paper. So i think its both. :innocent:
