View Full Version : Fake or Real??

In the beginning of all this was was very much opposed to using fake flowers.

We're going to be at the beach so it's not like we need TONS of flowers. So I wasn't too concerned about flowers since the only ones who will have them are me and my maids of honor.

Now... I'm starting to think about this.
If we go with natural flowers my sister would be making the bouquets. Which means we it would be another set of errands to try to cram in the two days we're in Cali before the wedding.
We're already running around doing as many last minute details as possible and crossing one thing off that list would be nice.

If we go with silk or real touch/whatever the name then I could have them made ahead of time and they would be fine for wedding day.

Questions:
Do silk/natural touch photograph well?
What do YOU think?

We are using both but mostly real. The bouquets, centerpieces, cake flowers and a couple decorations are real but most of the decorations use fake flowers.

I voted real, only because I just love real flowers. I think some fake flowers look just as good - if not more so than real. I didn't know you were getting married in California - where are you going to do it? :)

I bought the pre-made bouquets from Hobby Lobby for myself and I honestly don't think that anyone is going to be able to tell they aren't real. Plus, I can't remember the last time I was at a wedding that had real flowers. I say go for the fake/real touch just to save yourself the headache of having to cram it into your 2 short days in Cali before the wedding.

That's what I'm thinking. And this way I can shop at a more leisurely pace to find what I want.

I also wanted to tell you...not sure if you have Michael's there in Michigan but they have tons of pre-made small bouquets right now in different colors. I just got the ivory ones for my BMs but they had reds, pinks, and some that were mixes of bright spring/summer colors. They were $7 or $8 each. They were tied with a raffia ribbon and I took that off and wrapped ribbon around the stems to match my bouquet. Hope that helps!

If you are worried about having to do too much last minute then I'd go with artificial flowers. You can get them that look very nice and photograph just fine ... plus they last longer :)

I have seen some of the Michael's pre-made one that look great and others not so much.

I've also seen pics of fake flowers done and it was hard to tell the difference, to be honest..

I voted fake for your situation. I think it will be less stressful, etc.

I am using a mixture of both - my centerpieces, pewmarkers, petals on the cake, etc are all fake but I am leaning towards real for the bouquets, corsages, etc.

I was going to use all real as well since we'll be outside and not really need much. Now, I'm leaning towards a combination (actually, just the opposite of F77g4) I'm thinking of doing artificial bouquets for myself and MOH since our ceremony is going to be so short and then using real for the centerpieces since people will be sitting right up close to them for awhile.

I think there are some really nice artificial flowers out there right now. They seem much nicer than what I remember. I say go for whatever will reduce your stress! :winktongue:

Thanks guys.
I'm going to talk to my sis and get her opinion on this too.
But it looks like I may just go with artificial if I find some peonies that look pretty.

This is EXACTLY why I went with real feel.

I dont have a professional camera. But here is a regular picture of the bridesmaids bouquets untouched and not finished.. I am taking off that green.

Whoops! I voted before reading your post :)

I voted for real because I always prefer real flowers over fake ones and am using real in my ceremony and reception.

That said, after reading your post and hearing about your situation I would definitely go for fake! Fake flowers have really increased in quality over the last few years and they're very cost effective.

We are using fake flowers for the centerpieces and real flowers for everything else.
Since our the flowers in our centerpieces will be in water anyways, we didn't think it would make much of a difference.
These are our centerpieces:

Those are cute Ashley. I guess I didn't mention that were doing real and fake too. But its the exact opposite from what you are doing. only ones that are fake are gonna be mine and my girls.

I'm going to be using fake flowers (latex) for the bouquets and bouts and potted plants for centerpieces. Fake is going to be less stressful for me (DIY food) and then I can keep it forever.

These days you can get artificial flowers that look realistic...like you said having artificial would cut one more thing out of the To Do List. For the ceremony decorations and flower girl I would suggest using real just in case the wind picks up you don't have to worry about littering...Best Wishes...ForeverXTwo....

I voted for Silk.

Because i was hosting our Wedding Myself including Flowers, the Catering etc. I went with Silk for Mine to save less hassle on the day.

I had a couple of re-runs with the Flowers until i was happy with it. Cost next to nothing. Looked good in what few photos we had. And i can look at it everyday because it's in a tall vase in My Lounge.

In Your situation i would go with Silk too. Less to worry about. And You get to play around until You are happy with the Bouquet.
I can't imagine nothing worse than someone making a Fresh Bouquet on the day and it looking awful. :(

I know that scenario is rare. But it would be just My luck for something like that to happen. :whyme:

I'm using mostly real, with the exception of hydrangeas which my florist tells me that they wilt quickly. These will be used in the boquets, the cake and centerpieces, but just as fillers, not for the whole thing.

I think there are some fake flowers that look great. I also think that being that you are going to be on the beach, are people really going to be looking that closely at your flowers? I think they will probably be more focused on the beauty of the beach.

Plus, you already made mention of a possible time crunch. I think fake flowers would be a great idea!
