We're finally geared up to start the wedding planning. We're traveling to VT to look the venue we've had our heart set on since we saw it a few years ago, and also to meet the person who caters there to try some food.

Question: Is it wise to try to negotiate prices? We're not getting married until 2010. If so, what's the best way to do this? Any tips/ tricks?

i did a budgeting/planning seminar w/a wedding planner not too long ago and she explained that the venue is the vendor that is least likely to be willing to negotiate. Photographers, djs, etc. you may be able to get them to come down in price or throw in some freebees...

i'm getting married in 2010 too and i'm finding it almost impossible to get vendors to budge b/c at this point... they're gonna get someone else to book on your date if you don't accept.

maybe others have advice/other experiences tho...

Thanks! Yeah, we're not finding a huge different in VT where we want to get married. Everything just seems so expensive for one day (must get past this thinking).

I would not try to negotiate prices with vendors; it could be taken as offensive and you won't get anywhere then. I would suggest looking around; you are bound to fine something that will work with your budget.

If you find a vendor that you just love but can't quite afford their fees; you could tell them you have a certain budget and ask them if there is anything they could offer to better fit. Sometimes people may give a discount (especially if you are open to Friday or Sunday or other off peek days), sometimes they might make up a special package for you or something.

If is better to be nice and complement them rather than to just go in there and try to get them to lower their price for you. Many times there are plenty of other brides out there that can and will pay their price with no fuss.

There is a thread around here somewhere about cost cutting ideas; let me see if I can find it.

Here, have you seen this thread - http://forums.onewed.com/showthread.php?t=7861
