Just curious to see if you are getting your makeup professionally done for your wedding or not.

I want to do my makeup myself because I want to look like "me" at my wedding! It seems like if I ever have a friend do my makeup or if I have a professional do it, I turn out looking so fake and plastered on. I have a lot of freckles on my face and most makeup artists use so much foundation that it covers them up...and I look really weird without freckles! Basically, I just want to look like me!

That's a good point, Chelsea! With Amber, she wants her bridal party's makeup to be dramatic on her wedding day. So we are paying for all the girls to have their hair and makeup done professionally that day. We already have an appointment at 9am on the morning of Amber's wedding, and our hair stylist said to allow for us to be there for 6 hours. We are going to have a blast!!

Well, we are going to get our hair done professionally. My matron of Honor had a mini party when we got our hair done for her wedding and it was a blast! It was a really nice way to stay relaxed and think about happy/non-stressful thoughts before the big event! I am going to need all the help I can get with staying cool and calm that day! I am really excited though because my photographer said she would come to where we are getting our hair done!

I did my own makeup. I thought about hiring someone to do it but everytime I have someone else do it, I look like a cheap tramp. I like doing my own makeup. I look good when I do it. I know what I am doing. Since I did my own I saw no reason to pay for someone to do the girls'. But we all got our hair professionally done.

Me, mom my FMIL and my FSIL are going to have our hair done professionally I am the only one having professional makeup because I know that if I start to try and do it I will be so nervous I would screw it up....that and I want pretty dramatic makeup too and when I try to do it that way I look like Tammy Faye Baker

Lol Ellen!! Tammy Faye, you are not!!

I had mine professionaly done. I thought along the same lines as Ellen, that my hand would shake and blam, I'd have a problem!! lol. I told the make up artist exactly what I wanted and she followed my instructions to a "T". I was very happy with how our make up turned out. (All bride's maids and my mom and I.)

I love when the photographer takes pictures of the girls getting their hair done! Those pictures are always so cute!! That's why I was trying to document Amber's trial updo. LOL!!

Thank God, you're not doing it yourself then, Ellen, because if you looked like Tammy Faye then Lacey wouldn't be able to look at your wedding pictures. LOL!! She would be too scared!!

I was going to do it myself...but then the salon I wanted to go to for my hair has a package that includes trial hair, wedding day hair, complimentary hair for the rehearsal and wedding day makeup for $111...I thought it was a good deal, so I went with that.

I got mine done professionally. I usually don't wear makeup and I don't think I could make it look good myself so I just had them do it when they were done with my hair. I know they made it look a lot better than if I would have. If it were me, I probably would have looked like a clown, lol.

I had mine done professionally. I'm just a mascara and gloss girl, so I wanted someone who knew what they were doing.

I cant answer fairly on this one because I am so blessed! My best friend's sister (MOH sister) has offered to do my make-up for free. She does make-up professionally for photo shoots and has worked with some pretty big names. I'm going to give her a nice gift.

I selected professionally done because she is a professional make-up artist but she's also a very close family friend. :D

I made an appt. with someone at the Clinique counter of a local department store. Free make up with the purchase of 3 products.

My friend needed 2 products so I only needed to buy the one (a lipstick @ $18).

I was quoted $65 from one lady and $40 for my bridesmaids. What is up with that?! I mean do brides require $25 more work? I noticed that I was charged more for my hair too.

This was the first time I had ever had someone else do my make up and I must say that I was very pleased.

I didn't do anything special with my makeup when we got married, I did it myself.

I have heard that from others and it makes no sense to me. Maybe the hair if the style the brides wants takes a lot longer. My hair was the same price as all the BMs and I did my own makeup.

I would go elsewhere if they told me my makeup was going to be more just b/c I was the bride and I would also go elsewhere if my hairdo was not going to require any additional time or work.

Was a makeup trial on a separate occasion included in that price? That might be worth it then.

I think it's because the bride's get a "free" trial run too. :grinhappy:

I would have had my hair done professionally the day of our wedding, but it was on a Sunday afternoon. so I had to do it myself.

I'm lucky my mom is a hairstylist. I just don't want her stressing out trying to do my hair! I have a picture of a style I want, she wants to practice and one of the girls at the salon said she'd help.

As far as makeup, I don't wear much and may be somewhat clueless. I went to a Mary Kay party the other day and learned some stuff and feel pretty confident to do it myself. Maybe...

I heard about going to the makeup counter. A friend of mine did it last year for her wedding and all she had to do is buy some product. I'd be worried that it would come out terrible!

I'm having someone do it for me, but I went to Sephora not too long ago and had them do it a couple of times with different colors. It was eye-opening, because I tried some things I would've never tried before and they looked better than what I would've done! When I consulted with the makeup artist it was easy to tell her what I wanted (and didn't want)!

I think the makeup counter is the worst option. I have never had a great experience at a makeup counter, they really do not know much about what they are doing and certainly do not try to do that the morning of your wedding. If you choose to have your makeup professionally done find a good makeup artist and have a trial with her/him before the wedding and work with the same person. At a makeup counter you don't know if the same person will be there the day of your wedding.

I had mine done at the counter and I didn't have the time beforehand to go for a trial run so I didn't even ask about a free trial. That said, my friend did recommend a particlular woman and so, I knew who to ask for. I warned the woman up front, that if I didn't like it she would either do it until I did like it or I would leave without buying product.

It was wonderful and I am going back to the same woman again when we go to have the retakes done.

BTW - you have every right to ask if they are a qualified esthetician/make up artist or just someone who works behind the counter. The lady that did mine was an esthetician.

Well then maybe the makeup counter is possible, but certainly do some homework before your wedding. I just know I have always come out looking horrible and luckily I have never had anywhere special to go after one of those fiascoes. In my experience they couldn't even find me an appropriate shade of lipstick.

I don't know .... maybe it was the beginner's luck? LOL If I had have had time, I would have gone for a trial but my friend only convinced me just before our wedding LOL

Not that it matters but, I went to the "Clinique" counter to have mine done. There were a least 6 brands of makeup in this department store and each of them did makeovers. BTW - Some of those products can get quite expensive and if you have to buy 3 or more for the free makeover, the cost is going to be the same as hiring someone to do your make up but ....... you don't get product when you hire someone.

Originally I posted that Fh's cousin was doing my hair. But, after a trial run with her, I changed my mind. We are goign to the place the FSIL used. Just up the street from my house. Only $38 for hair and make-up.

That's exactly why I'm scared to do it that way!
I'm getting some practice lessons with this Mary Kay lady I met. She is pretty helpful but at the same time I know she just wants me to buy more stuff from her. Im having a party with some friends and my BMs that are here in MI. Now she wants me to sell the product, I'm wondering if this is a bad idea now??

I used a Mary Kay lady to do mine and my BM's make-up, and she was not too pushy to sell product or anything, but it was hardly worth the price - $25 for each BM and $50 for me - since we put most of the make-up on ourselves...she just provided the colors. We did not even get any make-up out of it!!!

I'm doing my Mary Kay party next week. I'm calling the whole thing "wedding research!"

Angel, maybe your lady wasn't as pushy as mine. She has called me just about every day AND keeps asking if I want to sell the product. How many ways can you tell her the same answer of NO??????
I don't know how much longer I can keep my composure and be nice, lol!

I'm still trying to figure out how come these places charge the bride more money.

I'm getting Beauty Speciale to do my hair and make up in WDW. They are only charging me $100.00 for the lot and I thought that was a pretty good deal. I always do my own make up but I wanted to look slightly different on my Wedding Day and if it was me doing my make up I'd probably play it safe. So a little bit of experimentation is okay, mind you I'm taking pics of the styles I like.:D

The BM's and I agreed that we want to do our own hair and make up. Two of my bridesmaids are really good at hair, so they're going to practice with my hair before hand. It just seems like so much money for something that can be done for close to free!
