Matt and I want to get a new TV as a gift to ourselves sometime in the next couple months. So, my question is... LCD or Plasma? Or did I miss one?

I've heard plasma burns images into the screen, and LCD doesn't. Is this true?

Need some insight - I'm TV stupid. We still have a 250 lb oldie that works great but it's 250(ish) LBS!

We bought a New TV with Vouchers kindly given as Wedding Gifts. We went with an LCD over Plasma because it's easier to clean. Plasma tends to have a weird surface that attracts more dust and wont wipe with a normal cloth.

And i didn't want to buy a Screen Buddy or use the Cat

Found this online. Might help.

I tired to copy and paste the difference between the two. But it copied over hard to read.

We have a 42 inch Samsung Plasma 720 p or i I dk. 1080 i or p or whatever is suppose to be more clear, but the guy at the store (and all of our research) said that as long as you plan on sitting more than 5 feet away they look the same. It only matters very much if you are closer than that.

We like ours. We haven't really had too many issues with burn in. The only time was from a wii game we played that keeps your name at the top of the screen constantly at the top, and we played for a long time. But all we had to do was run the "anti burn-in" screen and it took it away.

The thing I like about plasma is you can sit anywhere and see it, it doesn't matter if you are higher or lower or to the side, you can see it just as well. With LCD's sometimes it looks weird you aren't are the same height as the TV.

BUT what I don't like about the plasma, is you have to be careful where you put it so that there is no glare.

We didn't really care either way which we got, but this happened to be the better price for the size and came with decent review. It hasn't given us problems yet thankfully :) -- We've had it since late November.

We bought ours at HH Gregg.

Thank you Mitch and Jacklynn - you both gave me some great advice! Once I get some more replies, I'll share this with Matt when we're ready to purchase :) :whoohoo:

We have two 42 inch plasma TV's and love them. The newer one is a Panasonic and was around $1700....we bought it before we bought our condo based on good reviews. Plasma's generally have a better picture quality, which was a huge selling feature for us.

I know for us, we won't buy plasma. We want to hang ours above the fireplace, and since a plasma t.v. cools itself, the heat from the fireplace causes the t.v. to work harder and therfore, lessen its life span.

As far as picture quality, I honestly haven't seen the difference. As long as your t.v. is 1080pi, you shouldn't have an issue with most.

Right now, we have a Sony 46" LCD, since summer 2007. No problems with it at all.

We have an LCD TV and a projector; the LCD one is nice and was cheaper. The projector has a larger screen (projects on the wall) so DH likes that, but we only watch it at night together.

Oh, i forgot to add.. We have a 780p and can't tell the difference between the higher grades. =P It was cheaper though! I could tell that much. XD

We've got an LCD and we love it. The burn-in thing was a big negative for us when comparing LCD vs plasma, but we ended up with this one mostly just because it was an after thanksgiving super sale.
