Just curious to know were everyone purchased they wedding gown, if it was a designer made dress, and about how much they paid for it.

My gown was designed by Romona Keveza. I fits perfectly. The material is silk. There are no beads or adornings, which I like. :D It has no sleeves. The train in the back is bunched up like elegant drapes. The price was about 3500 but since I bought it off the rack (new design and they just unpacked) I purchased in for about 2500. Not bad for a designer dress. :P

I haven't found the perfect dress yet. :( But I'm looking for an off-the-shoulder gown with a full skirt that's simple but has lace or embroidered flowers...something romantic yet elegant for a garden wedding.

Check out this designer: http://www.jessicamcclintock.com

I did not see the prices on the site, but when I did a search it came up the as one of the most cost officiate. I briefly looked that the other designers but I liked this one best. I also saw two dresses there like you described.

Good Luck!

The dream dress that i found that i wanted was a Vera Wang and it was priced at 6500. That is more than my whole wedding is going to cost so i decided to look around a bit more. Thank God I did because I found a dress that looked like the Vera Wang but a lot cheeper. The dress that I purchased is designed by Mori Lee and was originally 1200 and I got it for 300. I was so excited!

I found my dress! Yay! It's off-the-shoulder and has tiny pink beads sewn into the sheer fabric covering the skirt in small flower designs...hard to describe, but it goes along with my garden theme.

Am3na, yes I love Jessica McClintock and originally my goal was to buy one of her dresses, but I don't know of anyone near me who carries her dresses and I didn't have time to travel very far to look.

Feather, that is such an amazing deal, good job!

Hey Sal0612,

That is the type of dress that I wanted to find but everywhere I looked they didn't have any off-the-shoulder dresses. Is there anyway you could take a picture of it and post it or send it to me so that I can see what it looks like? my e-mail address is hjcchandler@yahoo.com It sounds really pretty. I am so excited for you!

Thanks, Feather. :D

Here's a link for it, the middle dress, 95023...this picture doesn't do the dress justice, plus this shows an all-white dress while mine has pink beads, but you get the idea.

http://www2.davidsbridal.com/bridalgowns_return.jsp?fc=Bridal+Gowns&pg=View+All&pageno=26

Also, I didn't pay that price listed...Mine was $525 I think since I got a smaller size and it was on sale.

I will be getting married June 19th 2004, and my mother is actually making my dress! We went the other day to " Jo-Ann Fabrics" and bought all my materials, needles, threads, and zippers...everything...for only $84.00. I could have bought my dress but my mother made my sister's dress, and it was absoulty beautiful. I felt it would be more "personal"...My mother is so excited...she is driving me crazy. But I live near the Roanoke area and " David's Bridal " has alot of selections that are beautiful!!! Check them out...

My Aunt made my other Aunt's wedding dresses (http://www.onewed.com/dresses/) and bridesmaid gowns. I think it is a wonderful personal touch; a true hand-me-down to your kids.

yeah...mom made my sister's dress, 4 brides maids dresses, and 2 flower girl's dresses. and she also made all the bouqets for us girls and decorated the church. The thing that amazed me was mom made everything BY HAND....She had NO SEWING MACHINE,,,, Bless her heart...and my mom had like 2 months to do IT ALL...But I Bought my mom a sewing machine this time...Ha Ha ...And she has alot longer now. But I will buying the dresses for the other girls. have you heard of anyone RENTING the dresses for brides maids, and flower girls? I wish I could find someone that did. or at least a place that rents prom dresses. any Ideas? :P

"RENTING the dresses for brides maids, and flower girls"

That would be great if someone did. Woman are to curvy, with bust, waist, and hips that are all different shapes and sizes, so I think that it would be harder to make a size that fits most.

01-23-2004, 12:11 PM
Yeah your probably right. I just hate to get them something that will only be worn ONCE and for ONE HOUR...you know. See my Fiance and I are paying for everthing in this wedding because our family does not have much money. You know, if your not careful ...you could spend thousands of dollars. And lots of times the things you buy in bridal stores you can buy the same thing at walmart for alot cheaper. It is amzing how if you pay attention you can really save hundreds of dollars that you COULD spend on your honeymoon. Ohhh...another thing...give me some diet tips girl...I got to loose weight before the wedding. I had our daughter 9 months now and I cannot blame it on her NO-MORE!!! I tried the atkin's diet for awhile but got bored with it. and you being from va. you know how our weather has been :x any ideas?

Am3na
01-26-2004, 01:08 PM
I was on the Atkin's diet for a little while as well. That diet, just like any other, is for life. I just hated not being able to really enjoy anything unless it was meat.

I found that only drinking water, a half glass of milk (sometimes), and only eating about half of what is normally consumed helps. I lost a few sizes doing this. You will still feel hungry at times, though. But, if you can overcome this I guarantee that in about a week you will not feel hungry after you just ate. Remember NO SODAS, CUT BACK ON THE BREAD, and NO SWEETS- this includes anything with a lot of sugar- peanut butter, jelly, juice, sweet tea, heavy-syrup canned fruit, etc.

I need to lose some more weight too. (I have to admit that I have not been following my own diet plan lately. The holidays ruined it.) If you like to keep each other updated through the weight lose process, let me know. It is easier to lose weigh with others.

I'm getting married in June of this year and most women look at me like I'm nuts when I say that I'm wearing a black gown. It's a chinese dress in the cheongo-sam style, but you'd think I'd committed the most heinous of crimes by choosing black. Thoughts, girls?

Hello everyone,

I got married just a week ago. I have looked for a perfect dress for 2 long years, untill one day, I saw a dress in a martha stewart magazine. THe dress is made by Stephen Yearick. I called all the vendors, posted requests all over the websites asking whether anyone would have it. THe answer was NO!! I have found it in a store located 400 miles away from me. I flew there just to try the dress, it was amazing, however, I could not afford it. It was $3, 500. I could not imagine spending so much money for just one day!! Untill a genius idea came to my mind. I know a seamstress, who is a close family friend from Israel. She makes wedding dresses for a living. She actually works for a desighner in Israel. So I contacted her, sent her a picture of the dress, my measurements, she showed me the progress of the dress over the internet. HSWe shipped it isn a small bag , the one that has all the air sucked out. What can I say, the dress is gorgeous. I have gotten so many compliments on this dress at my wedding.

Anyway. It is strapless. THe top is completely beaded with crystals. The waist is not straight. It is lower than the actual waist line and it goes at an angle. One side goes toward the hip more than the other side. The skirt: it is bunched up all around, with crystals attached to each "bunched up part". The back: Open back, (no bra required, with a string going across the back in a triangular fashoin.

I wear size 2, but it can fit up to size 8, because you can adjust the back with the string. In addition the skirt comes separately, so the button can also be adjusted accordingly.

If anyone is interested, Please e-mail me for many many pictures.

I got married 5 years ago. I went with a friend to Davids Bridal just to try on dresses, since we were going to have small weddings. I fell in love with a heart gown. Looked for any variation of it everywhere. 5 months later I went serious shopping with my niece. Wasted 2 hours and the last dress was the original one. Heart shaped front out, hearts on sleaves, heart back out, hearts design on mid length train. The moms in there were oh and ahs at me more than their daughters and said thats the one. It was an $800 dress but since they just opened the box at this location and I needed no alterations, and had cash, I got it for $500. That was all I was willing to spend anyway. It looked something like this http://www2.davidsbridal.com/bridalgowns_detail.jsp?stid=358&prodgroup=10

My gown is from Impression Bridal and I LOVE it. It's white and has a cathedral train. It is a halter top which is HARD TO FIND! I don't care for strapless or sleeves so this was perfect!

It's a $700 dress but with shipping and everything I paid $612. At first they said $650 but I said I would take it if it was closer to $600.00 and she comes back and says "$612 is as low as we will go" I said ok. LOL

Hey i saved a few more $s in the end. Dont be afraid to bargin with them and knock that price down. Also off the racks can be a good bargin!

One of my bridesmaids went with me to Davids Bridal just so I could try dresses on and get an idea of what I liked. I ended up finding one that I loved, but decided to keep looking b/c it was the only place I'd been. They called me a week later to let me know that it was on sale and I went back in with my mom and all my bridesmaids, tried it on again and fell in love. I bought it that day, $450. It was champagne/light gold, strapless with beading on the top. The waist gathered to one side. I have pictures of it on another website, I can post the link if anyone wants to see that and other wedding pictures.

I'm making my wedding dress well wedding Kimono in a soft and silky red and my MOH found the same fabric for hers exept an a rich maroon/purple I really haven't gotten much chance to talk about this with my intended though, with HS and his family not knowing but I want to make him a kimono and hakama, though I might have to bribe him with letting him wear his boken or a sword.

I bought my wedding gown almost one year before my wedding. I fell in love with the dress the moment i tried it on, but my heart sank when i saw the $1100.00 price tag. However I decided to go with it anyhow because I wouldn't have been happy wearing something else. ( Besides all that, my fiance had set aside $3000.00 for me to spend on a dress and hadn't told me about it.) I love my dress because it is not a traditional gown. It is made by Mori Lee. It has red in it....well its hard for me to explain but i will try and post a link to the dress on the website and then i won't have to explain it. I love my dress, and wouldn't be happy wearing anything but this one! :D

The dress I chose is a mermaid style with tiny buttons all down the back. It is strapless. I knew exactly what I wanted and I went to 30 stores to find a dress everything is saw was the same. When I did find the dress I liked I called 84 stores it was $3800.00. I had heart failure.

A friend of mine told me about this Canadian On line site I emailed them and they were able to locate my dress. I just received it and I love it.

Not only did it cost me $1500.00 Canadian but I have no alterations because they made it according to my measurements. I also got it within 5 weeks of placing my order.

Their selection is to die for and the service is exceptional. Check it out I am so happy my friend sent me here. They even tell you how to choose a dress.

I have looked over the Bridal Chalet website and read over the whole site.

The site is very suspicious as the wedding dress pictures are all photos from some of the worlds top wedding dress designers, and no one can reduplicate the dresses because the designers themselves do not allow it.

Also, the site has a no rank from Google so the site is rather new and has no links coming in from any other sites. This poster also is the owner of the domain.

I would be very leery about buying from this site!

I just put the deposit down on my dress. I am so excited about it! I'm getting married in fourteen months...so it's kind of early. The bridal shop took the deposit so that if the dress is discontinued for whatever reason, they'll let us know and I can get in my measurements in then. If not, I'll get measured in October for the dress.

What I love about this dress is that looking at it on anyone else or on the hanger I hated it. But then I put it on....

WOW!!!!

Here's the link:

Mine will be ivory, not white. I have a set of pearls that my mother got from my father. It was the last gift he gave her before he died. I've worn them to every important event in my life; kind of my way of keeping my father there. My mother and I are VERY excited that they will go perfectly with this dress (the "puddles" as I call them are secured with little pearls and pink stones).

I searched forever for a dress. My mother and I spent months driving from Youngstown to Wheeling to Greensburg. I kept looking at these huge tulle and crystal gowns that she and the sales girls were picking out. I just kept saying to myself that they were too big and too busy. But they just kept giving me more. Finally, I decided I would go to one last shop then I was making a decision. On a dress form was this dress that was so totally different than anyone I had ever seen. So I tried it on and the search was over! It was simple and plain with just enough fullness and detail. I am going with it in the white and blush.

I found my dream dress an a designer of "haute couture" gowns, when I was on vacation last year. The price was $12,000 (yes, I put the correct amount of 0's!) Needless to say, I didn't buy it, but I did come back home with a few pictures and sketches, and I'm having a toronto designer make it for me, for a whole lot less! A lot less!!!!
Actually I like my dress better than the original, because it's a custom made dress that I got to pick every little detail.

My antique store find $300 and just perfect for a second wedding.

We were biding time before my son's hockey game and we went into a small antique shop in the middle of nowhere. I saw the dress, I wasn't even engaged but I KNEW it was the ONE. I didn't have time to try it on and DH told me that if it was meant to be, it would be there when I needed it and it would fit. I could not get the dress out of my head and so one year later (and still not engaged), I called the shop (which was over 5 hours away) and it was still there! The owner put it aside until I could get back to the shop. It didn't need any other alterations but for taking out some shoulder pads.

It's funny.... I've been telling myself for years that I wanted a poofy tule wedding gown. Now that it's coem time to actually decide on somethin I'm so lost. I know I want it long, with a train, and stark white. It has to be strappless, and I want a corsette back and a slimming front.
I'm going to start looking during the holiday season while others have that o their brain. I'll just know it when I see it!!!

Wow, I can't believe this thread started in 2004 and is still 'alive' lol

Maybe it could be some sort of record!!!

My dress is from David's Bridal. I found it the very first day we went shopping. It was a little over $800 and that included the headpiece, veil, and shoes.

This is the dress from their website:

My dress is from David's Bridal as well. I tried on 3 dresses before mine and when i put mine on I knew it was the one. The dress was $349 on sale but the veil was $179, but with the discount when you purchase items at the time of the dress purchase, I got the dress, veil, bra, and slip with taxes for $660.
