As most of you know, my mother had a full masectomy about a month before I got married, so this issue hit kind of close to home. By the way, my mother is doing well, although she is frustrated that she can't go back to work due to some swelling. Anyways, I don't pretend that these things have any type of effect on whether or not the bill will pass, but I'd rather try with the hope that they do...so please check it out:

Mastectomy Hospital Bill in Congress

If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important...please take the time and do it really quick!

If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the "drive-through mastectomy" where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still
groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still
attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on.

PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number.

This takes about 2 seconds. On behalf of all women, THANKS.

Kelli i really want to sign this petition for you but it's not letting me because i don't have a zip code.
Can i use someone eles?!

I have to agree this is soooo so important. My mom just has surgery to remove her galblater which is an out patient surgery (i know it's much different). But she had to stay 5 days more because of complications in her surgery. She was in so much pain and couldn't eat there is no way she would have been ok at home without the same pain medications and fluids they can give her in the hospital.
Women who have had masectomies have already gone through enough emotional pain and suffering. They shouldn't have to suffer with more pyhsical pain.

First off, I am glad to hear your mom is doing good after her surgery Kelli :D

I don't know what these people are thinking that you can just have part of your body removed like that and go straight home right after!

Anyway, I signed the petition and emailed it off to others.

Kelli,
I'm glad to hear that your momma is doing better. I've been wondering about her. I'm happy to sign this and pass it along to my friends. It can't help your mom but it might be able to help someone else.

Thank you for posting about this. I hadn't heard about this bill, and I'm glad it was brought to my attention. I signed it and then sent it out to every woman I know. My mom had breast cancer about 3 years and had a complete mastectomy as well. She was diagnosed right before Thanksgiving and had the mastectomy right before Christmas...so it was a tough holiday season for us...so I'm happy to do anything to help towards breast cancer awareness and to help women out who have/had breast cancer.
