So we're having another crazy winter here in NB. Last night saw I don't know how much snow dropped and this morning they were still saying we had a blizzard warning. The wind is crazy and causing lots of drifting snow, etc.
Here are some pics out my patio doors.
The snow is now taller then me and just yesterday was maybe waist level at this same spot.

That is unbelievable. We had a blizzard here in Indiana about a month ago. At least they said it was a blizzard. I don't remember how much snow was on the ground because I was dealing with our furnace dying in the middle of it all. Stay safe and here's hoping the snow is over!!

Thanks ladies!
FH was suppose to leave for work at 6:30 and well he couldn't so luckily he can log into work from home and still be considered working - his job makes it hard to take time off due to chats, etc.
My sisters school was closed and my work was closed til noon but I can't go in this afternoon as we are still snowed in. So I called and said I had to take the afternoon off - I doubt many are there.

LOL Thanks - maybe later tonight since he is officially working until 7.
I feel bad when we get so much snow because I am not allowed to shovel because of my heart condition.

I feel your pain because we got more too. Whatever fell is now blowing around and it's just miserable out there *argh* DH got stuck trying to get out of our driveway this morning. :whyme:

Are you out of any weather warnings yet? They are still saying that we are in a blizzard warning! It's still snowing here!

OMG. I can't even fathom.
I am so spoiled in the weather department.
How long does it take a mound like that to melt?!?

Wow! That is a lot of snow! We had close to 2 feet, but it all melted and since haven't had much at all.

It's snowing but not all that hard.
To be honest, I haven't been listening to the weather but I did happen to hear that NE is getting or going to be getting hit pretty bad. This normally means that we will get it and then it will move on to you :(
I am so sick of winter! We have little to no room to pile any more snow. The plow just passed and it looks like DH has to dig out the end of the driveway - yet again *grrrr*
Spring is coming soon right?

If that was here. I would have to find a way outside. Just to jump in it and make a huge Snow Angel. :)
Yep, I admit it. I'm 40 going on 4 LOL.

Oh I know it's terrible. I thought last year was the worst since I was a kid but I think this year tops it. We were affected last year badly by the flood in the spring and my office was closed for 2 days because the river was spilling onto roads.
It can take a fair bit of time to melt Gwen that is for sure. I am highly expecting more flooding again this year.
We live in a mini home park on a hill and since all the driveways are so close we are really running out of room to put the snow. Last we thought since the driveway wasn't that big that FH could just shovel but when the banks are higher then you it's kinda hard to shovel so this year we do have a small snowblower to make it a little easier but I am getting sick of the snow.
I think I should move some place warm!

I SO sympathize with you. A couple days ago we had 4" in one afternoon (yay . . . not!) and NOW on Thursday we're supposed to get ANOTHER 6" minimum.
And I was ready for winter to be over on Valentine's Day Weekend!!!!
*grrr*
Of course, because of our stupid Snow Shoveling Nazi neighbor (seriously, whoever it is calls the city on people when they don't shovel within 24 hours of the storm ending . . . .and they leave flyers in your door and mailboxes saying 'It's time to shovel! People like me use your sidewalk and depend on you to keep it clean and safe! with lots of obnoxiously cute little line drawings . . . ) that means that *I* get to shovel all this snow.
And I'm *just* today getting over a cold and on Thursday I go to get my first allergy shot and I'm not supposed to have any physical exertion for 24 hours after my shot!
*sigh* Stupid weather.
I hate winter. Except for Christmas and New Year's, there's nothing good about it. I can't wait until Fiance retires and we both move to San Diego.

My DH? He has a son and a daughter ... but nope, we haven't talked to them in the last few days. Why? Do you think they are buried?
We followed the flooding last year. It was awful!
Looks like we missed the storm that you were getting - may I say *phew*? The temps are supposed to rise tomorrow and Friday so I am hoping for some serious melting!
Whitewater - I would stick the same flyers back in their mail box along with an invitation requesting them to shovel your walkway if your shoveling doesn't coincide with their walking schedule. That's nuts! (or do they have a leg to stand on, with the city?)

Considering the cold you got over and stuff, I totally get your frustration... but as someone who does not have a car, I get his too. Almost no one in my area shovels their sidewalks, unless they are municipal or a business so when I walk to the university it means that it takes twice as long through snow on average of foot deep. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It can be absolutely miserable. In our town we have ordinances about it, but since the culture is so car centric, it's completely unenforced. It's either trudge through the snow and through everyone's property or walk in the road, which has no shoulder this time of year since that's where the snow is plowed too. I just bear it, but if I were significantly older (I'm 22) I'd probably get pretty mad. I don't get why people plow the rest of their driveways and neglect the sidewalks, given the smaller size and the fact that I'm usually following a well worn track of foot prints - it's not just me!

Well, the Snow Shoveling Nazi has the law behind him, her or it: in my city, it's the law that walks have to be shoveled within 24 hours of the snow storm being over.
HOWEVER, the law also realize that sometimes life happens and you can't get it done right away. In reality, they don't ticket or send you a notice *unless* some busybody complains.
In our defense, we've been here almost a year now (we closed on June 9th, and I was there that day doing the cleaning, preparing to do the work on the house before we moved in) and I haven't seen ANYBODY use the sidewalks in front of my house aside from a nice woman who walks her brown lab -- and who doesn't mind the snow. I know this because she's told me so, so she can't be the Snow Shoveling Nazi. And anyway, I've only seen her twice. In a year. And they have their house for sale now, anyway.
This state is car-centric too, mostly because we haven't got a very good public transportation system and the only people who use it regularly are the poor and the wierd, so there's this big huge perception that good, upstanding citizens drive cars. People here would rather walk than take the bus. True.
But there were weeks this winter when the only footprints in the front of our house were made by our mailman -- and he doesn't use the sidewalk (curse him, he steps in my flowers!)!!!
I don't mind shoveling, but i DO mind being told my business by some mysterious interfering busy-body, who doesn't know me at all. It's not like we don't shovel . . . we do! We just don't hop to and do it *immediately* after the snow.
Like in this case. I can guarentee you that tomorrow's snow probably won't be shoveled by us until Saturday. We don't think it's a big deal to wait a day. The city doesn't think so either. But The SSN will probably be dropping flyers.
*rolls eyes* If the city and the people who made the law are ok with it, the SSN should just chill. It's not like we *never* shovel. We do -- just not at 3am when the snow stops!
Whitewater (we're not the only ones on our block who wait, either! After some storms, we're the FIRST people shoveling . . . well, after the wierd woman across the street, who I swear hires somebody to come shovel the second after the last flake falls, no matter what, her steps and walk always *gleam* within hours of the snow stopping)

Oh sorry I knew you had mentioned before that he had kids that lived here and for some reason I was thinking it was 2 sons....I just thought maybe you had been talking to them and they were telling you about the blizzard.
So in total we got 48cms on Monday...we are due for rain on Thursday and Friday followed by another 20cms of snow on Sunday supposedly....just lovely!!!!!! LOL

Buffalo proper (not where I live but close to me) has a car ownership rate of 33%, so there it's a big more significant of an issue. But the city doesn't plow side streets so they have problems. The town that I am in people also assume that the "upstanding citizens" drive cars, but that takes a longer explanation of the tensions between the residents of the city and the residents of the suburbs and exurbs. With that being said, even in the winter you see bikers and walkers because among the university students, there are enough 1) poor, 2) hippies or 3) both poor and hippies who do choose not drive or cannot afford cars. Our public transport is also pretty crummy.
Despite the volume of non-drivers, it's not like the people around me are like you who will eventually do it without the flyering 24.5 hours after the snowfall (which is excessive and I agree with you on that)... they just don't shovel in the winter. Consequently you can get very deep snow when it's not in the thaws (right now it's like 40 degrees so all the snow is gone). It irritates the heck out of me, and my frustration is at the situation, not at you personally.

Thankfully the city finally did some snow removal downtown and tidied up the sidewalks and whatnot but there is still a lot of snow.
I am going to try and get some more pictures this weekend....I dont' remember snow like this since I was a kid.

I have been checking the recent flickr pics, which are tagged Fredericton. Whoa!
After our most recent storm, DH was out shoveling. He had paused to take a break and was leaning on his shovel when along came a private snow contractor. He was clearing other driveways on our street and I guess he felt sorry for DH because he waved him out of our driveway and then he drove through and cleared the snow!!! :soppy::soppy::soppy::soppy: He was our snow angel!
We have decided - no more driveway shoveling for us; next year we will hire a snow removal company. Guess which company we are going to be hiring next year? LOL

Oh that was so nice of the guy to stop and plow you out! Yeah last winter FH shovelled because we didn't think we needed a snowblower since the driveway is only wide enough for 2 cars and long enough for 1 but because of how much we got we got a snowblower this year but if we get any more without some melting the snowblower may not be enough...I swear our snowbanks are probably 6.5-7ft tall at the end of the driveway...

I hear ya. We have a semi circular driveway and with the snowbanks so high, it was hard to see to get out the driveway.
We would consider buying a snowblower but they are soooooooo expensive, we don't have a garage to store it in and our shed is in the furthest/opposite corner of the backyard. :( It would make it kind of hard to get it in and out.

We got one from our neighbor - she's an older lady, bought one at the end of season for her and another lady that lived with her, the other lady passed away from cancer back in the summer and the neighbor still living there has back issues and can't do stuff like that....so we ended up getting a brand new blower that had never been used for $500 which is what she paid at the end of the season.
Our shed is on the opposite side of our property too but FH just blows a path across the lawn....lol

That is what we would have to do too  My Mom has a little one to give us which will handle the walkways & light snow ... I just have to get to her place (5 hours away) to pick it up. Since DH is the one that tackles most of it (I shovel the deck and the front landing), he's also the one stuck hiring the "snow angels".
