View Full Version : Seeking Inexpensive bridesmaids dresses
I need help. I am looking for nice ~ but they don't have to be over-the-top ~ bridesmaids dresses in pink, lavender, or silver (or lilac). I have 5 BMs and want to give them a dress at $50 or less. I've looked at Target.com, JCP.com, even K-mart. No luck. Anyone know of a great website that has good deals?? The $39.99 "deals" on David's Bridal are in limited sizes and limited colors and I have one girl that's a size 4 and another that's probably a size 20 and everyone else is in-between. Geez, this is hard. I hate to ask people to pay money and I can't really afford to pay for their dresses. :ooh:

I put a mix of regular and plus size on there. Some of them are more then your $50 but still not badly priced. Do you want them all the exact same or different? Long or short?

Sears has all kinds of dresses for under $50 - unfortunately most appear to be black, red or blue.
Could you go with black bridesmaid dresses and then they could wear them again?

All those are good options. I know you said that you don't want to ask your party to spend money, but have you asked them how much they would feel comfortable spending??

I ordered my silver dress for my sister's wedding from http://www.discountdressup.com/discount-formal-evening-dress-under-70.html
It was great quality. The sizes are true to what the size chart says. If you are going to have the girls buy dresses online have them measured at a bridal shop so you can make sure they get the right size. A lot of the places online will not allow you to return dresses even if they are the wrong size. Good luck!

Another option too, I don't know how set you are on dresses, but you could find matching top and a matching skirt and put a sash around the center where the two meet to make it look like a dress.

The only problem with the site above is that the shipping is a little high if you want to order only one dress from them. My suggestion is that you order the dresses altogether if you want to order from this site. Also these dresses are knockoffs of designer dresses.

I didn't know you had to pay for the MOH's dress ...my mom said she was going to pay for it since my MOH is my sister...I thought that the bridal party took care of their expenses unless the bride and groom offered.
Oh My! I am overwhelmed at all the help!! THANK YOU ALLLLLL SOOOO MUCH!! I am going to start going through each post, one-by-one, and look for different dresses. Yay!! I was really worried about not being able to find anything ~ and I want something "nice" since the guys are all wearing tailed tuxedos and the wedding is going to be nice.
Also, THEY are paying for their dresses and I am wanting to keep it inexpensive just as a courtesy. As for the MOH, I've never heard that I am supposed to pay for her dress??? That is news to me. I have never been a MOH however so I wouldn't know.
Well.. I went through all the sites... my main issue is that I have a size 4, size 6/8, size 16, size 18, and then probably size 20/22 bridesmaid. Unfortunately, it is hard to outfit them all from the same website/dress. I want them to all wear the exact same dress/color (except possibly the MOH). I also want the dresses to be about $50 or less - no more than $60 MAX. No small feat. I just want a miracle. HA

Unfortunately having such a wide variety of sizes of girls it may be impossible to find the exact dress to outfit all girls in the same dress. Any chance you'd let them pick a dress in a specific color? That way each girl can wear a dress that they feel comfortable in? I mean not all styles work for all sizes, etc. Especially for that price range because I see on sites all the time that plus size stuff is usually more then regular size.
Have you talked to your girls to see what they'd be comfortable in? Honestly I would be happy spending more then $50 on a dress especially if it was something that I looked great in and felt comfortable in.
Not saying that its impossible but I think it will definately be difficult. Good luck!

With your girls being all over the place I suggest a simple strapless A-line dress or an A-line dress with small spaghetti straps. I bought my bridesmaid who wears a size 18 in David's Bridal this dress.
http://www.ebridalsuperstore.com/Dresses/bridesmaidsdresses/665ALE.asp
The dresses on this website are ordered from the designers. You get a receipt from the owner of the website and the designer of the dress that you ordered from. The shipping is extremely reasonable. I paid $15 for shipping two dresses. I agree with ff7g. I'd be willing to pay more for a dress I'd be willing to wear again. You'd be better off talking to your girls to find out what they would be willing to spend on a dress, and then go from there. It'd be better for you to pick a designer and let the girls pick the dresses they like in the color you dictate. Very rarely are all of the bridesmaids happy with the dress when you pick a single style.
Here's the article saying that the bridesmaids are supposed to buy their own attire.
http://wedding.*******.com/bridesmaids-mother-of-the-bride/bridesmaids/articles/bridesmaids-duties-in-detail.aspx
It's ok for your Mom to pay for the MOH's attire if she has volunteered to do so. I just wanted to emphasize that it is not required for the bride to pay for the bridesmaids' attire. I can't find the article on Emily Post's site that says you are supposed to pay for the MOH's attire. Anyway, talk to your girls. It's part of their duty as a bridesmaid to help you make choices like this.

I think you're right - I did a google search on wedding etiquette, and every article on all the websites agreed.
This is from the OneWed main site:
The maid of honor and bridesmaids
• You pay for your own gown and accessories.
• You pay for your own travel and hotel expenses.
• You will probably have some expenses for the bridal shower.
• You will probably buy or contribute to gifts for the bride and for the couple.

OMG I don't feel so bad now as I'm not the only one that is finding it hard to find bridesmaid dresses that aren't expensive. I can't afford to pay for them either and I have my heart set on it being a ball gown shape. I have been looking at quineanera dresses as they are the type of dress that i wasnt my bridesmaids to wear, but they are $250 and up. I ran across a couple of sites that had wonderful prices, the too good to be true and when I searched for reviews on google I found the web site to be just that... too good to be true. I'm so frustrated that I'm considering just having the maid of honor and no bridesmaids. The dresses that I want are just too expensive :ooh: This is my second wedding and my fh's first. When I look at my first wedding day, it was nice but there are some things I would have changed. So this time around I rather do without then not have what I really want.

Thank you for posting this one. I am liking a few on there that is not too expensive. Well the ball gown ones that I really favor are still over $200, I still located at least one that resemble a ball gown, just not as full. It's definitely doable style and price wise. :)

I bought my daughter's on Amazon and it was a 50's style prom gown for 49.99 plus shipping and received it that week with regular shipping. It even came with a shawl and straps that you could attach as well. They had so many different colors that maybe you can find something there. Good Luck !
Well, we have a solution!! We RENTED beautiful, formal, satin, pink ballgowns for $65 each!! They are GORGEOUS!! The girls have between now and September to pay for the rental and get fitted ~ fittings are free! There is a local formal shop that carries bridesmaids dresses in sizes 0 to 30, in six different colors, for rental only!! When you rent the dresses, you rent EVERY dress (all sizes) in YOUR color for the ENTIRE weekend ~ in case a girl gets fitted for one size and a month later it doesn't work, they can hurry-up and get her another size in your color. What a deal!! Just wanted to tell you ~ the bridesmaids are very happy about the price and the idea that they can pay when they want ~ in payments or all at once and they can go get fitted without me (if they are maybe embarrased of their size). They have all took the time and effort to tell me it was a great idea ~ and wait until they all see the dresses ~ they will love them!! I think they are Alfred Angelo but I won't swear it. Maybe some of you have local formal shops that do the same???
