I'm so excited about going to the Renaissance Festival and Dragon*Con this year. This is our second year to go to Dragon*Con. I'll be dressing up as Silk Spectre from Watchmen and hubby will go as Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen. Hubby is really happy that I'm going as her, wonder why...:) I think I'll be a little self-conscious at first, but once I see other people with less clothes on, I'll feel right at home, lol! What festivals/events do you go to?
I have always wanted to go to the Renaissance Festival, but every year when it rolls around it seems like it's not in the budget. I'm sure if we go once we'll be hooked. For the last several years we have gone to the Greek Fest, International Festival, and Dickens on the Strand. We make sure to go to these every year. If we see random festivals going on that we're interested in we try to make it to those too. We love festivals!

Corvettes at Carlisle in Carlisle PA the end of August 85 acres of Corvettes. OK I'm a girl who loves powerful engines. I was bad today I dusted a little ricer cause I had my window down and heard him tell his friend that I was a old lady and I would know how to drive my vette. Left him in the dust crying. That will teach him.

We go to the State Fair every year (believe me, it's a festival!!) and I worked at the MN Renaissance Festival for 10 years before it finally got to be too much.
We also go to a smaller renaissance festival up north commonly called Twig (named after the town it's in) but it's official name is Olde Worlde Renaissance Faire. It's a lot smaller than the MN RenFest but the people who own it are worth working for, the quality of the merchants and entertainment is higher (if I do say so myself! LOL! We participate with our living history group) and we have a lot more fun. Twig doesn't allow permanent structures (they can't, they lease the land from a cattle and buffalo rancher and they're only there one weekend!) so everybody including the vendors uses historically appropriate tents and pavilions and so on -- that really gives it a nice feel.
Let's see. Oh, yes. Fiance and I attend CONvergence every year, which is a convention that focuses on science, science fiction and fantasy in all genres (hence the pun on the convention's name). Everything from literature to anime to spaceship model building, and live animals can be found there, and our panel discussions range from Batman's psychological profile to GLBT potrayals in current sci-fi to the science of magic to history, philosophy and literary criticism. We also have panels on mythology and physics and politics as they relate to sci-fi, all kinds of things. There's an annual batleth tournament that raises money for charity and a costume Masquerade with prizes, there's a huge dealer's room that sells everything from leather mugs to comics and rare books to tee-shirts, jewelry and figurines . . .I could go on and on. We have a free coffee house for our attendees, right in one of the hotel suites (mochas, lattes, espresso, coffee, hot chocolate, steamed milk and hot teas) and a whole floor for gamers and games, whether they be board games or computer games.
We've been going to this convention since it began :) So I'm a little excited! It happens on the weekend closest to July 4th, every year.
We also go to Roller Derby bouts, though we're not sports fans. There's something different about Rollery Derby!

We go to Ribfest every summer, it's ribs of course and music all weekend long. This year so far they have the band Heart booked! In the past we have seen Blondie, Joan Jett, Ted Nuggent, BOC, Lynard Skynard, and a bunch I can't think of at this moment.
We have a lot of town events during the summer, which is basically just food vendors/crafts that sort of stuff. It's always nice to get out and just look around. :)

We in WI have plenty of "fests". Atleast in the city I live in...
Of course we have CHEESEFEST, and a LOBSTERFEST, and I have not missed on OKTOBERFEST.
There are so many silly "fests" around here. But just a good reason for me to eat naughty food :)

*sigh* There isn't anything ever worth going to around here. It's one of the many things I miss about Michigan. :(
I know they do stuff up at Silver Dollar City in Branson sometimes, but I've never been up there for one. It seems like it's always on the weekend and, well, I work weekends.

I was born and raised in St. Joseph, which is in the bottom left corner of the state. ;)
There were always soooo many festivals there on the beach. It was so much fun!

I have been to the Ren fest a few times in the past, but not really that into it anymore.
DH and wanted to go to Dragon Con last year (a bunch of ppl from the shows we like were gonna be there) but we didn't get to go. Now since our fav show was canceled (Stargate SG-1 & Atlantis) I doubt we'd have any care to go anymore.

Brandi, Dragon*Con is so much fun! Seeing peoples' amazing costumes and talking to the actors or getting their autographs, it's great! Here's the link: http://www.dragoncon.org/ (http://www.dragoncon.org/)

We always go to State Fair which is a blast, thats about it. Another popular one around here is Summerfest, which is nothing but music. I never really got into it much.

Yeah, we have never been, but know what all it is about :)
We probably wouldn't be able to spend the money this year though.

We'll go to Youma con this yr.. And maaaaaaaaaybe anime north (but don't get your hopes up, Dani >.< )...
Gunna go to the Henry Ford tomorrow because they are letting people in for free for Presidents Day. I'm all about free.
My bro and his ex used to do the renaissance fairs - they sound interesting!
Matt and I have made it a point to go to the state fair every year. We went our first summer together, and have been going ever since. We always try to take Sierra, and we always try to get our pictures taken in front of the big California bear in front of Cal Expo (where the fair is every year). It's our little tradition

Wisconsin has one of the best State Fair's I have ever been to! Do they still have the huge cream puff tent? I thought I had died and gone to heaven the year I went!! Nothing better than real whipped cream in a cream puff!

Yeah - its in the Products Pavillion with all kinds of good homemade Wisconsin food! :) Of course, with the cream puffs is the massive lines for one! That is why everyone goes to the fair up here, solely for the cream puffs!

We go to the CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL in Santa Cruz every year. For $20, you can get 20 chocolate tastings, and a lot of the vendors will slip you free samples! YUM YUM CHOCOLATE. :eat:
I go to the Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown every year too! I go to the Takoyaki booth to have tasy octopus treats. I met DH around the same time as the Cherry Blossom Festival, and takoyaki was one of the foods I associate with our relationship.
We also go to local anime cons like Fanime (we staff at the latter), and we try to travel to one convention in Southern California, usually San Diego Comic Con.
